This Year's Model Updates:

For 2004, all Imprezas sport revised front and rear fascias -- gone are the oddball circular headlamps in favor of a more mainstream wedge-shaped design. In addition, all models get upgraded suspension struts (to improve ride quality and steering response), Electronic Brakeforce Distribution, a collapsible pedal system, revised gauges and a new stereo faceplate. The WRX and Outback Sport receive projector beam foglights. Inside, WRX models have new sport seats, a central tachometer and darker gray faux metal accents. The TS wagon, Outback Sport and RS sedan add an in-glass antenna, active front head restraints, central power door lock switch and multireflector halogen headlights. Further, the TS now has four-wheel disc brakes. The RS sedan's keyless entry system now has an audible confirmation feature, and keyless entry is now standard on the TS. Finally, the WRX sedan is now available with a Premium Package that includes a sunroof, trunk spoiler, heated mirrors, heated front seats and a wiper de-icer.

Pros:
  • A stout 227 horsepower in the WRX, all-wheel-drive grip, a variety of sedans and wagons to choose from, fun to drive.
Cons:
  • Often pricey when compared to its competition, tight rear quarters.

Being a World Rally Fan I wanted to own a car like the vehicles that race in that series. Mitsubishi came out with the Evo VII Lancer early this year to rave reviews. I drove one and felt that it was very rough edged and not suitable for a daily driver. In comparison the STi Impreza WRX is a very polished vehicle with awsome performance. Sub 5 second 0-60, 13.2 seconds in the quarter mile. "What is that?" Is the question I get the most. This car has about $18,000 worth of performance parts without the need to get rid of all the factory stock parts. BBS wheels, lightened glass, Alloy hood, brembo brakes, etc. etc....Get one and Enjoy.

This car is the funnest thing I have ever driven. I have wanted an STi since they came out in 1994 in every other country except the US. Everyone asked me what my favorite car was and I told them a Subaru Impreza WRX STi version 4 Type R. They were like huh and what the heck is that? Then in 2003 I found out they were coming to the US as a 2004 model WITH 300HP AND 300 FT.LBS!. Well, needless to say, I started saving my money up, but I got impatient and bought a nearly immaculate used 2004 with ridiculously low miles for a very good price. Why someone traded it in is beyond my comprehension.

As an outdoor person, the WRX wagon cannot be beat for the fun, usability, reliability and cargo. A mechanic by trade, I could not forego the reliability of Subaru when compared to its European counterparts. I have had it a little while now and still make excuses to drive to the store or any other reason to go out in the snow and play. With a rear sway bar kit from Hotchkis, the car, even as a wagon rotates perfectly on its second setting. Great car at a great price. Managed to get it for $21,900 with 16 miles on the clock from the dealer after several hours of negotiating. Couldnt recomend it higher at the price, functionality and fun factor.

  • Comfortable and Fun - 2004 Subaru Impreza

I almost bought the STI but I am glad I didnt. I like the fact that I get heated seats, heated wipers, moonroof and all around more for my money. and for an extra $2500 you can make the WRX a little faster than the STI with actual Subaru performance parts. So, my vote is for the WRX. Its comfortable and fun!

Excellent car. Just curious: Any others out there who would like this vehicle in the wagon version?

  • "4 Door Vette" - 2004 Subaru Impreza

Simply Awesome! 3 days and my first ticket. Mileage sucks but hey it is worth the price of entry. Took top of wing off and put on 50 series tires and it has become quite civilized and a sleeper. Potential currently exceeds my ability... but not for long. I am trully happy that I bought this vehicle and I got it for less than MSRP to boot. Truly a 4 door vette!
