The Mazda CX-7 is a compact crossover SUV with seating for five. Introduced for 2007, it was a refinement on the more utilitarian Tribute and like most newer Mazdas, it has an athletic demeanor. The CX-7 also incorporates most of the elements that continue to make crossovers so popular, including carlike handling, available all-wheel drive and a useful amount of cargo capacity.

Although the CX-7 is fun to drive as crossovers go, its base four-cylinder engine is memorable for its sluggish acceleration and subpar fuel economy. The available turbocharged four-cylinder solves the performance problem, but its fuel economy is even worse. With the efficient CX-5 waiting in the wings, the CX-7 was phased out after the 2012 model year.

  We love the car for all its positives above. Cons: front pillar blind spots and so-so fuel economy. With current fuel prices however, no big deal.

  I was looking to buy a new vehicle and nothing was a good fit. That held true until Mazda released the CX-7. It is a nice balance of looks, performance and features for the price. Great value.

  I love the looks of the CX7, but thats about it. I get about 12 mpg in town and 16 on the highway. I have complained about this, and they told me when I hit 10k I would get better mpg then they told me after 12k now its after 15k. It takes premium fuel which adds up fast! It has a very rough ride, does not have comfortable seats for long ride, does not handle that well in snow, mine is AWD, and I have a problem with the doors locking and unlocking by themselves and the horn randomly honking. I have a lot of surface rust already, even though I wash it regularly. This has been one of those live and learn experiences.

  Engine Failure - 2008 Mazda CX-7

  We bought a 2008 CX 7 with 62,000 miles on it in April 2012 they replaced the vvt adjuster and chain at that point. It is now March 2013 and 14,000 miles later and the vvt is out again, the turbo is out and after a $3000 quote to repair it my dealer calls back and says "well we made the repairs to your car but it is going to need an engine". That is supposed to cost $6,000. No helpis being brought from Mazda the issue is being pushed to higher up in the world of Mazda. Needless to say Mazda has not impressed me. They are telling me this is caused by "sludge". But in the next breath my dealer tells me "sludge" is normal in this engine. I wonder how this will play out.

  Grand Touring AWD w/Tech package. I just love this car. This is my first Mazda and I am pleasantly surprised. Navigation is easy to use. I have an 06 Cadillac STS with Navigation and I feel I need the manual for every thing I do. This car is a winner!!

  This was an awesome car. I would really recommend this car to families of 4 only. Back seat space isnt the best. But, it is a car with speed and if you are looking for a vehicle with good room, sexy design, and performance and last but not least, a MAZDA, then you will be in complete heaven!

  Ive had my 2010 Mazda CX-7 AWD Touring for about two weeks now and I adore it. I test drove just about every crossover/SUV and just kept coming back to this one due to the sleek styling and the fun handling. Nothing else in this price range compares to it. I love this car!

  Im at a loss as to why a new car leaks oil on my driveway, why the door panels always look awful, why there is no sound insulation in the wheel wells, and why I can only get $19000 for it 9 months later. Sorry Mazda, You will never sell me another car!

  Verdict Still Out - 2007 Mazda CX-7

  Compared the Ford Edge, FX35, decided to go with an unknown being this is my first Mazda. Had for 10 months and 12,000 miles. Like the seats, interior, brakes, tranny, navi and sound system. Just the right size too. But still cant get used to the 4 cyl turbo and lag. Engine is very noisy when cold. Really miss a silky smooth V6 and this aint it. Mileage avg only 20. Lots of corners cut on int & ext plastic. No trip computer - surprised for a GT. You call that carpet on the inside, looks more like spray on. Overall pleased and would recommend.
