This Year's Model Updates:

For 2004, all Imprezas sport revised front and rear fascias -- gone are the oddball circular headlamps in favor of a more mainstream wedge-shaped design. In addition, all models get upgraded suspension struts (to improve ride quality and steering response), Electronic Brakeforce Distribution, a collapsible pedal system, revised gauges and a new stereo faceplate. The WRX and Outback Sport receive projector beam foglights. Inside, WRX models have new sport seats, a central tachometer and darker gray faux metal accents. The TS wagon, Outback Sport and RS sedan add an in-glass antenna, active front head restraints, central power door lock switch and multireflector halogen headlights. Further, the TS now has four-wheel disc brakes. The RS sedan's keyless entry system now has an audible confirmation feature, and keyless entry is now standard on the TS. Finally, the WRX sedan is now available with a Premium Package that includes a sunroof, trunk spoiler, heated mirrors, heated front seats and a wiper de-icer.

Pros:
  • A stout 227 horsepower in the WRX, all-wheel-drive grip, a variety of sedans and wagons to choose from, fun to drive.
Cons:
  • Often pricey when compared to its competition, tight rear quarters.

  • Fun work days and weekends - 2004 Subaru Impreza

I use the WRX Wagon for work and pleasure. I truly have to haul "stuff" (wheels) and fold the rear seats down for that. In comparison to a full grown station wagon or truck it is 10 times more fun to drive. I enjoy my "work" becuse of it. Yes, I am looking forward to every haul.

I am the previous owner of a 77 awd wagon that I logged 300k on and a Legacy GT 02 and an Outback Legacy. I like this Sub the best except one thing. There is a small rattle coming from the rear hatch area that the dealer cannot fix after multiple visits. Just going to live with it. Car handles great and yes, its worth more now than what I owe and I put nothing down! Really holds its value well. Fast enough for me with 168hp 4 cylinder and cruises easily with the automatic transmission. For those getting sub-par gas mileage ... change the air-filter+ oil frequently and use Chevron gas additive Techroline Plus. It makes a BIG difference. Was 20-22 now 25- 26mpg. I know this car will hold up for 300k.

This Car ROXXORS. Not only does it feel like a rocket when going in straight lines, but this thing is a blast to throw around. Endless power and that lovely turbo noise is great. Best 4cyl car ever.

Imagine a 4 door sedan with a huge wing and a massive hoodscoop. Plenty of room for all your friends, yet 300 horses and 300 lb/ft of torque to whip around. Its docile at lower rpms but put your foot down and the car pushes you back in your seat. All wheel drive and race tuned suspension means the car handles like/better than a Porsche. Braking comes from huge 4 piston brembos in the front which means itll stop as well as a $150K Ferrari Modena 360. All for the same price as a slower, not as good at braking or handling but better looking Nissan 350z. Its all about power though, and I never even hit 4000 rpm yet as Im still breaking her in.

  • 2004 Black STI w/silver rims - 2004 Subaru Impreza

Im 36 and recently traded in my 2002 WRX for this car. The engine is fantastic. I never run it to redline because the midrange torque is so fun to feel. Brakes are fantastic. The transmission is fantastic...tripple synchros in second and two in first and third. I drove an evo and its very impressive as well, but the STIs engine stomps it...really no comparison by what you feel when driving. Im absolutely sure the STI would be near the top of all cars tested if it only had proper seats that keep you planted.

  • The search is over.... - 2004 Subaru Impreza

I have finally found a vehicle that combines all the features Im looking for. The performance both in power and handling, plus the abilities of a 4 door sedan. Theres no substitute (aka Evolution) as far as Im concerned.

  • It does it all - 2004 Subaru Impreza

This car does everything I need at this point in my life. It has four doors, all wheel drive, and a good size trunk. But the best thing is the unbelievable power from this "family car". Buy one...you wont be dissapointed!

  • 1st Subaru, and I am glad I bought it. - 2004 Subaru Impreza

I bought my Outback Sport on 6/1/04, and have loved every minute of driving. Im still under the break-in period (only 150 miles left) so Im keeping it (barely) under 4k RPM. Even keeping my Sport under 4k RPM, I still have enough power to freely move around at freeway speeds. I took my Sport and my fiancee on a nice long drive up Pacific Coast Highway from Santa Monica to Ventura the weekend after we bought it, and we were thrilled with the handling, power, and comfort. This is truly the perfect car for me. Plenty of room for the rugrats (when they come) and for Future Dog (when he is adopted).

  • Great little wagon! - 2004 Subaru Impreza

After flipping cars every 6 mos for the past 2 years, I think Ive finally found the right balance of everything! Has plenty of room (like my old 4Runner), handles great (close enough to my A4), gets great gas mileage (MUCH better than my V6 Accord)...This car has handling, convenience and character to spare! The boxer engine is just a gem - likes to rev, rock and roll! The 2.5L engine has PLENTY of power and torque, gets better gas mileage than the 2.0L blown version, and costs about HALF to insure. Skip the WRX, skip the 9.2X and check this one out - you wont be disappointed.
