This Year's Model Updates:

Jaguar beefs up its presence in the luxury category with the X-Type, a brand-new model that brings the company's range to four. The X-Type is a fresh breed of cat for the manufacturer: it's Jaguar's first-ever all-wheel-drive vehicle, and it's priced to tap the entry-luxury segment.

Pros:
  • Reasonable pricing, sporty handling, currently the only Jaguar available with a manual tranny.
Cons:
  • Spartan interior design, some less-than-prestigious Ford-themed switchgear and exterior styling cues, price goes up with options faster than you can say "Ford Mondeo."

  • Wow!!!!!! - 2002 Jaguar X-Type

I was looking at a pre-owned Jaguar S- Type at the local (Orlando) BMW Dealership but did not like the snooty attitude of the salesperson. I called the Jaguar Dealership in Miami and worked out a deal over the phone for a brand new X-Type 3.0 Sport. I traded in my 2002 VW Beetle turbo with 800 miles on it. I absolutely LOVE my Jaguar. I am a Jaguar owner for life!!!

  • The 3.0 Manual is the Ultimate Jag - 2002 Jaguar X-Type

This car defines sporty luxury. It is sleek, powerful, refined, fun to drive and perfectly balanced (can you say "become one with the car"?). I have yet to approach the handling or performance limits of the 3 liter/manual combination. But I can tell you that this car is truly fast and very tossable when you want it to be. And the AWD provides remarkable and reassuring traction, especially in the rain. Combine such performance with the Jags beatiful form inside and out, and its clearly the class act of luxury performance cars.

  • best in its class - 2002 Jaguar X-Type

Bought this car recently for my wife. the car runs great and 4WD is just as good as the ones on the A4s (another great car) but if you are not a performance oriented person (like my wife) and you are looking for that classy, sophisticated yet stylish look, then the x-type is it! no one believe this car is under 40K USD!! and yes ive heard plenty about people having problems about thieir x-type, im greatful that is not the case for me. so far the car is running great and black ext. black int. gives it an aggressive look. if you love the sporty feel then u should check out the A4. dont fall for the bmw 3s unless u can afford a M3.

Jaguar, or Ford, whichever one suits or thrills you, produced a winner! Its true that the X Type is not a BMW but, if you need to compare it to a BMW then just go buy one. The car has its minor comparative faults but its biggest fault is a driver who has nothing to do but compare it to something else. The interior is not "Spartan," it is very conservatively sleek and pleasing. The rear seat room is a bit cramped but this is not a family vehicle or a taxi. The X Type holds the road well and is great in curves. The bottom line is that it is nice. Test drive it and if "you" like it, ignore those who dont.

Purchased the x-type with high expectations. Boy was I dissappointed! The car that I bought gave me a "Gear Box Fault" to which there was no explanation in the manual. Took the car to be serviced and was given another x-type as a loaner. That was over a month and a half ago! Oh yeah, did I mention that the loaner car just gave me a "Gear Box Fault". This was not to mention that my car had already been serviced twice for the moonroof and once for poor weather stripping.

  • Amazing car for the price - 2002 Jaguar X-Type

I have owned my jaguar x-type (sport, lowered, 3.0, manual) for about 8 months and 12k miles. I have never been let down once with this car (even with 120k miles,) although other reviewers will say different. The only trick with this car is that it doesnt like to be abused. If you keep everything maintained via recommendations on forums and not the dealership, everything will continue to run smoothly.

I bought my jaguar a year ago used from a hometown dealer. The car only had one previous owner and was bought with 78k miles. i was so excited about my new car and i looked great driving it. The car was such a beauty. i later found out that beauty isnt everything when within the first year of owning this vehicle Ive had to replace the starter, water pump and transmission. this car has cost me 7k, almost more than its worth. i guess its a lesson learned. Im writing this review to help anyone anyway i can.

  • Baby Jag Thrill to Drive - 2002 Jaguar X-Type

This JAG 3.0L is a thrill to drive. AWD provides safety, and the 3.0L automatic provides more than enough power. While driving at VERY high speed, everyone in the car feels very SAFE. Id recommend the 3.0L, not the 2.5L. Stick with the auto transmission and enjoy the J-gate automatic to control the gears, particularly when slowing down for freeway offramps. I love this car.

  • Driving Xcellence - 2002 Jaguar X-Type

This Jag is the perfect blend of luxury, sport, and family practicality. It is art on wheels and you dont see one around every corner like a BMW or MB. Dont listen to the reviews that complain about its relationship to Ford. This car is pure Jaguar. It looks and feels like a $50,000 car, but lay off the options and it wont cost you any more than the SUVs and minivans your friends are buying!

  • Overall Great Car - 2002 Jaguar X-Type

I bought my X-Type used a little over two years ago. I have loved every minute of it. I have not had any reliability issues with the car at all. I have only had it in to the dealer for routine service. Also, the 2.5L V6 has more than enough power for daily driving. Before I bought the car, I had read several reviews stating that the car was underpowered. Unless youre buying this car to do drag racing, this is not the case. I find it has as much, or even more power than my last car - a Infiniti I35 with a 3.5L V6. The X-Types AWD system also has a leg up on the BMW 325xi. This is a great car for the price!
