  • Happy I bought the 2017 Impreza Limited hatchback - 2017 Subaru Impreza

My husband says Im no fun to shop for cars with because Im so critical, so its very, very significant that Im so enthusiastic about the 2017 Subaru Impreza Limited hatchback we bought a month ago. (The price, $27,500, included some options but not the HK stereo.) We were replacing my 2001 Audi A4 turbo-charged sedan with all-wheel drive, and I wanted a vehicle that was safe, reliable, and had good visibility. (Im only 5 feet tall, so visibility was a big issue.) I also wanted a vehicle that could fit in our smallish garage but could carry lots of stuff. We narrowed down the contenders to the 2017 Honda Civic hatchback, the 2017 Mazda 3 hatchback, and the 2017 Impreza hatchback. We ruled out the Mazda right away; in order for my feet to reach the pedals, I had to sit with my elbows practically on top of the steering wheel. The Civic was nice, but visibility was better in the Impreza, and the Insurance Institute of Highway Safety had criticized the Civics headlights. (The Imprezas headlights are really good.) Granted, weve only had the car a month, but my initial impressions are really positive. Some of the features I especially like: blind-spot monitoring, lane-departure monitoring, wonderful visibility, smooth ride, being able to use regular gas, automatically adjusting lights. (If you turn the light stalk to "auto," the car automatically switches to daytime running lights or regular headlights, depending on the conditions.) Rear leg room is good (unlike in many vehicles this size). Handling is almost as precise as handling in the Audi was, and the brakes are nicely responsive. I also like not having to use a key. When we first bought the car, a keyless fob didnt seem like a big deal, but now its so convenient to unlock the car simply by walking up to it (when youre carrying the fob in a purse or pocket, etc.), and its so nice to have the car lock itself when you simply walk away from it (again, carrying the fob). My two main complaints are that the car is a little underpowered; for example, in my turbocharged Audi, I could zip around other cars. This car doesnt have the same "kick," but thats not a major annoyance. In fact, the so-so power is probably one reason the car gets good gas mileage for an all-wheel-drive vehicle. One other attribute that potential buyers might not like is that the seats are very firm. At first I thought the seats would be uncomfortable on a long drive, but they seem OK now. (I do wish Subaru had included lumbar adjustment, though.) All in all, though, I really like the car. Even though crash-test results for this car arent available yet, I felt confident about buying the car anyway because Subaru has such a great safety record, and Id read about safety enhancements that had been incorporated into the 2017 Impreza. Subaru has invested a lot in development of this vehicle, and the quality shows -- from the fit and finish, to the solid "thunk" when you close the doors. Because of all the money and work that had been put into development of the 2017 Impreza, I assume that reliability will be good. Some of the Subaru ads include the slogan "Confidence in Motion," and I do have a lot of confidence in this vehicle. Although I gave the car only four stars (instead of five) in some categories, Id give it five stars overall. If youre in the market for a new vehicle -- especially if youre a short driver -- I strongly recommend the Impreza Limited hatchback.

  • Imprezive Impreza! - 2017 Subaru Impreza

This is my second Subaru Impreza, but my first sedan. The 2017 Premium looks great. Nice lines, wheels and profile Inside, it feels like a Camry, or Accord...bigger than you would think. Controls are basic, intuitive, and easy to use. CVT acceleration is smooth and comes without buzz, which is a good thing! For 2017, Subaru has hushed the cabin and road noise. Their new platform gives this Impreza a sportier feel and very attentive steering. The heated seats and moonroof add to the upscale feeling. Braking is good, not great, which is usually the case in this class. AWD is awesome and worth paying extra for vs. a Sentra, Corolla, or others. Overall, this is another winner for Subaru!

  • Most problematic New Car I have ever purchased! - 2017 Subaru Impreza

We bought the top of the line 2.0i Limited Imprezza Sedan with the Harmon Kardon audio and have had numerous issues with the radio/nav system. It completely went dead within 5-days of purchase leaving us 300 miles of a road trip with no audio. Through electronic issues this eventually drained the battery and we were left jumping our new car after manually unlocking the transmission and pushing it out of the garage. They couldnt get replacements for weeks on account of new parts not yet being available for this car, which was frustrating. It was finally replaced and still doesnt work; now the back up camera is broken. Very frustrating. Have had it into the dealer 4 times in the first month of ownership. Not sure if they will get it fixed. Dealer mentioned another Imprezza in their inventory is having the same issues. Not very confident in Subarus reliability at this point. As a quick side bar the brand new Legacy loner they gave us also had electronic problems; its windows operators were faulty. We have very little confidence in this car and our dealer. Looks like a lemon to me.

