This Year's Model Updates:

A performance R/T model is onboard for 2000. Intrepids get five new colors, new seat fabric in Base models, and added horsepower and torque to ES models powered by the 2.7-liter V6. AutoStick is available with that engine, and ES buyers can order an in-dash CD changer. Tether-ready child-seat anchors have been added behind the rear seat, and cars sold in California meet LEV standards.

Pros:
  • Huge interior, gigantic trunk, available 3.2-liter V6 engine on the ES model, good looks.
Cons:
  • Cheap interior materials, lots of engine and road noise, invisible corners make parking a chore.

  • Worst car ever! - 2000 Dodge Intrepid

Had more problems with this car then any other. Very poor quality. Rims rusted. Interior door lining fall off. All kinds of mechanical problems. Vent system in fuel filler. Computer. Brakes. Windows. Door locks break, door wont open. Engine light issues. Winshield Wipers, electrical problems, oil light. goes on and on! And it only has 57,000 miles on it. Well kept and always serviced! A real LEMON!

  • Second Dodge disaster - 2000 Dodge Intrepid

Fun to drive and looked good. Sold with 93,000 miles. Cheap interior plastic parts and carpet, door molds fell out of door, cheap leather on seats. Replaced power divers power motor. Window just fell to bottom of door. Transmisson died at 92K. $1,300 for tranny! 3.2 L engine ran OK but started blowing blue smoke. Cut my losses and sold. Second Dodge! Both were junk! Will never buy any other Dodge or Chyrsler again.

  • We all make mistakes... - 2000 Dodge Intrepid

Bought this car used in July of 05 with 90,000 miles. Looked sharp, interior was good. Engine was a disaster. Oil pressure sending unit was bad, engine burned oil (1 qt. every 1000 miles), had to do extensive engine work 3 months later, and now a valve has blown, throwing off timing and other things. No longer driveable getting a salvage/rebuilt engine for these cars is difficult to the apparent very high demand for replacement engines. Expensive, too. It looks pretty, but I can get lawn ornaments for much cheaper somewhere else. It died at almost 116000, but from what I hear, thats pretty long-lived for an Intrepid.

  • a poor excuse for a 2000 model car - 2000 Dodge Intrepid

This car has been a lemon from the start. Started out being a check engine light that they could not find the problem for. Finally taken to another service dept in another county only to find out that there was sludge in the engine. Considering that I had the oil changed app every 2-3 I was pissed. I feel that chrysler really messed up this time. i wont ever purchase another one.

Many misc. minor problems as well as major problems with 2.7L engine. Not very reliable.

  • Be careful!!!!! - 2000 Dodge Intrepid

If you are going to buy this car, make sure it was well maintained. The standard 2.7L engine that comes with the car, will eventually fail if the oil is not changed religiously every 3000 miles. If you dont believe me, do a search on the interenet for 2.7L engine failure, youll be amazed at how many people, myself included, have had major engine failure at low miles. It happened to us at just over 70k. Its going to cost us $6000 to get a new engine, becuase they are in such high demand. That fact alone should tell you something. The engine failure will happen with little. BE CAREFULL or you might end up with an expensive lawn ornament!!!!

  • Not So Reliable - 2000 Dodge Intrepid

This is a very appealing car from the outside and in but I think I could do better.

  • Do NOT buy!!! - 2000 Dodge Intrepid

On the surface, it looks like a great car and until recently, I loved mine. However, the engine has a defect and the timing chain will slip at anywhere between 60,000 and 80,000 miles and destroy the engine. The cost to replace is generally 5,000 and Chrysler refuses to do anything about it. It is a safety issue--the engine will seize while youre driving and you lose all steering and breaking. This is affecting hundreds if not thousands of owners at this time. If you want to confirm, do a search for timing chain and dodge,I now have a car that is worth nothing (its not worth it to replace the engine) and I still owe $6,000 on it!

  • 2-late-to-trade - 2000 Dodge Intrepid

WE BOUGHT THIS CAR NEW AND HAVE OVER 100000 HIGHWAY MILES. WE HAVE HAD NO MAJOR MECHANICAL PROBLEMS UNTIL THIS WEEK WHEN THE OIL LIGHT CAME ON AND ENGINE LOCKED UP WITH AN OIL LEVEL (WE HAVE THE OIL CHANGED AROUND EVERY 5000 MILES) NEW ENGINE WILL COST MORE THAN THE CAR IS WORTH! hOW CAN THAT BE? WE SHOULD HAVE TRADED IT IN BUT HOPED IT WOULD LAST ANOTHER 100000. WILL PROBABLY BUY A HONDA CIVIC NOW.

  • Nice but probably not again - 2000 Dodge Intrepid

I bought this baby new off the lot and have had a lot of problems. One week after driving off the lot, the driver side power seat broke. Since then it has gone down hill. Had the seals around the doors and trunk replaced, the entire ac unit after 3 trips to the dealer, 2 transmission pumps and a transmission mother board and a few other minor issues. Very comfortable seats & the trunk is roomy enough to store my double stroller with plenty of room for a entire grocery load!
