Overview & Reviews
Two new trim levels join the Jetta lineup for 2006: the upscale 2.0T and the sporty GLI. Both feature a 200-hp, turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder, and both can be equipped with VW's trick DSG direct shift gearbox. All Jettas besides the Value Edition now feature standard alloy wheels, and torso-protecting rear-seat side airbags are newly optional.

What a Great Automobile! - 2006 Volkswagen Jetta
By Steve - January 16 - 9:16 amHaving had two Audis with little luck, I purchased my 2006 Jetta TDI with a bit of hesitation. However I loved the new design and the diesel mileage. I have had the Jetta for two months now and am thoroughly impressed with it in all respects - ride, leg room, fuel economy [43-54mpg], color [exterior- seafoam; interior-beige leather]. It has the amenities of the Audis without the issues. The ride is great, it has lots of safety features, a plush interior and the design is perfect. Id looked at standard cars - Nissan, Toyota, Honda, Suburu - both hybrids and gasoline for a couple of months but could not settle for any of them. When I saw the new Jetta I knew immediately that was the car. Try it!

Awesome Car - 2006 Volkswagen Jetta
By coolb944 - January 13 - 5:23 amI have to disagree with all the bad press this car has been getting. The car, for one, does not look Japanese in anyway. It looks very European, and very Germanic, especially in the Reflex Silver I have. Every time I look at it, I think, "Wow, it really does look like a $30,000 car, and drives like it for that matter." The engine is smooth and torquey, unlike the reports Ive read, with an I6 sound, and the clutch is light and easy to use, but still has enough feel to put it on the sporty side. The handling feels great to me, although I havent had the chance to really push it. It feels very tied down, though, with great solidity of structure and a very buttoned down highway ride.

Best car Ive owned - 2006 Volkswagen Jetta
By Would buy another! - January 12 - 1:26 pmI bought this car in March of 2006 in Anchorage for touring around the state, and we love this car. In 4 years, we performed the recommended maintenance and put fuel in it, with no issues! Driving around 55-60 mph on the highways around Anchorage, we averaged 47-50 mpg. When we shipped it to Seattle and then drove it back to Texas, we average 48 mpg at 75 mph and then 46 mpg at 80-85 mph (on I-10 through West Texas). I made it from Gilbert, AZ to Fort Stockton, TX on a single tank of fuel driving 80 mph most of the way!

Jetta has been good to me - 2006 Volkswagen Jetta
By kkempskie - December 29 - 9:53 pmMy 2nd Jetta and 4th VW. Love the tight feel and handling of this Jetta more than my past 98 Cabrio, 00 Jetta and 85 GTI. Drives awesome and even good in snow. Wish mileage was a little better, but its not bad. The std options w/ my model are sweet (pwr snrf, AC, leather, pwr evythg). Always felt the build & finish were fine; knobs are sturdy, glove box doesnt break in winter (like my 00 did) and window clips are sturdy. $80 oil changes at dlr are a drag, yes, but skip those when u can at Jiffylube! All in all a great car w/ good looks, features. will cost a bit more at tune-up times ($700+ at 40K) but well worth the fun of driving this daily.

A Sports Car that Gets 40 MPG - 2006 Volkswagen Jetta
By E collins - December 27 - 6:26 amI have put 3,000 miles on this car so far. It handles like the MGB that I had in college but it gets outstanding fuel mileage. It is comfortable and fun to drive. I have already taken two long trips and it is more comfortable than my Olds 88. The trunk is huge. It has a "real" spare tire! Things to watch include the speedometer is not correct (a European thing) and there are side blind spots. Other than that, it is perfect.

Great so far - 2006 Volkswagen Jetta
By Lore - December 21 - 8:00 pmHad the car for about a week now and no issues. I had a pebble stuck under the car and it made a weird noise for a few minutes, but now its gone. The ride is smooth and excellent. I like the handling of the manual transmission. The interior is very nice and comfortable for passengers. The sound system is pretty good. Its got a whole lot of features you normally wouldnt get from a car at this price. Exterior window movement, heated side mirrors, diffuser climate control, rear vents, etc. Just a blast to drive, fun car but has a look of style.

06 TDI manual with pkg 2 - 2006 Volkswagen Jetta
By Ernie - December 8 - 6:53 pmI have 40000 miles on my 06 TDI now and have been averaging 42 miles per gallon. Thus far the vehicle has not had any major breakdowns as did my 04 TDI. The 06 is a major improvement over the 04 in many ways, reliability thus far, and namely the interior room was a vast improvement over the 04. The car is comfortable to drive on trips considering it is a smaller vehicle. It has a solid feel on the road and is quiet considering it is a diesel. I am reluctant about the reliability, due to my experience with the 04 TDI but so far this 06 has stayed out of the shop except for routine maintenance. The 06 is peppy but does not have the snap that the 04 did. Good car.

Lovin the V DUB - 2006 Volkswagen Jetta
By Beav - November 27 - 11:06 pmThis is my second VW and Im very impressed with the looks, performance, and features in my perffecta model Jetta. It was a great value at a total of $21,000 (including $4000 off because it was last years model) with Sirius, 6 disc cd changer, alloy wheels, euro style lights, spoiler and leather seats, plus the dealer added heated seats and a sunroof. It drives very smooth and handles well, and can very easily reach high speeds without realizing it. I drive it 100 miles for work every day, and drove it on vacation for 12 hours, with 3 people in it, and it is pretty comfortable to ride in.
