This Year's Model Updates:

Ever expanding and improving its brood of stately vehicles, Mercedes gives the C-Class a complete overhaul for 2001. A choice of two new engines, increased safety features and sleeker sheet metal tempt those who seek to gain a foothold into the exalted realms of Mercedes ownership.

Pros:
  • Solid construction, free scheduled maintenance, S-Class Jr. styling.
Cons:
  • Tight squeeze for backseat occupants, pricey for its segment.

I purchased my 2001 C240 new and drove less then 5,000/yr. In that time, every electronic system in the car that could fail did so. My dealer was as helpful as they could be and, after 1-1/2 yrs of nearly monthly repairs, suggested I request Mercedes assist me in replacing the car. It took six months but after two letters from me and the support of my dealership, Mercedes helped me financially to replace the car with a new 2003 C240. I am delighted with the new car - absolutely no problems to date - knock wood! Unlike the first car, the new one has controls that work the first time. Time will tell but so far, I am very pleased with the new C240.

I love my C320! It still a head- turner, looks/drives great. It does break a lot (same problems that other MB owners have). Hey, what do you expect from an expensive car? If you buy this car with out warranty, expect to pay about $1000 annually in repair bills. My mechanic does the repairs, I never take it to dealer, except free car washes(You can do an oil change anywhere.) Its a great car!

I ordered the C240 months before the Dec 2000 delivery. During the first 2 years, the car had all kinds of minor problems that kept me returning to the dealership around twice a month. The rear light bulbs were out every week, the speakers were replaced twice, AC, windows. Between 20k to 65k, the car was a joy to drive, and was pretty much problem free. From 65k on, the AC was a problem, the check engine light, the coolant light, the digital dash, the battery, the noise from the steering. I had spend over $5k fixing items outside of normal maintance, and the car just keep coming up with new problems. This is the most unreliable foreign car I have ever own.

My first Mercedes-a HUGE disappointment. Greatlooking car that drives beautifully but..I feel thatI paid for a Mercedes and got a Dodge or Yugo. The problem-build Quality! The car has only 18,000 miles on it and the list of problems is way too long:Squeaky seats, moonroof malfunctions, software problems, hood swicthes fell off, brakes(rotors and pads had to be replaced at 7000 miles),defective electronics, transmission problems, replaced SOS system, continuous electronic door lock problems. This a comfortable, great driving car that but it is NOT what I expected from Mercedes and it is NOT worth the money. It will be a long time before I look at another Mercedes.

  • One of the best cars I have ever owned! - 2001 Mercedes-Benz C-Class

I have had this Benz for 150,000 miles so far and I am extremely impressed by its reliability and quality. We shipped this car to Lebanon where the roads are horrible! Ever since then we have had only routine maintenance and an air conditioner replacement. Otherwise this car is the most reliable car in our garage it has never died on us, never overheated, it never does anything its not supposed to do! The traction in the wet is not the best, but the handling in dry conditions is wonderful and responsive. Its that solid German enginering that is outstanding. The feeling of driving a solid well made car makes me hate driving most domestic cars. This car is a great investment!

  • First one will be the LAST one! - 2001 Mercedes-Benz C-Class

We bought this car expecting to receive a quality automobile, and it has been nothing but one problem after another. Of the 6 vehicles in my drive way this one spends more time in the shop the the other 5 combined. They obviously need to revamp the electrical system, brakes and train the service departments to deal with complaints instead of ignoring them completely. I have never been more disappointed in a vehicle in my life. What a waste of money, time and effort. Resell value is a joke.

  • C240 Disappointed... - 2001 Mercedes-Benz C-Class

Biggest complaint has been poor radio reception. Lots of static on FM and some stations do not come in at all. Other trips to the dealer have been, rear sunshade stopped working, front end bushings squeaked, both front indicators malfunctioned, front seats squeaked and drivers seat was very spongy and felt loose on turns. Also Sunroof regularly needs the resyncing procedure, My C240 has got the Mercedes Benz bug out of my system. Just wish MB could get the bugs out of their system!

Much better than my 95 C280, a bit pricey, but worth every penny...especially with the COMAND system.

  • Nice car - 2001 Mercedes-Benz C-Class

This purchase was made after considering the BMW 325xi. BMW was overpriced versus what the new car quotes from the car reviews on the net, and a use C320 was lower priced with a more confortable ride for passengers. The trunk is also larger making it acceptable for short road trips.

This vehicle has been nothing but problems after month 12 of ownership. I have been to the dealer 15 times in the past 2years to fix electrical issues. Will never buy another MB.
