This Year's Model Updates:

Two new trim levels join the Jetta lineup for 2006: the upscale 2.0T and the sporty GLI. Both feature a 200-hp, turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder, and both can be equipped with VW's trick DSG direct shift gearbox. All Jettas besides the Value Edition now feature standard alloy wheels, and torso-protecting rear-seat side airbags are newly optional.

  • Unreliable - 2006 Volkswagen Jetta

I should have known this was a bad car the first time we started it at the dealership. Has always made a horrible sound when first starting. Everyone asks what is wrong with it. Dealer said this was normal for this engine. First 8 months were fine, then the problems began. Trunk would not stay closed, noises in the dash, cooling fans went out, bad spark plugs, bad coils, headliner falling down and headlight covers are cloudy. No more VWs for this family. We are going back to Ford.

  • Great Car...So Far - 2006 Volkswagen Jetta

I have had my 2006 Volkswagen Jetta TDI for three weeks now and am getting a true 43 mpg on the road. Its fit and finish are phenomenal. It seems to be a very well built car. I have no complaints yet.

  • Great car, saved my life - 2006 Volkswagen Jetta
    By -

This car saved my life from being broadsided at 40 mph by a much heavier car, so the structural build quality and safety features (b-pillar, side curtain airbags, engine cut-off, etc.) are impressive. Great engine/drivetrain with enough torque to beat most cars off the line and pass on the highway while doing 80+ MPH without downshifting from 5th. Thats with the 5-cyl motor and 5-spd manual Interior very well designed with high quality materials, switches, seats, etc. Very comfortable, firm seats felt great after 10 hour trips. Reliability was great for the 69K miles I owned it. No problems, only sched. maint. & oil changes.

  • Jetta TDI Going strong - 2006 Volkswagen Jetta

I have driven 37500 miles in 16 months. My problems included a 1 hour dealer visit for speedometer and satellite radio software programming and a 1 day visit to correct an airbag fault. That aside, this vehicle has been perfect mechanically and a blast to drive. Lots of torque, 42+ MPG cruising at 80 MPH and great seats. AC is fantastic in southern heat. Oil changes myself in 30 minutes. Elf Synthetic for $5.25/litre and $12 for an oil filter. Even did my rear brakes in 3 hours. Maintenance is easy, like any other new car. The car has a tight build and excellent quality of fit, finish and materials.

  • Gets 44 mpg - 2006 Volkswagen Jetta

I am very happy with this vehicle. I have a combined fuel mileage of 44 mpg. I cant wait until I go to Florida from Ohio and drive the highway. I really think it will get 50 mpg. I am a car guy and I have had many many cars. I have driven classics to a Corvette. This is a great everyday driver. I can average 550 miles per fill up.

  • I Love my TDI - 2006 Volkswagen Jetta

I am currently getting 54 to 58 mpg in my Jetta TDI using bio-diesel. Plus this car is fun to drive and easy to service. I love this car. I am currently looking for another TDI for my grandson.

  • Great Car - 2006 Volkswagen Jetta

As an owner of the previous generation Jetta, I can say without a doubt this is the greatest exectution yet. I shopped the Audi A4 and BMW 325i and while no one can deny their great attributes, my Jetta GLI had something about it that I couldnt resist.

  • 2006 Volkswagen Jetta GLI Stick - 2006 Volkswagen Jetta
    By -

I traded in a 2003 Audi A4 quattro with sports / premium / stick for this Jetta GLI. Amazingly, I dont miss my A4 at all. Its only been a week and its like a distant memory. The new GLI is a huge improvement over the previous model (just like all mark V Jettas). The engine is outstanding - this cars ability to accelerate is extremely impressive, particularly with the manual box. This is the best short-shifter I have used on a vehicle under $40,000. The clutch is smooth and light and the steering wheel is best in the world (under $100,000 at least). I love the sport cloth seats. They are not cold in the winter or sticky in the summer). VW used a high quality fabric, which is very durable. this car has a great MP3 stereo head unit and bi-xenons headlights, too.

  • Good to go - 2006 Volkswagen Jetta

This is a great car. I’ve had my New Jetta 2.5 for just over one month and all has been great. It is a very solid, well built car. It comes with many quality Euro-type features for its class like how the trunk and hood are self opening, all the way up. The trunk makes it great to operate with your hands full. You only need to press the key fob and it opens fully to place your stuff in. The fit and finish are excellent and the handling is very secure. So far, its been a great experience, I would recommend this car.
