This Year's Model Updates:

Two new trim levels join the Jetta lineup for 2006: the upscale 2.0T and the sporty GLI. Both feature a 200-hp, turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder, and both can be equipped with VW's trick DSG direct shift gearbox. All Jettas besides the Value Edition now feature standard alloy wheels, and torso-protecting rear-seat side airbags are newly optional.

I think the Jetta Value Edition is VWs best kept secret; and it shouldnt be. Whether you are young, or not-so-young, I recommend that you check out this car. Im glad I bought mine. I look forward to driving it every day. The cloth seat fits me like a glove. The 5-cyl. engine has good juice and pretty good low end torque. The transmission is tight and the gearing seems to match the engine well. This car handles better than anything I have driven in its class. Its packed with safety features. It is surprisingly roomy (my three teenagers can all sit in the back seat) and the trunk is huge. It has a 48,000 mile / 4 year factory warranty.

The main differences between this and the regular Jetta besides the obvious wonderful 2.0 engine (which by the way has longer maintenance intervals than the old 1.8T) are: 1) the steering is heavier, especially nice because it is not overboosted at lower speeds. 2) the suspension is firmer

I have wanted to combat the high cost of gasoline for a long time. I have found my weapon to be a stylish, sophisticated economy (or is this a mid-size, the rental car companies have me confused on whats what!) car with luxury touches: the Jetta TDI. The interior is surpisingly smart and "rich". The heated leather seats have the look and feel of a high end car in a different price range. Some other manufacturers charge $500 - $1,000 for satellite radio, it was included in the cost when you purchase package 1 or 2.

I bought the new 2006 Volkswagen Jetta GLI last month with the 2.0T engine, the same one that is in the Audi A4 without the Audi price. This is my first VW, I have heard great things about the Jettas but I like a lot of horsepower (200 I have now). The gas milage is great. I love the paddle shifters. I am so glad that the resedigned Jetta has more room for people in the back. The GLI is a top-of-the-line car, with leather sport seats all for under $30,000 including all the taxes and fees.

  • True cost of all that mileage - 2006 Volkswagen Jetta

2006 Jetta TDI package 2. 183,000 miles. Maintenance costs are high, approx $400 DSG trans fluid service every 40,000 miles. Timing belt every 80,000 miles approx. $1,100. Syn. oil changes about $80. My dual mass flywheel just failed over $1,500. Also turbo failing approx $2,000. I am repairing all of the above because the car gets more mpg than most hybrids. I just hope that the dreaded camshaft failure doesnt occur. I will drive this one for a bit longer, buy a new TDI and hope for better luck. In spite of all the above I still love to drive my TDI.

  • The Answer to Your Car Question - 2006 Volkswagen Jetta

My Jetta TDI is the alternative to my F-150 Supercrew. It is a wonderful car. I went back and forth between another 4-cyl. Accord and the Jetta TDI. My first VW is just as intuitive, but sportier and a great driving value, compared to the wonderful Accord. I have put 10,000 miles on it in three months averaging 41 mpg for city and driving. I average 43 mpg at 75-80 mph, and 37 mpg at 85-90 mph. I get 50 mpg at 60-65 mph occasionally. Middle to high 40s mpg is very realistic. Everyone asks me what I think, I tell them, "I would have bought it a long time ago, if I would have known then what I know now." After all, I bought two of them. Package 2 w/ rear airbags, diesel automatics.

  • Best MPG ever - 2006 Volkswagen Jetta

First of all: it is a German car - precise, exact, and yes, well built. Then it comes the MPG. I am taking weekly pictures of the dashboard of 50-54 MPG. I also fill at the same pump, same results. Mine is a diesel, but it drives like a gas, and contrary to public perception, there is no smoke, no noise, and it has a lot of pickup. I will keep this car until the doors will fall off. The MPG pays off every day...

  • 2006 Jetta TDI Automatic - 2006 Volkswagen Jetta

The more I drive my Jetta, the more I like it. It is a fun car to drive. It handles more like a flat cornering, tight handling sports car, which I like. It isn’t noisy but you can hear the motor purr when accelerating which is fine with me. It has plenty of power for normal driving, cruises easily at 60-70 mph, and accelerates at those speeds. This car never seems to labor at any speed, maybe because of the DSG automatic transmission. This is a 6-speed transmission with a sport mode and a paddle shifter if you desire to shift at your own shift points.

What can I say? My 2006 Volkswagen Jetta 2.5 is much better than all of my previous VWs. I traded in my 03 GTI for it. I bought the 2.5 with Pkg. 1. The car is a blast! Its comfortable, handles snow VERY well, has good get up and go (with the 5-speed manual transmission), and the interior materials are MUCH better than in the past. The trunk is huge, and my neighbors look at me like Im driving a Mercedes. I get stares everywhere I go, Im not sure how they keep saying the cars stying is bland. I like the lines, and the chrome grille area. The leatherette is great, and easy to maintain, and the controls are easy to use - except for that cruise control stalk. this is a great car, especially to lease! I am loving it so far, 3+ months and 3,000 miles into my ownership experience.

Our vehicle has less than 5,000 miles on it and has gotten 43.8 mpg for which we are very pleased. We enjoy driving it, the turbo diesel engine has an excellent response time, it really moves! I highly recommend it for value, fuel economy and just for fun.
