This Year's Model Updates:

For 2004, all Imprezas sport revised front and rear fascias -- gone are the oddball circular headlamps in favor of a more mainstream wedge-shaped design. In addition, all models get upgraded suspension struts (to improve ride quality and steering response), Electronic Brakeforce Distribution, a collapsible pedal system, revised gauges and a new stereo faceplate. The WRX and Outback Sport receive projector beam foglights. Inside, WRX models have new sport seats, a central tachometer and darker gray faux metal accents. The TS wagon, Outback Sport and RS sedan add an in-glass antenna, active front head restraints, central power door lock switch and multireflector halogen headlights. Further, the TS now has four-wheel disc brakes. The RS sedan's keyless entry system now has an audible confirmation feature, and keyless entry is now standard on the TS. Finally, the WRX sedan is now available with a Premium Package that includes a sunroof, trunk spoiler, heated mirrors, heated front seats and a wiper de-icer.

Pros:
  • A stout 227 horsepower in the WRX, all-wheel-drive grip, a variety of sedans and wagons to choose from, fun to drive.
Cons:
  • Often pricey when compared to its competition, tight rear quarters.

  • Excellent - 2004 Subaru Impreza

It has been an excellent vehicle. The car is very good in the dry and snow, and phenomenal in the wet. It feels very solid, and I have had no problems during the 57000 miles I have put on it. It is very fun to drive, gets decent fuel mileage, has plenty of interior space, and is a very parctical car. When you wear out the OE tires, I strongly recommend some high performance tires like Bridgestone Potenza 750s or S-03s. They make a great dry and wet car even better.

  • Raw, fun, sometimes exhausting - 2004 Subaru Impreza

I love this car for its speed, grip, and handling, but I find it somewhat trenous to drive in traffic. That has nothing to do with the manual transmission, by the way, which shifts like a dream. My civic/integra hybrid is a manual and is more relaxing, despite its high performance clutch. I think its the heavily caffeinated motor. Now on a wide open road, its a different story. Its reasonably quiet but still louder than a normal WRX.

  • Minor Details - 2004 Subaru Impreza

Ive had my WRX about 5 months. Not a single problem. Great car. Its all in the details. Handling and power are great and MPG isnt bad. MPG could be a bit better BUT, people getting 20mpg (overall) need to learn how to drive for efficiency. I live in the mountains and have consistently gotten between 27.5 and 30.2 MPG highway/city. I could do a little better but its hard to resist that Turbo Temptation. This car would be a 10 if Subaru would address the minor issues - paint and interior.

Im a race fanatic. Ive driven Acuras RSX Type-S and ridden Suzukis GSXR 1000, taking both through their and my limits. Hence the term speed junky to describe myself would be well used. The STi has been by far the best bang for the buck Ive ever experienced. Just like with motorcycles, Im not going to tell you that one car is the best for you; it boils down to driving preference, comfort, and affordability. For $31k I was considering the MazdaSpeed6, and the MazdaSpeed3. After our last few snowstorms here in CO I settled for an AWD sedan with a good punch. The STi has been by far the best refined AWD sedan I tested within this price range/category (sports-sedan).

  • I love this car!!! - 2004 Subaru Impreza

I bought this car because of its performance combined with its versatility. I work closely with several different doctors and have had the opportunity to drive many of their cars ranging from King Ranch F-350s and H2s to Z06 Vettes and BMW Z3s. This STI will easily keep pace with my friends Vette, plus I have a back seat and a trunk and average 25 mpg. This is the first turbo-powered car I have owned, but the power deliver seems very smooth to me. It is very easy to putt around town in, but even easier to fly on the interstate with.

  • THE ULTIMATE RACING MACHINE ! - 2004 Subaru Impreza

This STi owns all BMWs, Audis, AMGs, Lexus, Acuras, Infinity, Mustangs, Corvettes, Lancers, Honda Type-Rs, plus any other "so-called" performance cars on the road. Any existing and future owners of such STis are the luckiest people on the Earth. Once get behind the wheel, forget about going home!

  • best yet - 2004 Subaru Impreza

I find it much more comfortable than my previous car (Ford Mustang). Its faster, safer, and gets better gas mileage. The boy racer wing is a bit much. I love the interior and seats. All the controls are within easy reach. The transmission is solid. The gears are very, very short. The engine is incredibly powerful. This is the greatest car I have ever owned by leaps and bounds.

  • As Advertised! - 2004 Subaru Impreza

Exactly as advertised. Its powerful, its fun to drive. This car isnt meant to be a luxury car, so yeah, the rides harsh. But if you want luxury, buy some slow Cadillac. And the rides not all that bad, really. Theres a few quirks and things that Ive noticed, but the only unscheduled maintenance has been minor. I cannot begin to tell you how happy I am that I bought this car. If you have the money and want a fast, fun, car, THIS IS IT! You would not get me to trade this in for a Porsche, Vette, or M3 at any price. Maybe an E55 or M5, but that would be about it. And those are $50K more.
