This Year's Model Updates:

Ever expanding and improving its brood of stately vehicles, Mercedes gives the C-Class a complete overhaul for 2001. A choice of two new engines, increased safety features and sleeker sheet metal tempt those who seek to gain a foothold into the exalted realms of Mercedes ownership.

Pros:
  • Solid construction, free scheduled maintenance, S-Class Jr. styling.
Cons:
  • Tight squeeze for backseat occupants, pricey for its segment.

  • Mercedes doesnt Care - 2001 Mercedes-Benz C-Class
    By -

No quality customer service here and Mercedes doesnt stand behind the car. Brakes are soft and need replacing often(they suggest every 10-14000 miles). Dealerships arent knowledgeable enough to do repairs(they nicked my leather, dented the hood and roof top, scratched the wood grain) and denied they did it. Dont buy from Mercedes..honda,toyota,nissan,bmw...anyone else is better.

  • Frequent Expensive Repairs - 2001 Mercedes-Benz C-Class

This model car has numerous problems. My 55 yr old wife drives this car gently. Yet, after 90K miles, I have replaced: braking computer, rear brakes 3x, front brakes 6x, alternator, numerous sensors, spark plugs and wires 2x, MAF 2x, EGR Valve 2x, EGR tube, fuel pump, motor mounts 2x, rear coil springs, numerous bulbs, window regulators 3x, front speakers, door handle, battery 2x, wheel, keys 2x, front control arm, steering assembly, gas cap, and sway bar links. Yet to repair: fading LCD instrument display, pass seat heater, front shocks, cracked cigarette tray cover, shifter (base pulled away from console), steering wheel, valve cover gaskets, clicking noise in drive shaft, trunk handle.

This was the car I did NOT intend to buy, but couldnt be happier. Weve come to appreciate the safety, performance and engineering so much that we are sold on making a Mercedes the next purchase should we ever let this one go.

  • Disappointed - 2001 Mercedes-Benz C-Class
    By -

Waited oh so long for this car. First Mercedes and all that but have to say that I am somewaht disappointed. Stereo reception is poor at best. Seats are really uncomfortable despite my best attempts to configure. The idea of having to pay extra for a CD player is a bit much. At the end of the day, should have gone with a used E or waited until I could afford a new E.

  • bugs - 2001 Mercedes-Benz C-Class
    By -

The car is overengineered. The computer seems to bleed information on lights, mirrors, seats, etc. The electronic key is sluggish. The trunk is too small. Im glad I have my 91 190. I cant see the dashboard screen during sunlit hours. Still, it is fun to drive. How do I find Recall notices?

  • Is this a MB or a BM? - 2001 Mercedes-Benz C-Class
    By -

all the articles that say MB reliabilty has gone down are correct. its also too small of a car for the price.

  • Youll never want to get out of this car - 2001 Mercedes-Benz C-Class
    By -

There is a reason that Mercedes-Benz has a reputation for being one of the most luxurious and prestigious cars built today. Even the C-class boasts so many features, you wont believe its the lowest class they manufacture. I never mind being stuck in traffic anymore when Im in my C240. It just becomes a part of you-- an extension of your own body! The performance is outstanding, and you wont feel safer in any other car.

  • Over-engineered cars are not reliable - 2001 Mercedes-Benz C-Class
    By -

The 2001 C240 is a solid ride. Looks good,is safe, but not dependable! I am at the delearship every other month. Everyone there knows me by name. Where do I begin? Locking problems with the keys, then locking problems with the cpu. The leather de-laminated from both doors. fuel pump had to be replaced at 42000 miles. rear brake lights not working, defective SAM card. Front directional not working, defective SAM card. finally car will not start when engine is warm, the timing chain-cam sensor is defective! Most repairs were not under warranty, and averaged 800 dollars per event.
