This Year's Model Updates:

For 2004, all Imprezas sport revised front and rear fascias -- gone are the oddball circular headlamps in favor of a more mainstream wedge-shaped design. In addition, all models get upgraded suspension struts (to improve ride quality and steering response), Electronic Brakeforce Distribution, a collapsible pedal system, revised gauges and a new stereo faceplate. The WRX and Outback Sport receive projector beam foglights. Inside, WRX models have new sport seats, a central tachometer and darker gray faux metal accents. The TS wagon, Outback Sport and RS sedan add an in-glass antenna, active front head restraints, central power door lock switch and multireflector halogen headlights. Further, the TS now has four-wheel disc brakes. The RS sedan's keyless entry system now has an audible confirmation feature, and keyless entry is now standard on the TS. Finally, the WRX sedan is now available with a Premium Package that includes a sunroof, trunk spoiler, heated mirrors, heated front seats and a wiper de-icer.

Pros:
  • A stout 227 horsepower in the WRX, all-wheel-drive grip, a variety of sedans and wagons to choose from, fun to drive.
Cons:
  • Often pricey when compared to its competition, tight rear quarters.

  • DEFINITELY WORTH IT - 2004 Subaru Impreza

If you are looking for a fast 4WD car, this is yours. I have put aftermarket parts on it (NOS, Turbochargers, large Intake Manifolds, Intercoolers etc.) This car can easily do 100 mph. easily. It is definitely worth it.

  • STI vs EVO - Ive owned then Both Now. - 2004 Subaru Impreza

I just got rid of a 2003 Evo after 1 year, and just got a 2004 STI: Both cars are just like the press says - But I give an edge to the STI. One big blast of a ride, the STI does have a more forgiving a ride than the Evo, has a better interior, and has a cruise control (Mitsu you listening?). Seat of the pants tells me the STIs 29 more horses and 27 more lbs torque are for real. Handling - both handle different and require different techniques on hard cornering. The Sti just a little lift throttle oversteer to set the apex, then punch it and watch the thing scream. Im a speed junkie and the STI is just that much more than the EVO.

We purchased our 2004 Subaru Impreza Outback Sport Wagon after comparing many other cars using the following criteria in order:Price, safety, reliability, asthetics, handling and practicality. We found this car to beat all contenders easily and it handles superbly. Firm enough to take a hard turn with confidence and soft enough to soak up the small stuff. The non-turbo has 168 hp and is plenty for the weight of the car and not enough to get me into turbotrouble+low insurance! It gets great mileage for an AWD and runs smooth as silk. Built 100% in Japan. Runs like its on tracks and gives me TOTAL confidence after having to make 2 life saving evasive manuvers.

Its GREAT ! The acceleration and handling are amazing and its ride and mileage is pretty good for a daily driver, although you can almost watch the gas needle move during "spirited" driving and the seat does get a bit uncomfortable for journeys over 4 or so hours.

I traded a 2002 WRX for this car because I wanted to avoid the turbolag. I surely does that! I love the car and consider it the best pure performance vehicle Ive ever owned. Strengths are power, power, and more power. The ride is firm and fuel econ is fair as expected. Lack of available floor mats is a disgrace for a $32000 car but that is nit picking a great performance auto.

This is a dream come true for all boys older enough to own a licsence. Power, speed, accelleration and oh baby looks that could take a thousand breaths away. This is an experience that can not be described in any words. So get down to a dealer and testdrive a wrx sti and experience life like never before

The best car Ive driven on tight, twisty roads. Suspension is much stiffer than my 98 M3. Changing the throttle between slightly-on/off seems to disproportionately affect the cars line. Practical around town - easy to drive in traffic! Lots of road noise, some minor dash rattles.

I love driving my black WRX STI. It is very comfotable and you can see out of it 360 degrees. The air conditioning works great in Pennsylvania hot humid August weather. Its all wheel drive is excellent in the rain , even with factory summer tires, which will be replaced with winter tires when the snow and ice arrives. Its too bad with my driving that the car gets only 16 miles per gallon, but my Miata got 20 and it only had 133 horsepower.

This car is not for everyone. But I personally love it. Its much cheaper to maintain if youre a DIY person. you should be aware of a few things though. "summer only" tires. Youll be buying some A/S tires soon. Brake pads are expensive from dealer. Can be had for much less online. Not a lot of wheels fit over the Big Brembo Brakes. Awesome car though. So happy I bought it.

  • Great Car - 2004 Subaru Impreza

The only thing i would change is the acceleration "out of the hole." Other than that, its a great car!!
