Overview & Reviews
For 2000, Subaru introduces the new Impreza 2.5 RS Sedan, a cross between an aggressive driver's car and a sedan. More standard equipment comes on the 2.5 Coupe and Sedan while the L model remains unchanged. The Outback Sport receives some exterior design changes. All Impreza models now come with 24-hour roadside assistance.
- Pros: All-wheel drive, scrappy personality, bulletproof reliability record, fun to drive.
- Tight rear seat, no ABS option for L models, a bit pricey.

Very Reliable Subaru - 2000 Subaru Impreza
By Big M - July 25 - 4:53 amI bought my Subaru after test driving it in the snow and loving the way it handled. I currently have 150k on the car and it runs perfect. I will buy another Subaru again based on this experience.

RIP at 261,000 miles - 2000 Subaru Impreza
By MileHighMotorist - April 20 - 11:03 pmDead due to a broken timing belt at 261,000 original miles (entirely my fault: I only only replaced the timing belt twice & I ignored the squealing belt for a week before it broke). Remarkably good condition at death, considering what Id put it through over the years -- who knows how many miles Id have gotten if Id checked out that squealing belt? Only two serious flaws in my opinion: The clutch cable snapped TWICE during ownership (once during a blizzard!), and too little ground clearance, particularly in front (an old Toyota Tercel EZ Id previously owned was actually much better on rough backroads than the Subaru). Overall this car is a solid winner, though, despite a few complaints.

Grocery getter?? NOT!!!! - 2000 Subaru Impreza
By Kalibos - October 20 - 10:00 amI love my Outback. Traded in a Civic EX for it. The handling is superior to the Civic and a lot of other cars in its class. Recently went on a drive with a bunch of 2002 WRXs in the mtns. My car handled just a well as they did on the turns and curves. Granted they had more horsepower. But where the road ends the pretty little road cars have to stop and I can go on. Its a blast to go to the local offroad sites and play around with the BIG Monster truck type. Seeing the looks on their faces is truly rewarding.

One of Subarus Greatest Accomplishments - 2000 Subaru Impreza
By 2.5RS - June 28 - 10:00 amThe Subaru Impreza RS is one of the most exciting vehicles on the road today. It tears into corners with dignity and grace. Then flys out of them like a Banshee. It has ample acceleration and destroys those kids with tricked out Honda with ease off the line. I give the Subaru Impreza RS a perfect 10.

Michigan review - 2000 Subaru Impreza
By Subuaru Impreza - November 18 - 7:56 amThe car has really kept us moving. It it good on gas (about 25 hwy) and rides smoothly. The turn radius is good for parking. The hatch back is ideal for around town for a trip to the grocery or even hardware store, as the back seats easily fold down (2/3 split) to allow one person in back while extra room is created for long items such as garden tools or lumber. The ride could be a little quieter but then that would mean more weight thus increasing mileage. So cant have everything. The AWD is great in heavy downpours or when snow begins to fall. I really feel secure to the road, even during these conditions.

Underpowered but reliable - easy drive - 2000 Subaru Impreza
By Neil - May 18 - 3:56 pmThis car is very reliable. That was part of the reason I bought it in the first place. It will hug any surface and get you out of a tight spot if caught on any loose surface.

Dejvu All Over Again - 2000 Subaru Impreza
By Big truck driver - January 26 - 10:00 amNeding a small and reliable car for daily commute, I looked over Honda, Nissan, and the Dodge Neon, finally deciding on the Suburu Outback Sport.I have been driving a 1998 Dodge Ram 4x4 crew cab for the past three years and needed something more economical for my 35 mile one way daily commute. The only thing getting used to was the size difference.Exterior looks great. Bought used but well taken care of. Its a pleasure and lots of fun to drive. Interior could be appointed a bit nicer for the price of the car, Who ever designed the cup holder to sit in front of the dash vent and heter/air controls should be looking for a new job.

So fun to drive! - 2000 Subaru Impreza
By planethub - January 6 - 10:00 amThe number one reason I purchased this car was because of Subaru reliability. I have had no problems so far and I plan to drive this car well over 100,000 miles. The number two reason is because of the rally inspired look. No other car on the US market even compares to the aggressive and sporty grin of the RS. Throw it into a curve and it will stick like super glue. Driving to work every day (even in snow) has never been so much fun.
