Model Overview:

The Mazda CX-7 is a compact crossover SUV with seating for five. Introduced for 2007, it was a refinement on the more utilitarian Tribute and like most newer Mazdas, it has an athletic demeanor. The CX-7 also incorporates most of the elements that continue to make crossovers so popular, including carlike handling, available all-wheel drive and a useful amount of cargo capacity.

Although the CX-7 is fun to drive as crossovers go, its base four-cylinder engine is memorable for its sluggish acceleration and subpar fuel economy. The available turbocharged four-cylinder solves the performance problem, but its fuel economy is even worse. With the efficient CX-5 waiting in the wings, the CX-7 was phased out after the 2012 model year.

Purchased brand new by my wife (46 years old). 50 thousand miles. list of repairs ;3 batteries not covered, four sets of tires first set lasted 8000 miles, 2 different wheel bearings first one covered second one was 460.00, sub freezing weather will not disengage from park. Now the big one, labor day weekend motor blew on busy 2 lane country road my wife and son were almost killed trying to steer to the side of the road. Timing chain broke damaging the head 3200 dollars for repair. MAZDA NOT COVERING. They built a TURD and are not standing behind their product. The CX-7 is a beautiful and enticing car, especially with all the zoom zoom hipe by Mazda. We have owned the car for over 5 years and have had a series of problems each year. Recently they sent a letter indicating the Air Conditioning compressor might freeze up and need to be replaced. They extended the coverage to 5 years. We had no issue of this failure but delt with tons of other issues. Today the car stopped and left me stranded. The compressor did freeze and the result also ripped out the serpintine belt. I am done with this car and dealing with Mazda, as they said too bad your out of warranty. They knew this was defective and put us in a dangerous position. Shame on MAZDA. DONT BUY 1.

  • Never again-Mazda worst company ever - 2007 Mazda CX-7

Bought the CX7 used at 36k miles, had a car fax run with no previous damage. Now it has 54k miles and is sitting in the driveway because the engine AND turbo are shot. Although I have every maintenance record possible, warranty wont cover it because they claim it was not maintained but I have EVERY record! Car is only worth maybe $12k now and the damage is $9K. It has been inoperable for over 6 months and will stay that way as I have had to hire an attorney. Mazda North American you have made a terrible car. Stop screwing over consumers and deal with this recurring issue. Do not buy this car. Im warning each and every person reading this.

  • Bad idea just saying - 2010 Mazda CX-7

I bought one that has 80,000 sounds great right. Nope 6 months after having it turbo charger went out. Cost a pretty penny. Then because i drove on it to far the whole engine needed replaced. After 3 months in the shop i finally got my car back. Now when i drive the wheel alignment? sounds annoying. And makes werid jurk pulls while accelerating. I love this car but the problems that it comes with is disappointing. Wish you any luck with this car.

  • Mazda Builds CRAP!!!!!! Buyer Beware - 2008 Mazda CX-7

Mazdas design engineers have the heads in a very dark hole. The turbo charger they put in the vehicle does not lubricate itself and fails quickly. At 70K the timing belt has stretched and failed causing a complete rebuild of the engine (BTW, Mazda wont cover any of that, wait until you get to deal with their warranty people). Mazda has design a vehicle that is very noisy inside, bad visibility from anywhere inside the car, terrible air-conditioning, the car rides like a stage coach, and worst of all Mazda does not back its warranties and hides from its responsibilities concerning its products....buyer beware

  • Beloved CX-7 Went Up In Flames - 2007 Mazda CX-7

I loved my Mazda from day one. In July 2007, I leased my CX-7. In July 2010, because I loved it so much, I financed the rest and kept it. I have proof of all my oil changes and maintenance to the vehicle. I paid it off nearly one year early with some of my retirement savings so I could enjoy not having a monthly payment for the first time in my life. I also put brand new tires on before the winter season and another 3k to replace the cracked transfer case, leaking oil cooler and loose ball joint (as recommended by Mazda).

  • Quite possibly the worst car I have ever owned - 2007 Mazda CX-7

The title says it all. While its roomy, comfortable, and somewhat sporty (which is what prompted me to purchase it in the first place), that cant make up for the absolute nightmare that the car has been to own. First of all, the mileage is abysmal, and youre going to have to multiply that by the fact that you need premium gas to run this thing, as its a 4-cylinder turbo. The absolute most damning thing is the reliability. There is none. I have poured so much money into this car, I could have bought another one by now. The timing chain will wear on you. Its a known issue. Its supposed to last the life of the vehicle, but Mazda dun goofed and now its the #1 repair on this vehicle (according to my mechanic, whose kids are now able to attend an Ivy league university, courtesy of incompetent Mazda engineers and clueless marks like myself). Every other month theres a problem with it... and I have NOT been ignoring the maintenance schedule. Also be aware there are several recalls currently on this vehicle (including in the "may cause serious injury or death" category), but of course the parts are on backorder and theres nothing they can do at the moment. Im not even going to try and sell it, as this is a fate I wouldnt wish on my worst enemy. If you happen to be driving through the breathtaking vistas of the Grand Canyon, and you see a guy set fire to a burgundy Mazda CX-7 and push it in, youve found me.

  • Crappy Vehicle...dont buy one - 2007 Mazda CX-7
    By -

This has been the worst vehicle I have ever owned. I tell everyone to stay away from it. Poor Quality Interior, lots of mechanical problems, terrible gas mileage. The dealership I have been using has no competent technicians - parts have fallen off after servicing. Will be going Honda or Toyota next time.
