This Year's Model Updates:

A performance R/T model is onboard for 2000. Intrepids get five new colors, new seat fabric in Base models, and added horsepower and torque to ES models powered by the 2.7-liter V6. AutoStick is available with that engine, and ES buyers can order an in-dash CD changer. Tether-ready child-seat anchors have been added behind the rear seat, and cars sold in California meet LEV standards.

Pros:
  • Huge interior, gigantic trunk, available 3.2-liter V6 engine on the ES model, good looks.
Cons:
  • Cheap interior materials, lots of engine and road noise, invisible corners make parking a chore.

This has got to be the roomiest car I have ever seen. I love the design and just overall look of it. If you need to get up and go--this car will do it. I have no complaints on this car. I used to own a firebird and this car is just as quick and sleek looking, but better for me now that I have a family. Just overall an awesome car.

I have owned my Intrepid ES for four years now. It is a great car and very reliable. I would put it up against any Japanese car in its class. I laugh at my co-workers who drive Japanese cars like the Accord, whos doors "ting" when you close them. This car is solid, and well styled, unlike the boring Camary which people sadly buy for whatever snobish reasons.

This is the best car I have ever drivenon ice or wind especially in the Columbia River Gorge. It holds the road very well and love the styling and wide track. Ive heard rumors that they are going to replace it with another modle. I hope they will keep the Intrepid line and styling.

Have had three so far. 1994 had many problems. 1997 was flawless. This one has been the same. No problems and a nice, large, car that is sporty and fun to drive. Added a California wing (low arch) to the back and this car looks like twice the price. We plan on keeping this one for several more years as we have added a 03 AWD Caravan ES to the "stable" and it is getting most of the daily driver use.

Best car I have ever driven. In high winds the car keeps straight into the wind with no sway, also still gets excellant gas milage. They drive like a sports car and fun to drive.

The car is very solid and could be a blast to drive but my feeling is that there is insufficient air flow to the engine. I am working on ways to improve this horesepower issue and would welcome any ideas. In the future the car should be built with dual exhaust to help a little with whatever drag is occuring in the engine.

I bought this baby new off the lot and have had a lot of problems. One week after driving off the lot, the driver side power seat broke. Since then it has gone down hill. Had the seals around the doors and trunk replaced, the entire ac unit after 3 trips to the dealer, 2 transmission pumps and a transmission mother board and a few other minor issues. Very comfortable seats & the trunk is roomy enough to store my double stroller with plenty of room for a entire grocery load!

The vehicle is very comfortable and very fun to drive. The styling is still fresh even after three and a half years of ownership. Interior trim is very luxurious and of high quality.

  • Great car - 2000 Dodge Intrepid

I purchased my intrepid with 30000 miles on it in September 2002. Now the car has 53000 on it. This has been a reliable car no breakdowns or anything, has not been to the mechanic once. The car gets fantastic gas mileage 30mpg on highway. For the small 2.7 liter V-6 the car has great performance, great accelaration, when accelerater pushed all the way to the floor the rpms go way up wich slows down acceleration but its still pretty peppy. Has Good handleing and braking.

I bought it new off the lot and had lots of problems with the dealer. Two days after I picked it up, the driver power seat fell into the back seat. Needless to say I should have learned my lesson then. I have now had three transmissions, 2 transmission mother boards, 1 transmission fuel something, all the seals around doors and trunk replaced and the air conditioning system replaced twice!!!! And if you can believe it Dodge wont buy it back!!!! I drive mostly highway miles and this car is not reliable. The transmission still slips and they claim it is just fine.
