Overview & Reviews
A performance R/T model is onboard for 2000. Intrepids get five new colors, new seat fabric in Base models, and added horsepower and torque to ES models powered by the 2.7-liter V6. AutoStick is available with that engine, and ES buyers can order an in-dash CD changer. Tether-ready child-seat anchors have been added behind the rear seat, and cars sold in California meet LEV standards.
- Huge interior, gigantic trunk, available 3.2-liter V6 engine on the ES model, good looks.
- Cheap interior materials, lots of engine and road noise, invisible corners make parking a chore.

Dissatisfied - 2000 Dodge Intrepid
By VERY Dissatisfied - July 6 - 2:00 amI am very dissatisfied with the car. We had trouble with it with a cam shaft cencor whitch ended up costing us better than $500 and now the timing chain went threw the engine and is goiing to cost us about $5,000 to fix. We only have 81000 miles on it. My old 96 Monte carlo has 194000 on it and only uses a court of oil between oil changes every 5000 miles. We changed the oil on the Intreped every 3000 miles and it is JUNK. I dont think that I could ever buy another DODGE produt again. JUNK JUNK JUNK

The Golden Chariot - 2000 Dodge Intrepid
By Vinny from Brooklyn - May 30 - 2:00 amA very fun and exciting car to drive. Handling is steady and firm, and the look is very sporty for such a large car (17 feet long...). There is more than enough room for my family (2 - Adults, 3 - Children), and the car can really move considering it is so large!

Do NOT buy!!! - 2000 Dodge Intrepid
By bmharrison - April 25 - 2:00 amOn the surface, it looks like a great car and until recently, I loved mine. However, the engine has a defect and the timing chain will slip at anywhere between 60,000 and 80,000 miles and destroy the engine. The cost to replace is generally 5,000 and Chrysler refuses to do anything about it. It is a safety issue--the engine will seize while youre driving and you lose all steering and breaking. This is affecting hundreds if not thousands of owners at this time. If you want to confirm, do a search for timing chain and dodge,I now have a car that is worth nothing (its not worth it to replace the engine) and I still owe $6,000 on it!

My 2nd Intrepid - 2000 Dodge Intrepid
By captken - April 24 - 2:00 amSecond time around with Intrepid. Great road call. Too big for DC commuter traffic. My favorite chair is in this car. Looking over right shoulder to see traffice is a challange...view blocked. Never did get used to slooping front end. Have to memorize where your front bumper is.

Great Car - 2000 Dodge Intrepid
By stoneked - April 18 - 2:00 amThis car is a fantastic vehicle! Fun to drive, great fuel economy and roomy. My only complaint is it is a little loud as far as road noise. Needs a little more insulation under body and wheel wells. Also the door rubber seals come loose.

close but not not quite there - 2000 Dodge Intrepid
By r/tman - March 17 - 2:00 amIts a fun car to drive but there is a lot of little things that should not be there on a car pushing $30,000. Door seals that have been replaced, twice, a transmission that isnt sure if it should be in gear when cold, dealer cant find the problem, numerous rattles that shouldnt be there. The ownership experience would be a lot more fun if these things werent there.

2-late-to-trade - 2000 Dodge Intrepid
By 2late - March 3 - 2:00 amWE BOUGHT THIS CAR NEW AND HAVE OVER 100000 HIGHWAY MILES. WE HAVE HAD NO MAJOR MECHANICAL PROBLEMS UNTIL THIS WEEK WHEN THE OIL LIGHT CAME ON AND ENGINE LOCKED UP WITH AN OIL LEVEL (WE HAVE THE OIL CHANGED AROUND EVERY 5000 MILES) NEW ENGINE WILL COST MORE THAN THE CAR IS WORTH! hOW CAN THAT BE? WE SHOULD HAVE TRADED IT IN BUT HOPED IT WOULD LAST ANOTHER 100000. WILL PROBABLY BUY A HONDA CIVIC NOW.

great looks.......poor quality - 2000 Dodge Intrepid
By Koziol - February 18 - 2:00 amIt is a well designed car and powerful. However, there are many mechanical problems. The steering locked in a circle when turning. The windows fog up all the time. The worst problem was when both of my front tie-rods broke off the rack completely disabling my steering after only 50000 miles. Fortunately, I was only pulling away from the curb, or otherwise there may have been a potentially fatal accident from a instantaneous loss of steering. I was told that my bushings had worn out and transferred the force to my tie- rod bolts.
