Overview & Reviews
For 2004, all Imprezas sport revised front and rear fascias -- gone are the oddball circular headlamps in favor of a more mainstream wedge-shaped design. In addition, all models get upgraded suspension struts (to improve ride quality and steering response), Electronic Brakeforce Distribution, a collapsible pedal system, revised gauges and a new stereo faceplate. The WRX and Outback Sport receive projector beam foglights. Inside, WRX models have new sport seats, a central tachometer and darker gray faux metal accents. The TS wagon, Outback Sport and RS sedan add an in-glass antenna, active front head restraints, central power door lock switch and multireflector halogen headlights. Further, the TS now has four-wheel disc brakes. The RS sedan's keyless entry system now has an audible confirmation feature, and keyless entry is now standard on the TS. Finally, the WRX sedan is now available with a Premium Package that includes a sunroof, trunk spoiler, heated mirrors, heated front seats and a wiper de-icer.
- A stout 227 horsepower in the WRX, all-wheel-drive grip, a variety of sedans and wagons to choose from, fun to drive.
- Often pricey when compared to its competition, tight rear quarters.

WRX- Not a performance Bargain - 2004 Subaru Impreza
By Jeff - September 26 - 6:26 amThe WRX being a top 10 on Car and Driver sounds great. I traded my Acura RSX base for this car and thought it would be an excellent car to own. The WRX is great if youre looking for a racer with build potential. If you want any luxury or are concerned about build quality, do not buy a WRX. The clutch squeaks, driver seat sounds like an old couch when you get into it, the paint quality is the worst I have ever seen, the gas mileage is horrible, turbo lag makes the car feel like it cant get out of its own way until you hit 3500 rpms and then it finally throws you back into your squeaky seat. No power trunk release and Oh yes there are the windows that have no frame--perhaps the worst feature

Impreza sti - 2004 Subaru Impreza
By timstein - May 13 - 10:00 amCar was great, until a month ago. The car is only 5 months old and I had to have it tuned up 3 times- oil leak, problematic fuses and a faulty odometer! This car is a 2004! , I am disappointed. I regret buying this car.

WRX STi - 2004 Subaru Impreza
By RallyProCar - August 24 - 10:00 amMy WRX STi is very fun to drive and the all wheel drive sticks you to the road. I was a little disappointed with the interior design. 300hp is of course rated at flywheel and not at wheels. Dyno revealed 12% drop to 264hp, which is still impressive, but a 6 cylinder would have done better for reliability and would be much smoother. The old M3s put out 192hp from a non-turbo 4 cylinder and that engine was not worth the pretty penny, but they were more fuel efficient. Dont do this to a 4 cylinder. Start with a 6 cylinder! Weight distribution could use tweaking and why is this a 6-speed? Thats what you get for hiking up the hp. Engine cant handle the power!

ball bearings - 2004 Subaru Impreza
By rn4nuts - March 21 - 10:00 amI have had two Subaru Outbacks. Have had the rear ball bearing go out several times after the warranty was over. I like the car other than that. Has anyone else had this same problem??? I wonder if the makers are aware?

Cute car, stupid, cheap cutbacks - 2004 Subaru Impreza
By sbirnbaum100 - October 20 - 6:06 pmWeve owned a 1996 Subaru Impreza Outback (manual) - awesome. A used 1996 Subaru Legacy - good (manual) started collapsing at 151K), now the 2004 Subaru Impreza TS Wagon automatic. Im not impressed. It eats gas (23 mpg average). Its expensive to maintain. We couldnt buy it with side body guards. It doesnt have a key for the trunk. If the electric goes, we have no trunk. Theres been a ticking (in different gears) with the car since we bought it. The Subie dealer said its a known issue with the pistons and is not considered a problem. Is that really true? If its not a problem, why did they "fix it" in the 2007 model.
