This Year's Model Updates:

Two new trim levels join the Jetta lineup for 2006: the upscale 2.0T and the sporty GLI. Both feature a 200-hp, turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder, and both can be equipped with VW's trick DSG direct shift gearbox. All Jettas besides the Value Edition now feature standard alloy wheels, and torso-protecting rear-seat side airbags are newly optional.

  • Great, but not always great - 2006 Volkswagen Jetta
    By -

Let me start by saying this is my favorite new car yet! At the same time, its also the worst. How, you might ask? Well, its had two major mechanical failures in less than 8,500 miles. First to go at 2,100ish miles was the dual mass flywheel. They replaced it under warranty. Next to fail was the chain on the oil pump, which has never happened according to VWoA. This time they replace the entire engine, again under warranty. In short, it has great performance and economy, but I really must question the reliability, both long and short term. The service from the dealership is absolutely top notch, however. I actually feel kind of bad for them having to post this information.

The Volkswagen Jetta TDI is an all round fantastic car to drive. It delivers amazing preformance for a small 100 HP engine and you have loads of power at highway speeds! Plus the great added space in the back seats and truck make life that much easier compared to older year models of the Jetta.

  • Best Jetta Yet! - 2006 Volkswagen Jetta
    By -

I have had many VWs in the past and the 2006 Volkswagen Jetta 2.5 is by far the best Jetta yet. I came from a Golf TDI and was weary of going back to a gas enginem but so far it is a great, solid engine. Its gas mileage is comparable to previous models, which is impresive since the 06 Jetta is more powerful and a bigger car. I will reccomend this vehicle to everyone.

I am really happy with my VW Jetta. It handles great in the snow and I feel very safe driving it. It could get better gas milage but all in all I would recommend this car to anyone. Once you drive it youll never want anything else.

  • The BEST Car Ever - 2006 Volkswagen Jetta
    By -

Every day I spend with my 2006 Volkswagen Jetta GLI, the more I love it! It is an absolutely awesome vehicle any way I look at it. Not only is it amazingly safe (the first car ever to get a 100 in the side impact crash test, and the first car ever to receive a good rating in every single category), its also very economical, fun, luxurious and sporty. I cant think of anything that VW left out that you could want in a car. You get so much for your money...beautiful interior (both leather and cloth are unique), spunky rims, 6 disc CD changer, a superior engine, power everything, steering wheel controls, and all this comes standard! The new huge and automatic trunk is also very convenient.

  • Love this car - 2006 Volkswagen Jetta

I looked at every make in this price range and nothing came close to the fun factor, standard equipment, right size, and build quality of the Jetta. I havent owned a VW since high school (many many years ago) but love this car like the old VW Beetle that I had then.

  • Spewing black smoke from exhaust - 2006 Volkswagen Jetta
    By -

I just found this site and noticed someone else has the same issue! I assumed my car was a diesel and would emit black smoke so never panicked. It seemed to get worse so I asked the "simple" question at my dealer. They told me bring it in. Should be a simple hose replacement $150ish. 4 hours later. I come back to find my engine completely apart. The mechanic brings me back and shows me scoring on my fuel injectors and tells me my engine is shot! $7,000 estimate from the dealer to rebuild only the top portion of my engine and I only have 130,000 km on it! I intend to take this to the top.

  • Excellent Car - 2006 Volkswagen Jetta
    By -

I love this car. I had a 2002 Jetta, but outgrew it and did not like the cup holders on top of the radio which managed to get everything wet. Also, there was no room in the backseats and in the end the car had engine problems even after I had taken the car in twice to be repaired. I feel that the 2006 is more sophisticated on the outside and inside and roomier. It also has much better cup holders and other features plus more room in the back . It has better handling, a smoother, more solid ride, and a more powerful engine, even in the 2.5 trim. It is just a more "grown-up" car all around.

  • Curts 2006 TDI / DSG - 2006 Volkswagen Jetta
    By -

This was my first VW purchase. I test drove new 2003, 2004 & 2005 Jettas but the interior was just too small for my requirements. Besides more room I also wanted the Direct Shift Gearbox (DSG) to go with the PD Diesel engine. When the 2006 New Jetta became available in the spring I was prepared to order, almost. I found that the options I wanted - interior colour and rear seat airbags - werent available until June but then I waited a bit longer due to "build quality" issues. I ordered in late August and took delivery on 28 October but I feel the wait was worth it.

  • Problems since Day 1 - 2006 Volkswagen Jetta
    By -

I bought my VW jetta 2.5 in September of 2006, it only had 85 miles on it from one dealership to mine. The second day driving I heard the brakes squeaking. So I told the dealership and they checked the breaks saying nothing was wrong. The noise continued and progressively became worse to the point where my brakes were grinding, so they replaced the brakes as a one time good will replacement. Since then the problem has continued and Ive had my brakes replaced 4 times, the last time I had to pay 400 dollars later. My brakes still squeak and grind. The car is great except for the constant brake change and gas mileage which goes down once you go over 70 mph.
