This Year's Model Updates:

For 2004, all Imprezas sport revised front and rear fascias -- gone are the oddball circular headlamps in favor of a more mainstream wedge-shaped design. In addition, all models get upgraded suspension struts (to improve ride quality and steering response), Electronic Brakeforce Distribution, a collapsible pedal system, revised gauges and a new stereo faceplate. The WRX and Outback Sport receive projector beam foglights. Inside, WRX models have new sport seats, a central tachometer and darker gray faux metal accents. The TS wagon, Outback Sport and RS sedan add an in-glass antenna, active front head restraints, central power door lock switch and multireflector halogen headlights. Further, the TS now has four-wheel disc brakes. The RS sedan's keyless entry system now has an audible confirmation feature, and keyless entry is now standard on the TS. Finally, the WRX sedan is now available with a Premium Package that includes a sunroof, trunk spoiler, heated mirrors, heated front seats and a wiper de-icer.

Pros:
  • A stout 227 horsepower in the WRX, all-wheel-drive grip, a variety of sedans and wagons to choose from, fun to drive.
Cons:
  • Often pricey when compared to its competition, tight rear quarters.

  • Theres a new Sheriff - 2004 Subaru Impreza

I test-drove my scoobie on a cold, rainy night during rush hour. I pulled out onto the freeway feeder and stomped on the gas. Never before have I experianced anything like it in such unfavorable conditions. Amazing acceleration. A good, balanced handling and steering package, a very rough ride, and a little more understeer than expected. But mash the gas and other drivers are just sitting still - fantastic. Its your chance to own a true musclecar. Those Playstation kids will want to hug you.

  • I love my car. - 2004 Subaru Impreza

I love everything about this car...with a couple of hitches. I wish I got the MPG they tell you it gets. I get about 20-22 mpg on average; Ive never gotten anywhere close to 26...even pure highway. My tranny had a problem. They fixed it no question. The paint kinda sucks. the stock stereo is terrible. Beyond that I love it. It rips in the snow. Is safe in the rain. Is a blast to just drive around. Its a great car. My first new car..and Im happy with my choice. On top of that..I owe less than its worth. How often can you say that about a 15 month old car with 32k miles on it?

  • Subarus are truly at home in Alaska - 2004 Subaru Impreza

Ive driven subies in Alaska for about 18 years..before most people ever heard of them. The main reason is they long ago perfected reliable all wheel drive. Finally, they added fun to the equation! I got the wagon so Id have a little more room for camping gear, the roof rack, and the fold-down rear seats. Its also cheaper to insure then the sedan, even though its basically identical. Go figure. Ive only had it about a month, but its a fun ride. More power then anyone really needs in a car this size, but thats why its fun. Easily became the car where Id be tooling along and look down and notice I was going 85 instead of 65.

  • Race Car with Factor Warrenty - 2004 Subaru Impreza

This is my first 4cy. and I am very very impressed, this car drives like a V-8. The engineering behind this car is truly exhausting, not much was missed. This car can meet anyones driving style, the car can be mild manored if driven properly, if you let the revs get above 3000 your over the speed limit. This car has truly moved the bar for what a performace car should be. I will have to keep this car for a long time or I will be forced to pay 100k to find something that will compare to the overall performance found in this car.

  • I love my REX - 2004 Subaru Impreza

This is one fantastic car. The handling is phenomenal, the acceleration is awesome - its a blast to drive. I feel so safe in the car. It responds incredibly well. I tested a lot of cars before I got the WRX, such as the Accord V6, Celica GT-S, Mazda6 S, (and others) and none of them compared to the WRXs performance. Its a monster AWD performerIts a great bang for the buck!!!!

  • 2004 WRX - 2004 Subaru Impreza

This is a wonderful car. Fun to drive, handling is fantastic and it is faasst. The WRX is a trend setter - notice how many new turbo cars are now being offered - and few are AWD. Its a great bang for the buck. I have the WRX with the premium package and the car was still very reasonable. If youre looking for a reliable, fast car with a lot of punch, and a car with a lot of character - the WRX is worth considering. The new look (non-bug eye) is more my taste than the 2002 and 2003 style. The only con to the car is that the interior can be made a bit more substantial looking, and that the sedan doesnt have 60/40 rear fold down seats.

  • Best car ever made!! - 2004 Subaru Impreza

Subaru has done it again. I Was so impressed by the WRX. But the WRX STi is a true Drivers Car! Amazing! If you like fast cars you will love WRX STi! POWER, HANDLING, SAFETY, AWD, what else would you need! It is a MUST BUY!

  • The Beast is here! - 2004 Subaru Impreza

If youre looking for a no compromise performance car and cant yet afford a 911 turbo than the STi is worth a look. The STi is total function over fanfare and one spin through your favorite twisty road will prove it to you. Power is stout over 3,500RPM handling is crisp after you get a proper wheel alignment and the tires are as close to race rubber you can get for street use. The boxer engine makes a sweet exhaust note and the styling turns heads. I have never seen so many thumbs up while driving a showroom stock car.

  • A Keeper! - 2004 Subaru Impreza
    By -

After driving the car for a few days, I can honestly tell you that theres not another car in the world like the STi. With no turbo lag, the car pushes you back into your seat even when starting from a dead stop! The car is great on the inside and out and is packed with gadgets and goodies for all kinds of people. Unfortunately, youll be lucky to get 270 miles to the tank. All in all, this car is perfect for anyone who loves to drive and doesnt mind spending the extra time and money for upkeep.
