This Year's Model Updates:

The 2.5 RS now has drive-by-wire electronic throttle control and a new four-speed automatic transmission. The dashboard center stack/console has been redesigned with improved cupholders and fancier metallic trim. The 2.5 RS wagon, which boasts the RS sedan's upgraded suspension tuning, alloy wheels and sport seats, has replaced last year's 2.5 TS wagon. The WRX picks up automatic climate control, redesigned alloy wheels and body-color ground effects. Smoke-tinted headlight lenses and revised exterior colors round out the changes.

Pros:
  • A stout 227 horsepower in the WRX, all-wheel-drive grip, a variety of sedans and wagons to choose from, fun to drive.
Cons:
  • Tight rear quarters, limited availability of side airbags.

  • Very solid, just a few minor dislikes - 2005 Subaru Impreza
    By -

I have 83,000 miles on the clock at this time. Its been very solid and reliable. It drives pretty well. I have found over the years that the suspension does not feel as solid and connected to the road as it used to. The interior noise can be bad when you have passengers. Overall its been a very reliable and solid car.

The car is faster then my old fully modified skyline R34. and the handling is better then any 4WD I have driven in my life

  • Fast and practicle fun - 2005 Subaru Impreza

Very predictable handling and holds on tight to wet roads. Handling in the snow is very good after the summer only tires are changed to mud and snow tires. Auto temp control works well. There is actually enough room in the back seat for an adult human of average size, but not for an extended trip. Trunk space is good with room for golf clubs and groceries. Ride is tolerable to good, except on a real rough roads, you wont lose your teeth. Lots of road noise from the tires, but much better with with the M/S tires. The rear wing is annoying and attracts alittle more attention than I care for. Gas mileage is around 22-24 for me but I drive conservative. I look forward to driving it every time

  • Most bang for buck - 2005 Subaru Impreza

Im writing this review because I just finished my 45-mile commute in the snow and it was actually a pleasant ride. The car is stable and comfortable in any situation: high speed, low speed, rain, snow, dirt or mud, etc. Its not perfect: I am seriously upgrading to a Legacy GT Wagon or an A4 Avant, but for $21k, its the most practical, fun, and reliable car out there. Just dont expect luxury. 40,000 miles in 1.5 years and no problems except for a few rattles, which is something youll hear a lot with Subarus. I drive 80mph to work in dry weather (all highway), and I get only 21 mpg, so lack of a 6th speed is disappointing.

  • I FEEL LIKE AN ADDICT - 2005 Subaru Impreza
    By -

This car is so addicting that it draws you to the drivers seat and says lets go! The unbelievable power that is pumped out of this four banger is incredible, the car handles corners like it was a straight away, it stops on a dime picks it up, then gives you change. I cant believe the amount of respect this car gets no one wants to race you in fear of humiliation. This is absolutely the funnest car Ive ever drove! (P.S. I didnt even notice there was a stereo.) Worth every penny!

  • Outstanding all-around car - 2005 Subaru Impreza
    By -

Fast, reliable, excellent utility. I can haul snowboards to the mountains and take it to a track day and still have a blast. Easily customized. Reprogram the ECU for an easy ~25hp bump. Driveability improves as boost comes on sooner. Short shifter kit also suggested. I only get 22mpg on mixed commute.

  • 2005 2.5 RS wagon - 2005 Subaru Impreza

I dont know how anyone looking for an economical AWD vehicle doesnt grab this one immediately. I have no problems, although I do believe that at 50,000k I shouldnt have any problems. Fact is a lot of cars do have issues after a few kms. I live in Edmonton, Alberta Canada, and during one of our largest snow storms in recent times, I was out having fun and watching all the people in regular cars, digging pushing and swearing. This car has been rock solid, the one single complaint I have is the paint, it is not terrible, just would think it could be more rugged, but then again, its my first new car and scuffs show up easier.

  • The best car ever!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! - 2005 Subaru Impreza
    By -

This car is awesome! I have owned many other performance cars and this one stomps them all. The interior has been slightly redesigned so you have a 6 cd changer new cloth on the door panels and cup holders. The wheels have been widened this year as well. Also the steering is tight. Super SUPER fun to drive.

  • 20 Minute Vacation - 2005 Subaru Impreza

Moving from a 2004 WRX Wagon, my 2005 STI fixes the few things that I would have changed about the standard WRX . Power and handling come together providing entertainment that I couldnt afford before the STI. The wing is a bit outrageous and upsets many people on the road but Im having more fun than 99.9% of the driving public. Did I mention the power and handling.....

  • Not perfect, but a great value - 2005 Subaru Impreza
    By -

I have a 2002 WRX wagon. The car is VERY fun to drive - but before purchasing understand the maintenance costs of AWD(blow one tire, you either have toreplace all four or buy a special onewith the same tread). Premium gas isvery expensive nowadays too. But the car is a great value because its a blast to drive and will tear up the road, but you can fit five people in it if you have to and the cargo room is excellent for acar this size. The car lacks in creature comforts - the seats hold you in very well around corners but is uncomfortable especially if you are a larger person. Cupholders and storage desperately needs improvement. But, I love my car becauseit does it all.
