Overview & Reviews
For 2004, all Imprezas sport revised front and rear fascias -- gone are the oddball circular headlamps in favor of a more mainstream wedge-shaped design. In addition, all models get upgraded suspension struts (to improve ride quality and steering response), Electronic Brakeforce Distribution, a collapsible pedal system, revised gauges and a new stereo faceplate. The WRX and Outback Sport receive projector beam foglights. Inside, WRX models have new sport seats, a central tachometer and darker gray faux metal accents. The TS wagon, Outback Sport and RS sedan add an in-glass antenna, active front head restraints, central power door lock switch and multireflector halogen headlights. Further, the TS now has four-wheel disc brakes. The RS sedan's keyless entry system now has an audible confirmation feature, and keyless entry is now standard on the TS. Finally, the WRX sedan is now available with a Premium Package that includes a sunroof, trunk spoiler, heated mirrors, heated front seats and a wiper de-icer.
- A stout 227 horsepower in the WRX, all-wheel-drive grip, a variety of sedans and wagons to choose from, fun to drive.
- Often pricey when compared to its competition, tight rear quarters.

Love it...but changes needed - 2004 Subaru Impreza
By JARDKER - October 29 - 2:00 amSubaru has made a wonderful car but no one is 100% the first year. I expect small changes in the future to make this beast into THE CAR.

Cute car, stupid, cheap cutbacks - 2004 Subaru Impreza
By sbirnbaum100 - October 20 - 6:06 pmWeve owned a 1996 Subaru Impreza Outback (manual) - awesome. A used 1996 Subaru Legacy - good (manual) started collapsing at 151K), now the 2004 Subaru Impreza TS Wagon automatic. Im not impressed. It eats gas (23 mpg average). Its expensive to maintain. We couldnt buy it with side body guards. It doesnt have a key for the trunk. If the electric goes, we have no trunk. Theres been a ticking (in different gears) with the car since we bought it. The Subie dealer said its a known issue with the pistons and is not considered a problem. Is that really true? If its not a problem, why did they "fix it" in the 2007 model.

Stealth bomber - 2004 Subaru Impreza
By 04WRXwagonowner - October 5 - 10:00 amIn silver the sport wagon attracts little of the attention the WR Blue vehicles do. Very enjoyable from 75 to 110 in fourth gear. All wheel drive is excellent in changing conditions (dirt, gravel, rain, slush, etc.). Once moving, it has the go of my V8 Mustang, but is more stable at high speed and MUCH safer in the wet.

Transmission Woes - 2004 Subaru Impreza
By jk55 - September 5 - 10:00 amThe 5 speed manual is awful or, perhaps, I got a lemon. I have had many manual transmission cars and this is the first that has given me trouble.

So Much Fun - 2004 Subaru Impreza
By erikald - July 31 - 10:00 amThis is a great car if you like to be an active driver, which I do. It has power to spare and is very responsive. The challenge is to avoid speeding tickets. No regrets.
