Overview & Reviews
Two new trim levels join the Jetta lineup for 2006: the upscale 2.0T and the sporty GLI. Both feature a 200-hp, turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder, and both can be equipped with VW's trick DSG direct shift gearbox. All Jettas besides the Value Edition now feature standard alloy wheels, and torso-protecting rear-seat side airbags are newly optional.

Love this car! Efficient, Fun,Versitile! - 2006 Volkswagen Jetta
By NWS - June 28 - 1:00 amI commute 180 miles, round trip, each day to work and with fuel cost skyrocketing my GMC Yukon was simply costing too much to run. Some of my friends who own VW diesels suggested I take a look at them. Test drive, purchase, happiness! The fuel cost savings pays the car payment and the insurance, very amazing. Have never gotten less than 39 mpg and on several trips have gotten 48 mpg, average is 43 mpg. Local driving and AC use seem to be the things that lower the mileage but only by 2 or 3 mpg. The crash safety ratings were also a major plus. No maintenance issues yet at 35,000 miles.

Makes my drives actually Exciting!!! - 2006 Volkswagen Jetta
By Vonnicht - June 8 - 3:56 amI have had the car since Aug of 2008 and I am very impressed with Volkswagen right now. The build quality is superb, This car not only feels as solid as a rock, it OWNS the road. Handling is amazing I feel like I have superhuman reflexes with how responsive the steering is. I average about 26 MPG with 60 hwy/ 40 cty driving. Another plus with this car is that it requires fewer oil changes, the recommended is every 10,000 miles or 12 months. It does require full synthetic. I researched many other models and makes and you cant beat the level of quality and luxury that Volkswagen has to offer at this price level. I also got mine for 3k less than book, certified.

6 month / 18,000 mile Review - 2006 Volkswagen Jetta
By K Milec - June 6 - 7:33 pmI drive in excess of 700 freeway miles a week and needed a commuter car to replace the SUV I was commuting in. I compared the Jetta to cars from the foreign and domestic brands and found them lacking on either finish, features, safety, fuel economy, or cost-of-ownership. The Jetta won me over on finish, features, safety, and fuel economy. While the cost-of-ownership is more than a Toyota Corolla or Honda Civic, I dont consider the features of those cars equal to the Jetta. So, what about the fuel economy? Wow! The fuel savings from the TDI engine are about half the monthly payment on the car. In all: This car really satisfies me.

Dont Buy the 2006 Jetta TDI - 2006 Volkswagen Jetta
By Tim Maynard - May 24 - 11:10 amI bought my Jetta and it has had a rough idle since about 4,000 miles. I have taken it to the dealer four times in over four months. They have not been able to repair it. The last time they said they were not able to repair it at this time. I filed a lemon law complaint with the BBB, and was denied due to the fact that it was not a serious enough problem. So now I am stuck with a lemon and I cant do anything with it. Talk about a waste of $22,000 dollars. Do yourself a favor, and stay away from the 2006 TDIs. Look at TDI club and search for 2006 rough idle and see all the other unhappy owners.

Horrible experience - 2006 Volkswagen Jetta
By rachelnoli - May 18 - 11:34 amI owned a 2001 Jetta that ran like a dream, never had any problems even though it was 6 years old when I bought it. I bought my 2006 in 2009 with 28k on it. Right around 50k miles the check engine light started coming on and no amount of money would fix it. I took it to 3 different mechanics but as soon as I fixed one thing another problem would arise. Do your research before you buy a VW! If you find a good one, they are great cars. Otherwise itll be a nightmare.

Not so bad - I dont get the other reviews - 2006 Volkswagen Jetta
By backhoebob1 - May 12 - 7:07 pm131K miles. The car had a couple of problems, but I dont understand the reviews. Yes, you have to change the timing belt every 80k or 95K miles. Same for my Camry. The difference is Ive spent $5500 less in gas to cover the same miles! (43 vs 28 mpg, $3.8 vs $4.1/g). Ive put a wheel bearing on it ($300, my bust for using a dealer) and four glow plugs ($440). Ill have to cam it in 50K miles or so. SO WHAT! Ill have saved $8500 at that point. Three sets of shocks, plugs and O2 sensors on the Camry - $800. No squeaks, firm, smooth, tons of leg room (68"). I cant believe people complain about $3K in maint for 200K miles with $5000 in their pocket.

Fun, Fast, and Furious - 2006 Volkswagen Jetta
By Jim - May 1 - 3:33 amMy 2006 Volkswagen Jetta GLI is a very fun little car. Sure its not meant to compete with exotics or sports cars, but it gives a lot for its price. I own a BMW M3 and I figured this was the perfect car for my son, and it is a very safe car.

Check first - 2006 Volkswagen Jetta
By C. - April 27 - 3:13 amThe speakers in my Volkswagen Jetta rattle. Be sure to ask your service department to fix this problem prior to picking your car up. They install a kit to fix the problem. Also, this cars cold-rtart (all new Jettas) sounds like an 18-wheeler on first start. VW of North America stated this is normal, until they can identify a solution to fix it. It sounds like a box of rocks rattling for 10 - 15 seconds.
