This Year's Model Updates:

For 2004, all Imprezas sport revised front and rear fascias -- gone are the oddball circular headlamps in favor of a more mainstream wedge-shaped design. In addition, all models get upgraded suspension struts (to improve ride quality and steering response), Electronic Brakeforce Distribution, a collapsible pedal system, revised gauges and a new stereo faceplate. The WRX and Outback Sport receive projector beam foglights. Inside, WRX models have new sport seats, a central tachometer and darker gray faux metal accents. The TS wagon, Outback Sport and RS sedan add an in-glass antenna, active front head restraints, central power door lock switch and multireflector halogen headlights. Further, the TS now has four-wheel disc brakes. The RS sedan's keyless entry system now has an audible confirmation feature, and keyless entry is now standard on the TS. Finally, the WRX sedan is now available with a Premium Package that includes a sunroof, trunk spoiler, heated mirrors, heated front seats and a wiper de-icer.

Pros:
  • A stout 227 horsepower in the WRX, all-wheel-drive grip, a variety of sedans and wagons to choose from, fun to drive.
Cons:
  • Often pricey when compared to its competition, tight rear quarters.

  • Flawless! - 2004 Subaru Impreza

In the 2.5 years and 30,000 miles Ive had the WRX, it has been nearly perfect. Acceleration, even on regular unleaded, is awesome. Im on the second set of tires, and did a "plus zero" on the stock wheels, and the slightly wider tires definitely improve the handling, although its still no BMW when it comes to the ride/handling balance. The interior is still an Impreza econobox, but the Momo wheel and upgraded seats make a big improvement in looks and comfort! Overall, by far the best car Ive owned.

I love this car. There are few other cars on the road that have no difficulty in smoking Camaros with a full-assembled BBQ in the back. Having tried it in snow, I have never had a more sure-footed car that can perform at that level. This thing accelerates like it was kicked; even on ice. It stops like it is anchored; even on ice. It is extremely nimble and it mixes a huge fun-factor with reasonable practicality. Thank you Subaru.

Ive enjoyed this vehicle for over a year now. It is a great car; it makes driving in the city (Chicago) almost enjoyable.

  • Great car, but room for improvement - 2004 Subaru Impreza

My experience with my 03 2.5 TS has been great. I have upgraded my OEM 15s to 2002 stock wrx 16s. The impact, although minor, has been great. lighter/tighter feel. will be upgrading to a cobb exhaust soon.. My issues are, the crappy stock cd player they give you. ive already had to replace my first one under warranty. the second one is better but it still has issues with playing burned cds. and the sound at interstate speeds is a little loud. kind of light body frame as well, not safe feeling.

  • All weather street-legal racecar - 2004 Subaru Impreza

I wanted an STI long before they came to US shores. The amount of power Subaru was able to extract from a four-cylinder, 2.5 liter engine is nearly obscene. I paid $27K for a 375hp (after a few mods) monster thats as much fun on the racetrack or an autocross course as it is running errands around town. The guttural roar of the boxer, accentuated by an aftermarket turboback exhaust, makes you want to turn off the radio and roll down the windows. I am forced to drive like a complete jerk by this car, and still manage to get 25 mpg around town. Test drove the Evo, the VW R32, the S2000, and while this isnt as comfortable as the VW or as go-kart light as the Evo, it is by far the most fun.

Going to be a year old soon-car pretty much lives up to the hype-altough around town performance isnt great if you want to keep your clutch, although once the turbo gets going not much could keep up. Highway driving is awesome, AWD is great and seamless- goes through snow like its spring time- what other performance car could you say that about. Just found out 2005 is even further improved (too bad for me), actually looking forward toward next WRX purchase.

  • SANTA MARIA! - 2004 Subaru Impreza

How does Subaru do it? This much power and control cannot be had anything on the market south of a Porsche 911 Carrera. But at just over 32Gs it could be the greatest sports car value of all time. The car easy cruises at speeds of 100 mph plus and has jawing dropping acceleration in all 6 gears. Subarus AWD set makes the car corner like its on rails. It loves to eat up asphalt and can tear up dirt roads as well. Yet it can be driven in all weather conditions and is comfortable to be driven everyday. A truly AWWWWWWWWWWWWWWESOME machine!

When my wife and I bought our first WRX in 2002 I had no idea what was to come. When I first drove down the street in my STi I was overwhelmed... I was like, "its really mine!” My only reservations were the seats - which I already replaced with JIC Magic seats (aftermarket race seats). After adding some basic bolt ons I was impressed even more. The build quality is awesome and I know that reliability is no issue.

  • Im in love with my car - 2004 Subaru Impreza

I love it when I start it, when I drive it, and when I lock it up. I love it in the middle of the night just knowing its in the garage. The power. The brakes. The handling. The roar. The POWER! And the looks I get -- driving into the parking garage at work ... dropping my kid off at school (from the other parents) ... pulling into the 7-11. You can take your 350Z, your Evo, your (cough) S2000 and keep them. Keep them out of my way, that is.

  • One Word... Awsome - 2004 Subaru Impreza
    By -

This is the best car that I have ever purchased. The handeling in the car is great and hugs the road on curves. The auto trans is better then expected. Ya, there is some power loss, but none that you could tell. With just a slight press on the gas petal... youre off. Im glad the fixed the design from the bug eyed modle from before. Also, I was waiting for the moonroof and it is finally avalible in the 04. Dont pass one of these up!
