This Year's Model Updates:

Jaguar beefs up its presence in the luxury category with the X-Type, a brand-new model that brings the company's range to four. The X-Type is a fresh breed of cat for the manufacturer: it's Jaguar's first-ever all-wheel-drive vehicle, and it's priced to tap the entry-luxury segment.

Pros:
  • Reasonable pricing, sporty handling, currently the only Jaguar available with a manual tranny.
Cons:
  • Spartan interior design, some less-than-prestigious Ford-themed switchgear and exterior styling cues, price goes up with options faster than you can say "Ford Mondeo."

I have only had my jag for 3 months, and within the 1st week, the driver door lock failed allowing me no access. Never use the emergency brake. dont even touch it, because you will have a annoying loud clunking under the car for about 2 days until it wiggles it way back into place. Dont expect your car to start either. Fuel pump replaced at 29000 miles. Many other problems, seats recline on own when away from car, air bag failure light comes on and off. Wiper hoses dissconnect, seat stablizers loosen easily, crome worn out before 30,000. Still cant figure out how to get vent feature on a/c system.Im selling at 32,000 before i cant get my money back.

  • Baby, its cold outside - 2002 Jaguar X-Type

I love driving my new jag. Having come up from a taurus sho, it handles better, has better performance and is a joy. My biggest complaint however, is the low outside temperature message that comes on each and every time I turn on the car, and wont go away until I hit reset. For goodness sake, I live in Michigan, I know its cold in January.

  • Hit Or Miss Car - 2002 Jaguar X-Type

I have owned 2 3.0 Liter X Types. One was great, only a few minor problems in 2 years. This sport model I have now is a lemon. Constant new noises, died 2 times for who knows what, and has probably been in the shop 10 times for maintenance. Good thing I have a warranty. To top it off, the car loses its value faster than anything Ive seen on this planet. All European cars are finicky, its really hit or miss. If you want these cars, get a warranty.

  • True Blue but often Yellow - 2002 Jaguar X-Type

It was the best of cars, it was the worst of cars. After almost 5 years I still love this car. But the fun of driving a X-Type Sport 2.5 quickly wore thin after returning the car for service and repairs more often than I can remember. I kept all of the records but I dont think that I will keep them in the car when I go to try to sell it because I dont want anyone to see how many times the car has needed repair.

  • X-type 3.0 5 speed only way 2 go in x- - 2002 Jaguar X-Type

Only reasons I bought this car was 5 speed manual, 4 wheel drive, back seats go down,30mls per gallon on hwy.6.6secs 0-60.Car looks good and handles great also.Snowboards, skis, dog, hockey equipment goes in back with seats down.Car is great in the snow. The car is at home at the soccer field, grocery store, ski trip to the snowy mountains, fun to drive, but so refined to visit a client or take your significant other to the best shows and restaurants in town.Navigation touch screen a must.Problems: fuel pump went they fixed right away , Front driver seat rocks a little. Otherwise very happy.

Fast, furious and safe. The car is incredibly smooth and takes turns outstandingly. I had to make a very quick stop from 40 mph to zero and the car hugged the road and kept its balance. Tight back seat, but can get four sets of golf clubs in the trunk.

  • Excellent experience overall - 2002 Jaguar X-Type

Ive owned my 2002 over a year now. Overall its been excellent, improving with age, and very solid on the road. A few minor issues that were cleared up in no time at the dealer, just trivial things as with any new car. Car is wonderful to drive, with the 5 spd manual and sport package, has plenty of power for everyday use and feels very solid. Wonderful for long distance trips. Gas mileage has gotten way better over time, from the low 20s to the high 20s by now, almost 30. The upgraded audio package is great. Overall ownership has been wonderful.

  • Fun Jag - 2002 Jaguar X-Type

My experience with my x-type started out poor with my Jag locked away in the shop for two weeks because of sound coming from Drive shaft. What we all found out was the prop shaft has bearings that were exposed to salt air which caused the vechile to make a loud noise when reving about 2500 RPM in cold weather. The problem was fixed and the car rides great,it has a growl with the dual exhaust, but the car is quick. The exterior look it great, and it rides like a true sports car with the AWD their is a degree of confidence. I would recommend the all weather package and Premium package for those areas that need it. I love driving the car and would buy it again.

  • Its fun..............now - 2002 Jaguar X-Type

As I write this review I finally have my car back from 2 weeks in the shop. This was my fourth visit lasting 2 or more days over the past 6 months. Clearly disappointing and unacceptable. Most people I know questioned my decision to buy a jag based on quality but I told them that was the "old Jaguar". This story seems to have a HAPPY ENDING.... When I drove my car home last night (after having a new transmission computer installed?) I honestly thought I was driving a completely different vehicle. It was quiet, responsive, shifting smooth as silk, in short... A BLAST TO DRIVE!

Will keep this short & sweet. Build quality is great, performace is more than adequate. Its a fun car to drive with just enough mix of luxury and sportiness to make it interesting. Would highly recommend.
