This Year's Model Updates:

For 2004, all Imprezas sport revised front and rear fascias -- gone are the oddball circular headlamps in favor of a more mainstream wedge-shaped design. In addition, all models get upgraded suspension struts (to improve ride quality and steering response), Electronic Brakeforce Distribution, a collapsible pedal system, revised gauges and a new stereo faceplate. The WRX and Outback Sport receive projector beam foglights. Inside, WRX models have new sport seats, a central tachometer and darker gray faux metal accents. The TS wagon, Outback Sport and RS sedan add an in-glass antenna, active front head restraints, central power door lock switch and multireflector halogen headlights. Further, the TS now has four-wheel disc brakes. The RS sedan's keyless entry system now has an audible confirmation feature, and keyless entry is now standard on the TS. Finally, the WRX sedan is now available with a Premium Package that includes a sunroof, trunk spoiler, heated mirrors, heated front seats and a wiper de-icer.

Pros:
  • A stout 227 horsepower in the WRX, all-wheel-drive grip, a variety of sedans and wagons to choose from, fun to drive.
Cons:
  • Often pricey when compared to its competition, tight rear quarters.

  • Fun and practical - 2004 Subaru Impreza

After driving trucks for years, I finally decided to get something fun for the roads, but still needed to carry my music and camping equipment on regular occasion. What better than the Subaru WRX? You get the agility of a sports car and the utility of a wagon with the same vehicle. The interior is laid out intuitively and is very pleasant to the eyes. Exterior styling is nice, not obvious to everyone what lies underneath the hood, which is great. Bottom line is the car is incredibly fun to drive, without typical sports car compromises.

  • Great car- with problems - 2004 Subaru Impreza

ve owned this car for a little over a year now, and have had my first gear replaced once, and will probably have to do it again soon (all under warranty). The dealership has told me everything from “That’s normal for the WRX” to “You must abuse the car” (The hardest it ever gets driven is my morning commute) A little bit of research told me that this a pretty common problem caused by inadequate synchros.

This is my second Subaru, after owning a 2 door impreza L I found I needed a little more room. The rear folding seats allow for enough carry space to allow me to haul most of what I need around, and works perfect for transporting equipment for my job. On the weekends is when this car really shines, has enough power and grunt to keep me happy through the twisties, as well as on an autoX course.

  • Best Performance Bang for the Buck - 2004 Subaru Impreza

Whats not to like about a car that can give Porsche Turbos a run for their money on the road and cost you less than your average entry-level luxury snoozer? You get the convenience of 4 doors, an enourmous trunk, and respectable gas mileage. Plus, you get the safety of Subaru AWD standard. Nuff said.

  • More fun to drive than a Forester. - 2004 Subaru Impreza

I traded my Subaru Forester in on a WRX wagon and couldnt be happier. The car is nearly as versatile, and much more pleasant and fun to drive. The 5 speed manual transmission has a notchy engagement feel, which can be alleviated with upgraded bushings, which I plan on doing at point. It took me a while to get used to the peakiness of the turbocharged 2.0 H4. It could be described as on or off, which is kind of nice in stop and go traffic. Keep it below 3k RPMs and you have nice little commuter car, wind it up a bit and youve got a little monster on your hands. Aside from the wonky gearbox, its a fantastic little wagon.

  • buy an evo instead - 2004 Subaru Impreza

AFTER A LONG TIME OF DECIDING WHICH CAR TO BUY, I CHOSE THE STI OVER THE EVO. WITH BETTER SPECS,I THOUGHT THAT I HAD MADE THE RIGHT CHOICE. WITHIN A WEEK, THE CAR HAD ALREADY STARTED HAVING MECHANICAL PROBLEMS. AFTER SEVERAL VISITS TO THE DEALERSHIP,MY CAR WAS FINALLY FIXED. THIS IS MY 3RD VEHICLE THAT I HAVE PURCHASED NEW AND SO FAR TURNED OUT TO BE THE WORST ONE.

This car is rugged, roomie, and sporty all in one. We love how the seats can fold down for extra space or that we can put the seat up and our dog can stay in the truck area, but there is a small problem Subura does not make a pet grate for this model. It does have a rubber tray that collects anything that our dog brings in with her. Even though the car is a four cylinder it is very peppy and the independent breaking system is awesome. The ride of the car is smooth because of the high raised suspension. Overall though we are very satisfied with the car and would recommend it to our friends.

  • FUN FUN FUN - 2004 Subaru Impreza

Purchased vehicle with automatic transmission for wife to use daily. The Turbo makes this a very fun car to drive, and merging into traffic is no longer a problem with this power. This is a performance sedan, so the ride is a little harsh but not severe. The handling more than makes up for the stiffer ride. Wife is averaging 23 mpg with mostly city driving. Manners on longer trips if very acceptable. Front seats are excellent and are fitted with side airbags. Rear seat has a folddown center section for longer items. Living in Phoenix, good A/C is a must and the Subarus works great in 110 degree days. Great Car.