  • New Year, new design - 2017 Subaru Impreza

The update on Subaru Impreza Hatchback Sport is a terrific package of improvements, all of which aid and abet the feeling of being in charge of the driving like never before.

  • Im not that Imprezed... - 2017 Subaru Impreza

Sorry I couldnt help myself with the title. After reading dozens of reviews online, and lets admit, after a while they all start to sound the same, I decided to drive a new Impreza, the Sport version of course, the only one that looks any good (I drove base model as well later on). The interior was nice and comfortable, with symmetrical lines, unlike a lot of cockeyed, crooked designs like Elantras and Sonatas, good visibility. Brake and gas pedal was almost at the same level, so the transition from gas to brake is easy whereas a lot of other cars you can almost get your foot caught. The cvt sucks of course, never feels like it has any torque and even though I go easy on my car and dont accelerate hard at all, it felt like Im pushing the car hard ( wonder how its going to feel 10 years from now). The shifting is smooth (its a cvt) but its loud, and I reckon will be a problem for a lot of drivers with sporty ambitions. Contrary to what reviews would have you believe, you can tell these are low profile tires by riding in it, and steering was artifically hard and didnt provide much feedback. Simple low speed manuevers at gas station proved to be a chore, and the lower end model felt more nimble with better steering feel and smaller screen that wont reflect as much sunlight in your face. I cant believe Im the only one to mention a-c and heater vents, in all 3 cars, they were hard to move, like they were sticking. The noise levels were fine, Id say comparable to the rest of the class. Overall, not any better than my 99 Accord, and makes me wonder besides the silly gadgets and some mpg imprevements, how much have cars improved in the last 20 years....

  • 1st Subaru and its great! - 2017 Subaru Impreza

After owning Hondas, Toyotas and a Nissan, we test drove this vehicle on a whim. We were trying to replace a Nissan Versa that was extremely gas friendly, but not great on the interstate. We test drove the Corolla, Mazda 3, and Impreza back to back. The CVT transmission was surprisingly responsive and didnt cause the engine to produce the horrible whining noise I have heard in other cars. The handling was also fantastic. Between the AWD and the boxer engine, the car just sits on the road. The overall experience was very engaging. I dont know if I will ever be able to go back to Toyota and Honda. From the Subaru dealership to the car itself, I was blown away.

Im not into writing long reviews. my run down and i got one of the first new Imprezas. Super quiet ride, all wheel drive, very safe and great sounding stereo. If you dont buy this car in that price range your an idiot.

  • Dealer great, Subaru a good company to deal with - 2017 Subaru Impreza
    By -

We purchased a nice red 2017 basic Impreza on Valentines Day. Overall, it is a well engineered Subaru. It is a Subaru, so is a little hoppy--it isnt ever going to ride like a luxury sedan. Our car needed an alignment in the first 100 miles--when aligned it drives very well. Dealer was embarrassed and very apologetic. I recommend requiring your dealer to align any new car your purchase, regardless of brand. And any dealer would sell tons more vehicles if they aligned every vehicle as it came off the truck. There is nothing as sweet as a car that tracks right and hugs the road. The backup screen froze at 120 miles but Subaru had a full-blown recall on the basic head unit ready just five days from the incident. Remember this is a brand new design throughout the vehicle, so glitches happen. I was called within hours of the local dealer receiving the recall and they had the revised software installed minutes after I brought it in that evening. We have not seen any sign of the problem since. Negatives: No place to put change for tolls. Lack of a CD player--they are hardly no longer in use. CPAs, attorneys, use them. Libraries use them for talking books. Rear deck is rather high, so visibility out the back is not very good. Of course the camera makes up for that a lot. I will try to keep this updated if anything else shows up.
