This Year's Model Updates:

Two new trim levels join the Jetta lineup for 2006: the upscale 2.0T and the sporty GLI. Both feature a 200-hp, turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder, and both can be equipped with VW's trick DSG direct shift gearbox. All Jettas besides the Value Edition now feature standard alloy wheels, and torso-protecting rear-seat side airbags are newly optional.

  • Worst Car weve ever had! Avoid it like the plague - 2006 Volkswagen Jetta

We were excited to get a TDI. Diesel engines are supposed to last a long time. We were told by the salesperson "this is a 400,000 mile engine." Maintenance is horrible and costs an arm and a leg. At five years and 83,000 miles the well known cam shaft and lifters failure occurred costing us $4000 to repair. Even though its a well known problem VW of America said "there are no recalls on it and youre out of warranty." Less than 2000 miles after the they replaced half the engine it died again and they say "oh the turbo is dead" and it has nothing to do with the last repair - that will be $3000. Just to get it working enough to trade it in has cost us 2/3 of what the car is worth.

  • UT-O - Bad Brakes - 2006 Volkswagen Jetta

This car was purchased for my mother (06 Value 4dr Auto) and at 1,500 miles the brakes went soft. The dealer replaced the calipers and master cylinder and had mom pick up the car. It was not fixed. The brakes went to the floor. I brought the car back and it has been nine days now. The 1st loaner car was nice but the 2nd is an older dumpy Suzuki with a smelly interior. I am curious to see if the dealer or VW will fix moms car. I was told that they would replace the entire brake system. We shall see.

  • Great Car - 2006 Volkswagen Jetta

My 2006 Jetta TDI gets amazing gas mileage and is a fun car to drive, however - having driven stick shift my whole life, Ive never had a car come out of first gear with as much difficulty as this one.

  • Good but not Great - 2006 Volkswagen Jetta

I leased this vehicle to take advantage of the mileage in repetitive crosstown commuting. I have not been disappointed in this respect, avg 34mpg. Several areas have been disappointing. The auto transmission mother board quit functioning at about 2000 mi. Took 3 weeks to get one shipped from Germany. The tan leather seat dye rubs off easily. Replaced driver seat 3 times, finally gave up. The AM section of the radio is very weak. Dealer checked and cant find any problems. 50,000 watt stations fade in and out. Access to front seat difficult with driver seat in position to allow my 6 245 lb body to drive. The center post is too far forward. Visibility poor, large blind spots.

  • TDI is missed - 2006 Volkswagen Jetta

I bought the TDI last June after having to stop at the pumps 3 times/week with my Infiniti G35 coupe with my sales career. I was reluctant to get the VW but afterwards I was very, very happy with the MPGs. averaged 36-42 but topped out over 50 mpg on a few occasions. (including the one where I took it to trade it in). I did just trade it in on a FJ Cruiser because I am starting a company where I need more room to haul equipment and also something to pull my boat. While the FJ is averaging around 20 mpg (good for suv), it is no TDI. I definitely already miss my VW but I do not miss having to fill up at the diesel tanks then having to go inside of store to pay for diesel.

  • My GLI is a Super Sports Sedan! - 2006 Volkswagen Jetta

This car is absolutely a BLAST to drive! I just picked it up last week and I am actually getting up early and taking a longer route to work in the morning! Im still breaking it in so I havent really opened it up yet, but the 2.0 FSI engine is flat out the best four-banger that Volkswagen has ever produced. There is absolutely NO turbo lag and it pulls strongly from below 2,000 RPM, even in the higher gears. The gearbox has nicely-spaced ratios and shifts easily. The suspension is firm but not overly stiff, and the steering is perfectly weighted, with excellent path accuracy and crisp, precise turn-in. This car is an incredible value for an entry-level sports sedan!

  • Awesome - 2006 Volkswagen Jetta

Ive only had my TDI for a week now, and Ive filled the tank twice, not because I needed to, but because I was curious what the milage was. Both times I was over 45 MPG. When I test drove the car they had me enter a highway so I could get a sense of the cars high speed attributes. Before I even left the on ramp I was traveling fast and knew then Id buy the car. Its nimble, agile, and a joy to drive.

  • This car is HOT - 2006 Volkswagen Jetta

The 2006 Volkswagen Jetta GLI does a great job of mixing a "responsible" 4-door sedan with a fast, sporty car. This is my second VW Jetta, the last being a 2002 1.8T. The redesign on the Jetta was superb, although the 2.5 I test drove didnt have enough pickup for me. The GLI did the trick, and then some. This car is FAST, and I love to drive it! I love that it is a 6-speed, too--not that I ever have much occassion to get there. But it is a heck of a lot of fun! VW makes a quality car and Im a customer for life.

  • Love the Car and the PRICE! - 2006 Volkswagen Jetta

I test drove a 2006 Jetta Value Edition 2.5 and the Volvo S40 on the same day. There is a huge difference in price, but very little difference in features and ride. I love my Jetta - I bought it TODAY. Talk about a headturner. The manual transmission has some pep, and the traction control and airbags make it the perfect snow driver.

  • 2006 Jetta TDI - 2006 Volkswagen Jetta

The Jetta TDI handles very well. I like the ease in steering and the cornering ability. The trunk capacity was a factor in my purchase decision. The quality of materials and construction is most impressive. Also, we are pleased with the safety features such as the airbags.
