This Year's Model Updates:

For the 2006 Toyota Avalon, the availability of stability control has been expanded to include the XL and Touring trim levels. Keyless startup is now standard, rather than optional, on the Limited.

Pros:
  • Carefully constructed cabin worthy of the Lexus name, powerful and fuel-efficient V6 engine, serene ride quality, huge rear seat, numerous upscale amenities.
Cons:
  • Refined nature leaves little room for personality, rear seats do not fold.

  • Very Bad in The Snow - 2006 Toyota Avalon
    By -

I really liked my new Avalon until it snowed. The traction control keeps me from going up any kind of steeper hills!! I was not able to get up a slight grade near my church because once the front tires started slipping the traction control shut off all power. I have never experienced anything like that. The dealership says I cannot turn off the traction control device, which leads me to believe Ill go back to driving my old Lincoln in the winter, which I gave to my son too early!

This is the best car Ive ever owned. I still have problems in telling the difference from my 05 Limited, and many models of the Lexus. Actually, I think it looks much better. At 65, Ive never before been able to sit in and drive a car with a sunroof. I can sit in this car with several inches to spare.

I believe the GPS system needs improvement (simpler). The drivers seat with its heating/cooling system is not as comfortable as the same seat in my Camry without those features. All in all, I am very pleased with the car.

  • Seats Cause Pain - 2006 Toyota Avalon
    By -

The seats caused excruciating low back pain. Had to sell the vehicle after only driving it 4 times. Car felt comfortable during short test drive, but once driven 30 miles, it started feeling like I was sitting on concrete. Never had a car seat cause back problems. Seats are poorly designed and too firm. Dont buy if you have ever had back problems. Interior looks luxurious, but it is not. It was my second Avalon and the last Toyota I will ever buy.

  • A lot of car for the money - 2006 Toyota Avalon

Fun to drive and seems so far to be reliable. Many favorable comments from friends pertaining to roominess and comfort. We wanted a car that would be as good as our 93 Grand Marquis. I believe we have found it.

  • A few problems - 2006 Toyota Avalon
    By -

Im really surprised at this car. It looked great, and the professional reviews were AWESOME. But Ive had problems -- lots of minor ones. I wonder if the magazine reviewers get specially prepped cars from Toyota? My Avy has transmission hesitation, a few squeaks and the front windshield now that it is cold CAN NOT stay free of ice or snow. In Iowa, thats a BIG problem. I find the front seats uncomfortable for longer trips. The back seats are nicer.

  • Outstanding automobile value - 2006 Toyota Avalon
    By -

Car is great to drive. Very comfortable, lots of leg room (even in the back seat), plenty of power, extremely quiet (almost eerily so). Even at speeds above 70 mph on the highway, it delivers nearly 32 mpg. I think that is outstanding. I would like to have a 6 or 8 way power passenger seat (instead of the 4 way - I want more adjustment), and the radio should have automatic volume adjustment as the noise in the car increases.

  • Love My Limited - 2006 Toyota Avalon
    By -

30 mpg avg 75 mph for 12 hrs, very comfortable, great interior, exterior growing on me. Nav system little complicated, but that may be just me. Dont care for laser cruise control, but easy to turn off laser feature. Overall great car and previous was an S mercedes, like this better (also 50000 less!).

  • A wonderful Ride - 2006 Toyota Avalon
    By -

When I was looking for a car I was told to get something with a little class and luxury. The 2006 Toyota Avalon, with its heated leather seats and dual temperature controls as well as its beautiful interior as well as exterior fits the bill to a tee. When it comes to comfort the avalon gives a comfortable ride no matter where you sit in the vehicle. I love my Avalon.
