This Year's Model Updates:

For 2004, all Imprezas sport revised front and rear fascias -- gone are the oddball circular headlamps in favor of a more mainstream wedge-shaped design. In addition, all models get upgraded suspension struts (to improve ride quality and steering response), Electronic Brakeforce Distribution, a collapsible pedal system, revised gauges and a new stereo faceplate. The WRX and Outback Sport receive projector beam foglights. Inside, WRX models have new sport seats, a central tachometer and darker gray faux metal accents. The TS wagon, Outback Sport and RS sedan add an in-glass antenna, active front head restraints, central power door lock switch and multireflector halogen headlights. Further, the TS now has four-wheel disc brakes. The RS sedan's keyless entry system now has an audible confirmation feature, and keyless entry is now standard on the TS. Finally, the WRX sedan is now available with a Premium Package that includes a sunroof, trunk spoiler, heated mirrors, heated front seats and a wiper de-icer.

Pros:
  • A stout 227 horsepower in the WRX, all-wheel-drive grip, a variety of sedans and wagons to choose from, fun to drive.
Cons:
  • Often pricey when compared to its competition, tight rear quarters.

  • Fun and useful car. - 2004 Subaru Impreza
    By -

This car is pretty much what I expected; fun and practical. Ive driven Subarus in the snow before, and this one should be just as good (fun). My old one was an Outback sport with a 142hp engine. The 165hp in this car is a very welcome improvement. It can move. Trust me. And I havent even gotten it over 4k rpm yet (still in the 1000 mile break in period). The styling is much better than the 03 models. This car is also a lot more solid than the older (pre 2002) Imprezas. The exterior and interior seem to have moved up a notch in quality. Plastics arent as cheap. The doors shut with a nicely muffled thud.

  • My Spaceship - 2004 Subaru Impreza

135000 miles in 5 yr, ave 27 mpg for mostly freeway driving with utmost reliability, my spaceship still flies the same like the very first day. Problem so far are replacement of the small rubber hose/ one axle supporting the transmission/ 2 O2 sensors...Oh! Forgot to mention the performance is devastating. Could have bought a maserati or p911 or m3, but unable to find a good reason to.

  • My first Subaru - 2004 Subaru Impreza

I bought my Impy just over a year ago, and it has been the best car Ive ever owned. The steering can only be described as "silky." I have a few wishes for Subaru: Add some maplights in the front, and a compass/outside thermometer. I agree with one of the other people, Id like to have heated seats and a moonroof. I got the foglights, which are great, but would have paid extra for the moonroof and heated seats (Soobies first winter was very snowy and cold, and the AWD was awesome!). Im so glad I didnt buy a Corolla, theyre great cars too, but my Subaru is the best!

  • Just Test Drive It....Enough Said!!!! - 2004 Subaru Impreza
    By -

This car is by far the most fun car Ive driven. Its so fast. Ive burned a much faster Porche by suprising them in third gear with my turbo just kickin...then bamm. Youd be surprised how much juice comes out of 4banger. This car eats snow like its nothing too. All around you cant touch this car if you want to mod.

  • This car is a no compromise vehicle - 2004 Subaru Impreza
    By -

Need a practical car with a pretty roomy trunk? Need 4 doors? Need AWD? Need speed? This car is not only my daily driver, it is my entertainment and therapist. If Im having a bad day, I listen to the turbo spool and smile. I love this car so much mainly because I never have to worry about it not working or not having the ability to take passengers somewhere and worry about their comfort. The seats are comfortable, it has the key features you look for: ABS, cruise, A/C, PW, PL, etc. The brakes are huge and really perform great (makes this car safe). If youre considering a compact sedan and dont want to compromise on performance and practicality ... test drive this car.

  • 2004 WRX - 2004 Subaru Impreza

I had this car for 3 months now and I love her. It handles very well in the rain, which we have had so much of. The power & feel of her is amazing. Its the best car I have ever owned or driven so far. Very satisfied owner.

  • Poor MPG - 2004 Subaru Impreza
    By -

expect poor MPG. It will get 28 on the hwy going 55mph, but youd have to be dead to drive this car like that. It will get 25mpg going 85 all day. But 20mpg when accelerating the way you WILL. Its a perfect long drive winter car, even the STi cant beat it for long hauls.

  • The best of the best - 2004 Subaru Impreza

The Sti is the 8th sports/sporty car I have owned. My previous ones were a 2000 S2000, 2001 S2000, 2002 Acura TL type s, etc... I have 5K miles now and use it as my daily driver in Portland.. rain city. This car is perfect in every single possible way. You get well what you pay for. Its just utter bruit power in a livable package. I have not had a single problem, its been as reliable as the 98 civic EX I once owned. Its best described as a car in the class of other $20K- $25K cars in quality with the perf of a $100K car at only an increase of $5K.

  • Fun w/ problems - 2004 Subaru Impreza
    By -

The car is ridiculously fun to drive and makes an excellent daily driver. I have had the car a month and driving it is fun everytime i get into it. Performance is pretty good but cant really compare to the STI or EVO, but what it loses in performance it makes up for in driving ease. So far in the month ive had it the windshield got cracked and the cam shaft was leaking and so Freehold subaru had to replace the camshaft and timing belt(no charge of course). If the windshield needs to be replace it is going to cost 900 bux b/c of the wiper de-icer. Love the car, but am a little worried about quality with so many problems so soon.

  • MY WRX - 2004 Subaru Impreza
    By -

UPON PURCHASING MY WRX I DID AN EXTENSIVE REVEIW AND COMPARISON WITH THE MITSUBISHI EVO...FOR ONE WHOLE YEAR.BASED ON MY EXP WITH BOTH VEHICLES I FOUND THE SUBARU LESS MAINTAINANCE PRONE,ONLY B/C MITSUBISHI HAS AN EXTENSIVE MAINT.REQUIREMENTS LIST.ALSO THE SUBARUS ACTIVE VALVE TIMING PROVES ITS BETTER SUITED FOR DAILY USES WITH IS WHAT ITS INTENDED FOR.
