This Year's Model Updates:

Jaguar beefs up its presence in the luxury category with the X-Type, a brand-new model that brings the company's range to four. The X-Type is a fresh breed of cat for the manufacturer: it's Jaguar's first-ever all-wheel-drive vehicle, and it's priced to tap the entry-luxury segment.

Pros:
  • Reasonable pricing, sporty handling, currently the only Jaguar available with a manual tranny.
Cons:
  • Spartan interior design, some less-than-prestigious Ford-themed switchgear and exterior styling cues, price goes up with options faster than you can say "Ford Mondeo."

  • Fun to Drive - 2002 Jaguar X-Type

This vehicle was the second one that I ordered. The first one had the sport suspension and 17 inch wheels. I felt there was too much noise and vibration from the combination and opted to reorder. I bought the non sport version, 5 speed, it is a lot of fun to drive and significantly more comfortable. This car is awesome. The car handles great through backroads and tight turns and did great in the snow storms. A friend who has taken high speed driving and handling courses for work drove it and couldnt believe the grip the AWD had on the road at the speeds we cornered. Over all, Im very satisfied.

I recently bought the 3.0 model and have put 2000 miles on the car already. So far the car has been flawless. I havent had the whining drivetrain problem that others have experienced. This car gets looks wherever I go. I recently drove it home on an icy michigan night when other cars (about 20)were in the ditch my AWD jag just kept on going and got me home safe and sound. I absolutely recommend this car to anyone lookin for a classy and practical car.

The car was in the shop for 10 mechanical defects, trans, compressor, drive shaft, power steering rack, steering column. Vent grids came off, headlight washers came off. The dealer tells me they are swamped with this car for repairs. It was bought back by Jag. BEWARE!!!!!

  • X-Type, A Great Breed of New Cat - 2002 Jaguar X-Type

Great little preformer. Handles like a sports car but is comfortable enough to compete as a luxury car. It is a large departure from other Jaguar models. This one should be considered if you are looking at competing models from Audi, BMW or Mercedes. You wont be disappointed.

Great car. After six months, no problems, runs great, a lot of fun to drive. Holds the road like a cat, as it should. I look forward to the R version.

  • 2002 - bad year for X-Type - 2002 Jaguar X-Type

The Jaguar X-Type I purchased had only 2000 miles on it when purchased. The dealer was excellent, however my car was in the shop for repair numerous times. Transmission rebuilt at 45000 miles, starter and alternator replaced at the same mileage. The rear axle had to replaced, at my own expense at a cost of $1000.00, because of sensor issue at 60000 miles. I had to superglue vent cover down on dash, sensor lights keep coming on, poor gas mileage, avg. 20 mpg. I would not recommend this brand to anyone.

  • Outstanding value when purchased used - 2002 Jaguar X-Type

I did a lot of research before deciding on this car, a mint 2002 X-Type 2.5 Automatic in Carnival Red. I had wanted an entry-luxury car to handle my long daily commute and I looked at BMW, Mercedes, Saab, Infiniti, etc. I was drawn to this cars great looks and the comments I get from others confirm that. I knew of Jaguars dubious history of poor reliability and also read many of the lukewarm and even negative reviews. I am very pleased with this car. It is an amazing value on the used market. I can understand that some who bought new may be a little underwhelmed because of the price. But at the price I paid this car is a steal. I was able to add an extended warranty.
