This Year's Model Updates:

For 2004, all Imprezas sport revised front and rear fascias -- gone are the oddball circular headlamps in favor of a more mainstream wedge-shaped design. In addition, all models get upgraded suspension struts (to improve ride quality and steering response), Electronic Brakeforce Distribution, a collapsible pedal system, revised gauges and a new stereo faceplate. The WRX and Outback Sport receive projector beam foglights. Inside, WRX models have new sport seats, a central tachometer and darker gray faux metal accents. The TS wagon, Outback Sport and RS sedan add an in-glass antenna, active front head restraints, central power door lock switch and multireflector halogen headlights. Further, the TS now has four-wheel disc brakes. The RS sedan's keyless entry system now has an audible confirmation feature, and keyless entry is now standard on the TS. Finally, the WRX sedan is now available with a Premium Package that includes a sunroof, trunk spoiler, heated mirrors, heated front seats and a wiper de-icer.

Pros:
  • A stout 227 horsepower in the WRX, all-wheel-drive grip, a variety of sedans and wagons to choose from, fun to drive.
Cons:
  • Often pricey when compared to its competition, tight rear quarters.

  • The 04 WRX is tight - 2004 Subaru Impreza

I just bought my new 2004 last week and all I can say is, WOW. It may be the smoothest, most fun to drive car Ive ever driven. I actually had given up on the 03 WRX cause I didnt care for the front design of the car with the bug-eye looking headlights and all. Then I saw the 04 at a big dealer show in my area a couple weeks ago and I didnt even realize it was a WRX. Subaru did a hell of a job on redesigning the body to make it more pleasing to the eye. Of course rear passanger space and cargo room are limited, which is why I got the sports wagon but thats fine with me since Ill only be in the drivers seat.

I traded in my 1999 Passat V6. Was rather tired of the Bosch electrical drama all the time. I am only down 25hp from the 190 V6 in the Passat and it tracks far better (AWD) and handles about the same! Exterior wind noise is minimal and interior sound deadening is wonderful....like the Passat. The safety I feel is there as well. Just to know the engine will submarine under me in an accident and there are imbeded roll bars in the door coupled with good crash test has me hooked. The boxer engine reminds me of my BMW motorbike........smooth and durable ( I hope).

So far so good, and with Michigan winter coming, well really know for sure. This car replaces our Jeep Wrangler - seems light-years different, I know - but not really! The Outback Sport has WAY MORE luggage and passenger space, is vastly more comfortable on long trips, and uses a LOT LESS fuel. But we never took the Jeep on anything worse than reasonably smooth dirt roads (lots of camping), and the Subaru tromps over those even more comfortably. But I wish it were just a little roomier in the very back. The "styled" hatch really cuts into cargo space.

  • Great AWD car! - 2004 Subaru Impreza

Ive had my 04 Impreza TS wagon for about a year and it has been awesome. I live in Illinois and bought the car in New Jersey, my parents picked up the car and drove it the next day a 1000 miles to me with no trouble. I then drove the car to NJ and back (2000 miles) a month again with no trouble. For a non-tubo model it still has a kick to it from a stop and no trouble passing at highway speeds. My car has 160,000 + miles and runs like new. The cargo area is big enough for what I need, although narrows at the top. All in all I love this car and would highly recomend it. I will definitely buy another Subaru.

  • The muscle car killer - 2004 Subaru Impreza

This car is just pure amazing. It can out accelerate almost any rival, it handles like a dream on turns and can stop on the dime. The interior is very nice, the seats, steering wheel, pedals, everything. The exterior speaks for itself. If youre looking for an ultra high performance sedan, that is practical and reliable, starting under 30K, you must check this car.

  • Its a performance bargain... - 2004 Subaru Impreza

Whats not to love about an all-wheel drive 227 hp turbocharged wagon? With its boxer flat 4 engine mounted down low...you can actually feel where the center of gravity is...down low where, combined with the AWD system, promotes the amazing grip that this car displays. No matter what the road conditions, the driver stays in control. Yeah, this wagon hauls...

So much power, much better technology especially in the diffs) than the EVO. Amazing car in all ways. For the money, the best sports car you can buy. If you want the car is much more tunable than an EVO because of the larger displacement and lower boost. Great car.

Awesome looks and style. Subaru growl Sporty, fast, reliable. A little annoyed with the slight vibration on the highway which is said to be "normal" for "v" rated tires and the sport suspension. The AWD system has since dissapointed me a little after our 1st snowstorm this weekend. The rear wheels spin even under low acceleration, and so the rear fishtails - worse on cornering. Traction was there but not as i have known in the past. The ABS system is awesome in the snow though Other than that i just love it!

Im so glad I bought my Subaru. The car is easy to maintain. It has great handling and it saves gas. The power is there when I need it. It is the best car I have ever owned!
