The Pathfinder has been completely redesigned for 2005 and now includes third-row seating and a larger, more powerful V6.

Pros:
  • Most powerful V6 in the class, above average off-road ability, well-laid-out interior, flexible seating design, ample storage space throughout.
Cons:
  • Tight rear-seat accommodations, on-road handling not as refined as car-based competitors, some odd interior materials.

  • Can go anywhere - 2005 Nissan Pathfinder
    By -

Within one week of owning the pathfinder we had a snow storm and it did exceptionally well in 10 inches of snow. Also, did great going up mud hills. It basically exceeded my every expectation of a nissan product. For fans of nissan, how could you not get one of these.

  • WOW! - 2005 Nissan Pathfinder

I purchased this truck almost new with only 4,000 miles on it. I have yet to find something about it that I dont like. Ive used the 4wd and it was really great in handling and safety. If anyone is looking for a solid built, great looking and fun to drive SUV, look no further.

This is a really nice vehicle. Style, gas milage, inside room. Too bad its directional stability (wandering) affects the driving of rhe vehicle. Violent shaking when hitting bumps and the rear suspension bottoms out. Ive had the rear leaf springs replaced by Nissan, but it did not improve the suspension. Nissan NA and their "lead" mechanics acknowledge that the wandering and shaking happen, but they say that is the characteristic of the vehicle. It is a safety concern that they are not addressing. Fix the steering and suspension and this is a delight vehicle to own.

  • No quality in catalytic converters - 2005 Nissan Pathfinder
    By -

Heat shields rattle. Brakes squeak until replaced w/better brake system. 3rd catalytic converter failure w/in 40k. We have maintained the car faithfully since new (synth oil, rotate & bal tire, good fuel, cleaned fuel injectors, flushed radiator regularly). Love the car other than the continuing problems with catalytic converters. We have had 5 Nissans and have been loyal Nissan customers for 15 years. Dealership told us contact Nissan Corporate Customer Service because of several complaints w/ catalytic converters. Nissan Customer Service said too bad too sad...said "we dont qualify for help" implied we dont spend enough at Nissan. Dont worry Nissan. We wont spend anymore! Buy American!

  • Awesome Ride - 2005 Nissan Pathfinder
    By -

Awesome ride excellent steering, in and out of parking lots, quick on the freeway through traffic and on the streets great breaking smooth, control have easy access. We have a child and she loves the 3rd row seat kind of private, easy access to rear storage area for groceries from the exterior or interiors. Many electric plugs for games, DVD players etc great for kids.

  • Nice SUV - 2005 Nissan Pathfinder
    By -

This performs more like a 350z than an SUV. The engine is VERY powerful, almost too fast for an SUV. The gas mileage is HORRIBLE, however. Ive averaged 13 MPG since Ive had it. Maybe b/c I drive too fast, but either way, its bad. Interior is great, no problems at all.

  • Radiator Assembly Problem - 2005 Nissan Pathfinder
    By -

I bought my 2005 Pathfinder used in October 2008. It now has 74,500 miles. I read all the horror stories about the radiator assembly so I decided to take matters into my own hands. I had the dealer replace it before the extended warranty even expired. I had no evidence of any problem but did not want to risk ruining the transmission. Woodbury Nissan in NJ charged $843 (parts & labor) to replace the radiator assembly, but the piece of mind was worth it. Maybe if Nissan ever decides to recall, Ill be reimbursed. Im not holding my breath. And yes... Ill never buy another Nissan.

  • Buyers Beware - 2005 Nissan Pathfinder
    By -

I have read several comments from people who own a Pathfinder about the problems with the radiator leaking into the transmission. Well, now I am personally having this problem as well. The fluid has leaked into my transmission which now has to be completely overhauled and its only 3 years old and of course out of warranty. So buyers beware. We called Nissan but were basically told too bad. Until now the vehicle ran great so if you do purchase a Pathfinder then make sure you buy the extended warranty!!

  • Best non-lux midsize suv - 2005 Nissan Pathfinder
    By -

Throttle on the 4.0VQ is very responsive for an SUV. Handling is great for a vehicle this size. Braking is great as the vehicle stops well under control when the brakes are slammed at 40mph. Nissan creates a great blend of on road manners and performance with true off road capability. This Pathfinder defines sport-utility. Only the 4Runner and Grand Cherokee can compete, but the Pathfinder gives you more for less and is standard with third row seats for the growing family. The interior feels Infiniti and the Bose system sounds great. Suspension is much improved, but could be better. 4Runner is softer over bumps. Seats could be softened a little too for improved comfort.
