This Year's Model Updates:

A performance R/T model is onboard for 2000. Intrepids get five new colors, new seat fabric in Base models, and added horsepower and torque to ES models powered by the 2.7-liter V6. AutoStick is available with that engine, and ES buyers can order an in-dash CD changer. Tether-ready child-seat anchors have been added behind the rear seat, and cars sold in California meet LEV standards.

Pros:
  • Huge interior, gigantic trunk, available 3.2-liter V6 engine on the ES model, good looks.
Cons:
  • Cheap interior materials, lots of engine and road noise, invisible corners make parking a chore.

  • Lucky me! LOL - 2000 Dodge Intrepid

I bought my Intrepid at the end of the model year, paid $19k for it new , 0% financing, no $ down. My car has never been back to the dealer, except once, around 65K miles on a roadtrip when the engine light came on. Found a local dealership, (while still driving, ty cell phone). Dealer took me in Friday 2:30pm, changed my cam sensor for $325, and I was on my way. Car now has 96K on it, and I havent had any other problems. Of course my door seals have shrunk, but no need to replace them as I see it. I change my oil at Jiffy Lube every 3-5k. After reading these reviews Id say I must just be a really lucky man-lol OH yeah, drivers window clamp broke,no doubt from overuse! big deal-

  • OK - 2000 Dodge Intrepid

When I bought the car, I loved it. After a few months, I found that the quality was more "plastic". It looks great and drives well, however too many squeaks and rattles make for a noisy ride. On initial acceleration, car seems to "jump" into first gear - enough to give you whiplash! Very odd squeaking when engine starts up - comes from rear passengers side wheel well - had it in to be looked at but they could not find the problem. It still "squeaked" this morning, but I dont care - trading it in for a Ford today - glad to get rid of it. Rearview mirror is in the way of everything - could be a bit higher. Dashboard is turning white from grey????

  • My Dodge is great - 2000 Dodge Intrepid

My Dodge has been great. 3.2 motor, ES trim, Sunroof, no leaks, no major problems, no complaints. I change the oil regularly but not always at 3K. My Dodge gets me an average 26.3 MPG, has 78K on it, and its fun to drive. The car handles well and is still all original equipment. I have replaced brakes and tires but thats it. This has been a very nice car, the ride is smooth and reasonably quiet. Very satisfied. My car is well made. Always a pleasure to get in and drive. Bought it brand new and have been pleased ever since. No plans to trade or sell it any time soon.

This car is roomy - especially the trunk - its very large. Even the back seat is comfortable and the driver doesnt have to reach for the radio and other controls.

  • intrepid: one dad commutes comfortably - 2000 Dodge Intrepid
    By -

after owning a 1991 accord and commuting 60+miles to and from work, i decided i needed comfort. my new job however, is only 43 miles to and from, which makes me wish i had the intrepid back a year ago. my daughter loves the spaciousness and so does the mrs. (if shes happy so am i).

  • Big car room with small car handling - 2000 Dodge Intrepid

Im happy with my Intrepid so far. It handles very well in turns. I have a 3.2 liter engine and thought that with 225 horsepower the car would move faster. Its enough to get on highways with but off the line it takes a little bit to get going. I also drive a 98 Altima and found that the 4 cylinder engine in that is much quicker. Weight is an issue with this car

  • Avoid the 2.7L at all costs!!!!! - 2000 Dodge Intrepid
    By -

Whatever you do dont buy the 2.7L. Ours just blew up after 50,000 miles. If you dont beleive me do an internet search for "Dodge 2.7 sludge", you will see hundreds if not thousands of other people complaining of the same thing at even lower milage! The 2.7L has a design flaw where the top half of the engine overheats and causes oil to turn to sludge, it makes it look like it hasnt had an oil change in years even if it has and they void your warranty over it! If the sludge wasnt bad enough, the sludge screws with the timing belt tensioners and loosens the timing belts in a lot of cases too! Causing damage to lifters and requiring thousands in repairs! Class action suits have been filed

  • disapointment and frustration !!!!! - 2000 Dodge Intrepid
    By -

i purchased it with 29,000 miles on it.got rid of it at 34,000 miles.the whole time of ownership i had a check engine light that stayed on more then the radio! a/c didnt work either.i changed the oil every two months regardless of miles.the sludge build up wont stop no matter how much the oil is changd i recomend any one with a intrepid to get rid of it NOW!!!!!!!!!

  • Be careful!!!!! - 2000 Dodge Intrepid
    By -

If you are going to buy this car, make sure it was well maintained. The standard 2.7L engine that comes with the car, will eventually fail if the oil is not changed religiously every 3000 miles. If you dont believe me, do a search on the interenet for 2.7L engine failure, youll be amazed at how many people, myself included, have had major engine failure at low miles. It happened to us at just over 70k. Its going to cost us $6000 to get a new engine, becuase they are in such high demand. That fact alone should tell you something. The engine failure will happen with little. BE CAREFULL or you might end up with an expensive lawn ornament!!!!
