This Year's Model Updates:

For 2004, all Imprezas sport revised front and rear fascias -- gone are the oddball circular headlamps in favor of a more mainstream wedge-shaped design. In addition, all models get upgraded suspension struts (to improve ride quality and steering response), Electronic Brakeforce Distribution, a collapsible pedal system, revised gauges and a new stereo faceplate. The WRX and Outback Sport receive projector beam foglights. Inside, WRX models have new sport seats, a central tachometer and darker gray faux metal accents. The TS wagon, Outback Sport and RS sedan add an in-glass antenna, active front head restraints, central power door lock switch and multireflector halogen headlights. Further, the TS now has four-wheel disc brakes. The RS sedan's keyless entry system now has an audible confirmation feature, and keyless entry is now standard on the TS. Finally, the WRX sedan is now available with a Premium Package that includes a sunroof, trunk spoiler, heated mirrors, heated front seats and a wiper de-icer.

Pros:
  • A stout 227 horsepower in the WRX, all-wheel-drive grip, a variety of sedans and wagons to choose from, fun to drive.
Cons:
  • Often pricey when compared to its competition, tight rear quarters.

As a previous owner of a WRX and frequent passenger in an Evo. I can say that I made the right decision. Subaru build quality is excellent. The aceleration of this car is unlike any other on the street. With just a turbo back exhaust I have the car running 12.7 1/4 mile times. Thats Corvette country and that makes Evos disappear in the rearview mirror. The ride quality is not as good as the WRX but better than the Evo, but that is to be expected from a race ready car. The interior puts the Evo to shame. Gauges are great . The Evo seats are better than the STi, the STi seats are better than the WRX. The 6MT is far better than the WRX or Evo shifter. Short shifter is a great add-on

  • Definitely a Rally Car - 2004 Subaru Impreza

Incredibly fast with great handling, though road grip is best during acceleration-- it diminishes when easing off the gas. Still, the car easily takes ramps or highway curves 25 MPH above signs. Very limited body roll. No tire screech with the stock "summer" tires and AWD. Torque is fair at 1500 (5th gear is possible at 20 MPH). Impressive torque above 2500. Seats are a bit hard for long rides (1 hour +). The suspension is very stiff-- moves over rolling roads (barely noticeable bounce) but absorbs potholes / rough pavement very little (even small ones are obvious). The inside comfort is limited-- but then this is a rally car.

The ultimate in compromise vechiles, take the kids to school in no time at all. Fun and sporty to drive, while still comfortable for everyday commuting. You can even slap some luggage racks on and its a great vacation cruiser.

I love my car, people always tell me how great my car looks. I really enjoy the turbo on the car, it really takes off. My friend took it for a test drive after I got it, and got a speeding ticket, not realizing that he had been going so fast. Lots of fun. I really like that it doesnt look like every other car. I know the turbo makes the engine run hot.

I have owned the since 3 July 03 and have been enjoying the car ever since I got rid of one Subaru to get this one and am glad at the time it was the only one on the lot and I was leary about buying a demo but I had to have it. Although it does not get the best gas mileage it makes up for that in the fun to drive department. It has lots of power and my wife also enjoys driving it. The fact that it does not come with a radio or floor mats. But who wants to listen to a radio when you can listen to the boxer engine singing as you drive it on a twisty road.

the vehicle is very awesome i have done some mods to it and let me tell you you can really make this little car a beast with a couple hundred dollars the only problems i have had with it is that it was in for a transmission repair but that was under the warranty they have a problem with the synchros on them but after i had it fixed it runs like a charm and there is no problem again

This car is a great performer, but you pay the price with a harsh ride. Fuel economy is poor, even when driven tame (15-17mpg). Build quality could be better, especially with paint. The paint seems to chip and scratch easily. Make no mistake, this car is about the engine and little else. Subaru should offer performance upgrades packages with reduced warranty coverage for those looking for more performance. If your looking for a quick car with a nice ride for the same price...look at the Infinity G35.
