This Year's Model Updates:

Jaguar beefs up its presence in the luxury category with the X-Type, a brand-new model that brings the company's range to four. The X-Type is a fresh breed of cat for the manufacturer: it's Jaguar's first-ever all-wheel-drive vehicle, and it's priced to tap the entry-luxury segment.

Pros:
  • Reasonable pricing, sporty handling, currently the only Jaguar available with a manual tranny.
Cons:
  • Spartan interior design, some less-than-prestigious Ford-themed switchgear and exterior styling cues, price goes up with options faster than you can say "Ford Mondeo."

ITS THE BEST CAR FOR THE PRICE.

  • The Editors Dont Get It - 2002 Jaguar X-Type

Excellent all around vehicle. Will outclass, outrun, outperform the German cars in its class in any road condition, any weather. I know. I have two other German marques that are useless with the slight pour of rain or snow. Not for the masses. Purrfect car for the Northeast. I really dont care what editors say. Excellent dealer service too.

  • DONT BELIEVE - 2002 Jaguar X-Type

I was shocked to read the review entitled, "Do you like your wallet? By Style, not substance." Anyone who knows their Jags knows that Ford bought Jaguar around 1985, and ever since that, the cars have been extremely reliable. Therefore, I do not understand their "but the reliability on long commutes would worry me a great deal." Also, they say BMW is a much better choice, which is by opinion only. For anyone considering this car, or just bought it, you chose wisely. I am very pleased; my last car was an XJ Vanden Plas Sedan. This car is much more entertaining to drive, and not too "starched." Nevertheless, this is a JAGUAR.

  • Great design. Quality needs improvement - 2002 Jaguar X-Type

Love the design. Great nav. Uncomfortable seats. Small problems here and there. Fuel caps doesnt open sometimes. CD changes has stoped working. I only have 27000 miles and I have experienced 5 problems so far. Still fun to drive but fun to own. Will I buy it again...Nope.

  • Great pre-owned car for the modest price - 2002 Jaguar X-Type

The Jaguar X-type 3.0 Sport is an excellent vehicle. Good gas mileage great entry level comfort and a very sexy appearance that could only come from Jaguar. Incredible pre-owned value for all those whove always wanted to own a Jag but couldnt fit it into their budget. The key to owning a reliable, pleasurable, fun to drive, X-type is to purchase a pre-owned one that is still under factory warranty, take it directly to your local Jag dealership, and have the maintenance department verify or carry out all the service bulletin upgrades, recalls and repairs which will be free of charge. After all services and repairs are complete take you vehicle home drive it and enjoy.

  • Jag, baby, yea!!!..This cat roars! - 2002 Jaguar X-Type

I always wanted to own a Jag and it has been a dream come true. I test drove the 3 series BMW, and Audi 4, Mercedes C320 basically all the models in the price range and the interior was nothing to compare against the Jag.The car is excellent. I guess you can always be unlucky and get a lemon with any make of car, like some of the reviews here have been. Well worth checking this car out if you are buying a car in the 29k to 35k dollar range.Everyone will think you purchased a $50k plus car. Let them!!

  • Mechanically a disgrace! - 2002 Jaguar X-Type
    By -

I have owned this car for 7 months. It went back to the shop under warranty 5 times in less than two months. The transmission still shifts ruff after having the control module reset twice. I have had to replace the drive shaft at an expense of $883.00 and now I have to have the power steering hose replaced at a cost of $489.00. The warranty ran out last month and these expenses have been incurred within less than a month of that!!!! What a piece of junk!!!! Oh I forgot that the vent covers on top of the dash pop up when the temp outside changes and I finally supper glued them down. I will not buy another.

  • X Type surprise - 2002 Jaguar X-Type

The x-type holds the road beautifully. You can corner at high rates of speed without a problem. Ive never experienced engine braking like this car. The only real negative is that the 2.5 L is fairly sluggish in traffic. It could definetely use more pep. the gas mileage is around 21 mpg. Not bad.

  • 2002 X-Type 3.0 Sport - 2002 Jaguar X-Type

I just purchased a 2002 X-Type 3.0 Sport and am grateful I did. I love driving this car! It has the firm, sports-car oriented driving style that I like in a car. I love driving this car far more than my 02 330i. The car is a head turner. Watch out though for possible electrical problems. I have already had a window regulator go out on the back window. Overall, I would buy this car again and again.

  • Its Nice Being the New Kid on the Block - 2002 Jaguar X-Type

I bought my X-Type 3.0 Sport 2/02 and had problems including driveshaft whining, leaky washers, and "rocking" seats. New vehicles regardless of manufacturer often have minor hiccups within the first couple thousand miles. What it boils down to is your local dealer and their service department. Mine fixed all problems quickly the first time. I would rather be driving a car that is different and in my opinion, more fun, than all those Audis and BMWs out there. Ive ridden in plenty A4s, S4s, A6s and 3 series, and although they are still "fun", the novelty just isnt there. BTW, my friend has burned 2 turbos on his S4 and anothers new A4 3.0 bounces like a pogo stick on the freeway.
