Model Overview:

The Mazda CX-7 is a compact crossover SUV with seating for five. Introduced for 2007, it was a refinement on the more utilitarian Tribute and like most newer Mazdas, it has an athletic demeanor. The CX-7 also incorporates most of the elements that continue to make crossovers so popular, including carlike handling, available all-wheel drive and a useful amount of cargo capacity.

Although the CX-7 is fun to drive as crossovers go, its base four-cylinder engine is memorable for its sluggish acceleration and subpar fuel economy. The available turbocharged four-cylinder solves the performance problem, but its fuel economy is even worse. With the efficient CX-5 waiting in the wings, the CX-7 was phased out after the 2012 model year.

  • Big Mistake - 2012 Mazda CX-7

Wish we never bought this vehicle. Very disappointed in the "tinnyness" of the car. Light, noisy (especially in the rain) and uncomfortable to drive for someone over 6. Very poor visibility with bulky headrests and smaller windows. Dash trim fit poor. Poor acceleration with any weight on board. My recommendation is to drive it for a day (wish we did) before purchase. I indicated good reliability, but too early to tell (2500mi). After driving VW for 20 yrs, thought we try something different. Oops.

  • Best vehicle ever - 2007 Mazda CX-7

Eight months later, Im still looking for reasons to run to the store. My black CX-7 still turns heads even with all the new SUVs that have recently come out. It is like driving my Saab convertible (that I sold to buy this) except with a top on it and comes with lots of room. Im older but still enjoy the occasional "pedal to the metal" because of its extremely quick response and incredible passing gear.

  • Mazda is not helping!! - 2007 Mazda CX-7

Ive purchased my 07 mazda new, the last few months Ive notice a noise coming from my car, my car was sounding loud, had it looked at and more than one person said they didnt hear anything,I have only 59,000 miles on my car. but I knew something was wrong. now come to find out its the VVT after it was inspected by Mazda dealers they also said my bad VVT has caused the timing chain to stretch, and I shouldnt be driving my car. BUT get this theyre not going to fix it!! Not until I produce ALL my oil change receipt. Thats almost five years. I dont get it if they know the parts bad, then they should fix it. Plus what about the timing belt? I dont know what to do!!

  • Check Engine Light Problem - NO FIX - 2007 Mazda CX-7
    By -

I purchased this lemon a little over two years ago and dont drive it much. It only has 8500 miles and will be going into the shop for the FOURTH time for a check engine light problem that seems to be impossible to fix. If you enjoy visiting your dealership every 2000mi, this is the vehicle for you. Run, dont walk, away from your Mazda dealer.

  • Great CUV - 2007 Mazda CX-7
    By -

As lots of others here, I drove lots of other CUVs. I traded in my Audi A4 Quattro. I was very worried about losing performance and handling of the A4, but with the CX its all here! It still blows me away when I hit it off the line. Its so fast for this size of vehicle. The gas does suffer while doing quick starts, but to me its worth the performance! The other CUVs in its class were boring and felt numb. This is a CUV for people who love to drive!

  • Great family car with sporty look! - 2010 Mazda CX-7
    By -

I loved driving the car for long and short distance rides with my wife and 15 month old son. The big light truck tires are exactly what you need on Michigan roads with tons of potholes. The car is quite heavy, but still handling was great in all whether conditions. I was driving on wet streets, in ice and snow (having snow tires) and always felt a bit ahead of the other guys, because the car is very stable.

  • We have really enjoyed this car - 2007 Mazda CX-7

We leased our CX-7 in Mar. of 07 when the model was brand new. We have loved this car. We are spoiled with the sunroof, back-up camera, navigation and space. Our budget is less now, so we will have to give up some of these conveniences in our next car. I agree about the rough ride. Tires wear out very quickly and the ride gets rough and noisy when the tires begin to wear out. We have had a TERRIBLE time with the AC. Went out in Mar. 09, then 3 days after the warranty expired in Mar. 10, it went out again! Hassled with the dealer; they initially refused to cover it and charged us $100 to diagnose it. They ended up installing a new unit and refunded the $100. No other mechanic prob.

  • First Mazda Owned - 2007 Mazda CX-7

We traded a Mitsubishi Endeavor for this CX-7 which was a downsizing for us. Gas mileage about the same so far. Dealer suggested regular unleaded gas, but have been afraid to try that yet. Changes gears quite frequently driving in the mountains like we do. Overall satisfied so far.

  • Surprisingly Nice - 2007 Mazda CX-7
    By -

Had a Toyota RAV4 and hated it. Went to Mazda just looking around and the CX-7 caught my eye. Test drove it and I was hooked instantly. Doesnt feel like an SUV when driving it (a great thing I might add). I was sick of feeling like some soccer mom stuck in a "practical vehicle." This actually feels more like a sports car than an SUV.
