This Year's Model Updates:

Two new trim levels join the Jetta lineup for 2006: the upscale 2.0T and the sporty GLI. Both feature a 200-hp, turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder, and both can be equipped with VW's trick DSG direct shift gearbox. All Jettas besides the Value Edition now feature standard alloy wheels, and torso-protecting rear-seat side airbags are newly optional.

Bought used with 50k miles on it. Owned VW before so the peeling paint off the radio buttons and the loose headliner was no big deal (similar to my 1980 rabbit). At 95k the clutch is going out and I am afraid of whats going to be lurking under the hood. Havent fixed it, spent all weekend reviewing websites (plenty of them). I am surprised that VW hasnt had a recall. Lesson: Dont buy the 2006 TDI, and to be honest, think seriously about other TDI. If VW does something mechanically wrong, they apparently dont do the right thing and have a recall. UGGGGGH.

  • VW TDI 44 mpgs - 2006 Volkswagen Jetta

I spend a lot of time driving people around and as much as I love my Beemer the gas mileage was killing me. In in effort to find something better at the pumps I starting researching hybrids, then diesels. It struck me that when I found out the in Europe around 40-50% of the cars sold are diesel that they were on to something. They are, a far superior fuel economy. I average around 44 mpgs. Hybrids get great milage too, only replacing the batteries after 100,000 miles seemed costly compared to diesels longevity. Diesels also have more future fuel options, such as Bio-diesel (google Willie Nelson and bio diesel) Im completely happy with my VW and the 2006 model is very very nice.

  • A great little car - 2006 Volkswagen Jetta

We now have over 7,000 miles on our Jetta, and I must say as a first time VW owner, I am impressed. I tried all the others, Toyota, Honda, Ford, Pontiac Vibe, and there was no comparison to quality and quiteness of the ride and the build of the VW. Followup by the dealership here in Orlando has been poor, with them not returning phone calls on questions but the car itself is great.

  • Great Car - 2006 Volkswagen Jetta

Even though I bought a 2.5, it still has spunk. The 5-speed transmission makes it fun to drive, plus the addition of a K&N air filter (pain to put in) adds more zip and improved gas mileage (24-33.4 mpg). Now having put some miles on it, the drive is still fun and I want to improve it with more power parts to make it even better for the $16,000 that I bought it for.

  • Car not worth poor customer service - 2006 Volkswagen Jetta
    By -

I have been disappointed with my Jetta. While the car handles well with a lot of pep, visibility from the sides & rear is extremely poor due to window heights & wide side struts. Paint quality is poor, scratching at the slightest ding & worse than any car Ive owned. The speedometer registers a higher-than-actual speed. The dealership refused to replace it under warranty when the problem was first noticed. There is now a TSB for the issue. Worst of all is the deplorable customer service. Service has to be fought for & requires multiple visits for the same problem. Service managers are rude & show no remorse for inconveniencing customers. The car is not worth the battle.

  • I Love my Jetta GLI - 2006 Volkswagen Jetta

I love my Jetta GLI. I was going to buy an Acura TSX but I could not bring myself to like it better than even my old 97 Jetta GLX. I test drove a 2.0T with DSG and it was great but having always driven a stick it just wasnt me. Once I test drove the GLI in the 6M I was in love. The ride is great, interior great, and so many thoughtful things like rear air, headlight washers, radio controls on steering wheel, built in air deflector on moonroof that actually works and extremely quiet for a sporty car. The electronically assisted steering makes 100 mph seem like 60. Turbo lag is not even noticeble. I test drive probably 12 different cars and for the money this was by far the greatest. Oh and it gets great gas mileage.

  • Good, Safe, Reliable - 2006 Volkswagen Jetta

I bought this car for my oldest girl just before she turned 16. I wanted the safest car on the road and something she could take to college; that would give me piece of mind. Three people have hit this car and no one has been injured. The car weathered the damage very well and was easily restored to like new condition, and still has not had any mechanical/electrical issues. Its a really good first car! I dont like the noise from the air pump when its first started either, but its not really a problem, its just a temporary loud noise.

  • More fun than a barrel full of monkeys - 2006 Volkswagen Jetta

This is the best car that I have ever owned. I had a Honda Accord before this, and I was a Honda guy. NO MORE. The handling and responsiveness of the Jetta compared to the Accord is unbelievable. This is by far the most fun car I have ever driven. It truly has to felt to believe, and even though the Accord was bigger, the Jetta is more comfortable for family of 5 (with two in car seats). From what I understand it is the safest small car on the road, and know that it has more safety features standard than the Accord. I have the Pkg. 1 and the sunroof is great. I love the interior and the XM Satellite radio, 6 CD changer, heated seats, and the 10 speaker sound system that come standard. This car has a ton of standard features.

  • Why isnt it included in more reviews? - 2006 Volkswagen Jetta

My Jetta-TDI is just the best thing Ive bought in a long time. It runs smooth, quiet and gets 41+ mpg. Yet, I seldom read about it in the evaluations of valuable cars. They are missing the mark.
