This Year's Model Updates:

Two new trim levels join the Jetta lineup for 2006: the upscale 2.0T and the sporty GLI. Both feature a 200-hp, turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder, and both can be equipped with VW's trick DSG direct shift gearbox. All Jettas besides the Value Edition now feature standard alloy wheels, and torso-protecting rear-seat side airbags are newly optional.

  • it all depends on the owner - 2006 Volkswagen Jetta

I had my 06 vw jetta for almost two years now and I can say that i am really satisfied with this german machine. I watched many many reviews on it and I know everything from grille to trunk about the car. Ive read reviews from consumers on here saying that its a money pit but it all depends on the owner of the vehicle. I havent had to many problems with car and I can honestly say it was well worth the price. I would recommand knowing a good vw mechanic rather than going to a vw dealer service for price reasons.

  • Love My Jetta - 2006 Volkswagen Jetta

I Love my Jetta. I bought the TDI Automatic. It is very sporty and peppy. I got almost all of the options you can get on it and love everyone of them. If I had to do it all over again, I would not change a thing. In the first 5,000 miles I have had some problems. I am somewhat disappointed in the quality of the materials used in the vehicle.

  • Not Sure If Ill Get Another V-Dub - 2006 Volkswagen Jetta

First VW to own. 2006 manual GLI package w/leather, XM radio. Fun car to drive but already had problems with it and had it a year. Had 2 months before it started overheating - coolant hose connection problem that kept the fan running after I turned the ignition off, which was depleting the battery. Five months later, another problem with a hose that was making some heavy noise from the engine. Both were fixed by the dealer. Now all of the buttons are starting to peel off (plastic/rubber finish)!? Went to the dealer, have to come back when someone could pull out the radio, find the manufacturer, and order new radio. Dealer oil changes too $$. Took to private shop, told it was burning oil like crazy!

  • Took that Chance and May Now Regret It - 2006 Volkswagen Jetta

Well, Ive owned 35 vehicles, of which 5 were VWs. To me, it seemed VW screwed up with the more recent runs and after two poorly built GTIs (99.5 2.0L & 01 VR6). I said I would NEVER buy another. Well, I had to swallow my pride and pick up one this past summer because of a baby. I sadly traded in my hopped up Mini Cooper S to get something more family oriented. Now I may have made a mistake Ive had my car for 7 months and it only has 4,000 miles on it. All sorts of little fit and finish issues are popping up now and now that cold weather is back, my car doesnt start properly, with that high then low rev. I am a nit-picker but my wifes Hyundai is built much much better! Perhaps I made a mistake!

The 2006 Jetta is a fun car to drive with good handling capabilities. The gas mileage is great compared to my SUV trade in. This is the main reason why I wanted a smaller car. I like the looks and the way the interior is designed. I have the navigation system which is ok. The radio sound system is weak and the satellite radio always seems to loose connection. The wind noise is very lound on the highway you need to really turn up the radio. The front seats are very uncomfortable. There is a bar in the drivers seat that hurts my rear end. This is the biggest negative for me.

  • Great, but not always great - 2006 Volkswagen Jetta
    By -

Let me start by saying this is my favorite new car yet! At the same time, its also the worst. How, you might ask? Well, its had two major mechanical failures in less than 8,500 miles. First to go at 2,100ish miles was the dual mass flywheel. They replaced it under warranty. Next to fail was the chain on the oil pump, which has never happened according to VWoA. This time they replace the entire engine, again under warranty. In short, it has great performance and economy, but I really must question the reliability, both long and short term. The service from the dealership is absolutely top notch, however. I actually feel kind of bad for them having to post this information.

  • Spewing black smoke from exhaust - 2006 Volkswagen Jetta
    By -

I just found this site and noticed someone else has the same issue! I assumed my car was a diesel and would emit black smoke so never panicked. It seemed to get worse so I asked the "simple" question at my dealer. They told me bring it in. Should be a simple hose replacement $150ish. 4 hours later. I come back to find my engine completely apart. The mechanic brings me back and shows me scoring on my fuel injectors and tells me my engine is shot! $7,000 estimate from the dealer to rebuild only the top portion of my engine and I only have 130,000 km on it! I intend to take this to the top.

  • Curts 2006 TDI / DSG - 2006 Volkswagen Jetta

This was my first VW purchase. I test drove new 2003, 2004 & 2005 Jettas but the interior was just too small for my requirements. Besides more room I also wanted the Direct Shift Gearbox (DSG) to go with the PD Diesel engine. When the 2006 New Jetta became available in the spring I was prepared to order, almost. I found that the options I wanted - interior colour and rear seat airbags - werent available until June but then I waited a bit longer due to "build quality" issues. I ordered in late August and took delivery on 28 October but I feel the wait was worth it.

  • Nicely engineered/poorly built - 2006 Volkswagen Jetta
    By -

Ive had the car around 9 months. Its a great road trip car - with the TDI, Ive gotten nearly 700 miles on a tank of fuel. It corners nicely and mileage has been over 40 mpg on every tank. Gets over 50 on highway. Pleased this car even starts up in below zero weather this past winter. The DSG transmission is very nice - the diesel/trans combo is the best part of this car. Trip computer is nice, too. But the stereo stinks for $25k car, little/no sound from front speakers. Also not a fan of the "leatherette" seating surfaces - drivers seat already showing wear at 9,000 miles (and Im only 150 lbs.) Overall, my 01 wolfsburg was more fun, but equally unreliable. Why do I keep buying VWs?

  • TDI and loving it - 2006 Volkswagen Jetta
    By -

Have almost 100k on this car. Its been very reliable, with only a few minor repairs here and there. Just had the timing belt changed (which has to be done at 105k miles). Im expecting to drive this for at least another 100k!
