Model Overview:

The Mazda CX-7 is a compact crossover SUV with seating for five. Introduced for 2007, it was a refinement on the more utilitarian Tribute and like most newer Mazdas, it has an athletic demeanor. The CX-7 also incorporates most of the elements that continue to make crossovers so popular, including carlike handling, available all-wheel drive and a useful amount of cargo capacity.

Although the CX-7 is fun to drive as crossovers go, its base four-cylinder engine is memorable for its sluggish acceleration and subpar fuel economy. The available turbocharged four-cylinder solves the performance problem, but its fuel economy is even worse. With the efficient CX-5 waiting in the wings, the CX-7 was phased out after the 2012 model year.

  • Couldnt stand it! - 2010 Mazda CX-7

The CX7 is a beautiful vehicle and thats what drew me in, but man do I regret buying it! This is the car that actually made me hate driving. I bought my CX7 new in 2010 when I had to retire my 2000 Cougar, which I had had for 10 years. I thought the CX7 would be a good fit for me since it kind of seemed like a bigger version of the Cougar! It took about 6 months for me to totally hate the CX7, but I had to keep it for 2 years before finally being able to afford trading it.

  • Awesome! - 2007 Mazda CX-7

This is a great SUV for everyone who is bored with the boxy, boring SUVs from Honda and Toyota. Its quick, has better handling than my Accord, and it turns heads everywhere I go. When I fill it up with gas, I have people staring and asking me what it is. All the style and refinement of a car that costs thousands more.

  • A question of Mileage - 2008 Mazda CX-7

Bought my cx 7 in March and I am happy with my purchase. The exterior and interior are wonderful and innovative. However, the gas mileage is atrocious. Turbo lag takes away from the performance, and the car has a very slow pick up without the turbo kicking in. Mazda has yet to prove its reliability in the crowded Japanese market. They offer a six cd changer but no ipod jack?

  • A no brainer! - 2010 Mazda CX-7

Had driven a Mazda 3 hatch for 2 years. Loved the ride, needed more room. Cx-7 was the perfect fit. Best looking in its class, fun to drive, beautiful interior, peppy engine, decent gas mileage etc. Etc. Perfect car for a Young family. You get it all. The most important things to me were looks, fun ride, gas mileage and storage room and this car has it all! You wont be disappointed!

  • Like the CX-9! - 2007 Mazda CX-7

Got the car at the beginning of the year, after trading in my 2004 Mazda 6 wagon - I loved that car! The CX-9 is great! Fun to drive, great interior - for the front occupants. I really like the lines and performance.

  • Best Value - 2007 Mazda CX-7

For the price you really cant get a better car. It drives like a 3 series. Has everything but nav, you get everything pretty much standard even on base trim. You cannot even compare the CR-V to this car, but if you are keeping a car 10+ years maybe the honda is the better choice. Only complaint I have is that its now on its 7th recall, but Mazda has been great and always puts me in a CX-7 loaner.

  • Having fun with my CX-7 - 2007 Mazda CX-7

After almost a year with this SUV, Ive been very pleased. No major problems only a few recalls and TSBs to improve drivability. I love the unique styling through out. Maybe gets mistaken for a Lexus RX. Gas mileage is not great, I average around 19 in town and 22 on the road cruising around 75 mph. The interior styling is good but the need to improve the cheap looking plastics.

  • Great Handling. Poor gas mileage. - 2010 Mazda CX-7

The car looks OK from the exterior. The interior, solid handling and options sold me. Car is loaded with great options (back up camera, bluetooth, satellite radio, 6-CD changer, nice leather, AWD, steering wheel mounted controls) all for just under 30K. Better handling and less $$ than the Acura RDX which I also considered. I live in a relatively hilly area and so far I am averaging less than 16 MPG in city driving after my first 3 tanks of gas. I hope this improves as the car breaks in.

  • Bought used, couldnt be happier - 2007 Mazda CX-7
    By -

Just bought my 2007 CX-7 Touring AWD used from Flemington Mazda in NJ. I was able to find this amazing car with almost no wear/tear in like new condition with only 40,000 miles. The car immediately impressed me with its braking performance and minimal body roll, this SUV drives more like a sports car than a truck. The leather interior is stunning, great easy maintenance for the kids. Plenty of space for our 3 year old and newborn in the backseat, cargo room is perfect. I almost got a Ford Edge, but the less than adequate braking power was concerning, but the Ford was definitely a smoother ride. All in all, this is a great car for a young family and dad like me who loves the sporty drive!
