This Year's Model Updates:

Ever expanding and improving its brood of stately vehicles, Mercedes gives the C-Class a complete overhaul for 2001. A choice of two new engines, increased safety features and sleeker sheet metal tempt those who seek to gain a foothold into the exalted realms of Mercedes ownership.

Pros:
  • Solid construction, free scheduled maintenance, S-Class Jr. styling.
Cons:
  • Tight squeeze for backseat occupants, pricey for its segment.

Mercedes advertises as a luxury vehicle- they should also advertise as dont give a crap customer service! This car is way overpriced.Have been to several dealerships for warranty work and not one of them has ever done a good job.Its the same thing time after time. When I called Mercedes to complain they said that each dealer is independent and that they have no control! What a load of crap! Toyota,Nissan,Honda care-even BMW.We need to get the word out about Mercedes so people will quit buying and the company will be forced to comply with consumers needs.I tried to trade this car in-even with factory warranty no one wants it.Dont buy Mercedes!

  • Beware the New C Class!!! - 2001 Mercedes-Benz C-Class

I am very fond of German cars, but my experience with the 01 C240 has been a disappointment. This car has spent more time at the dealership than all my previous Benzs (3) and BMWs (5) combined. The dealership has been wonderful and most problems have been covered under waranty. However, it is a hassel finding the time to take car to dealer for repairs. My 99 C230 has been much more dependable. The only time it has seen the dealer is for routine maintance. If you want to drive a "Baby Benz", do yourself a favor and find late model W202 (older C Class)and save yourself alot of trouble and money.

This is my third MB and my biggest disappointment with the reliability/quality. The car has been in for warranty service approximately 8 times for electrical issues, new speedometer, key problems, radio reception, new back window, door lock problems, faulty fuel gauge, mirrors that readjust themselves, ticking noise in the front engine compartment and it now needs to go back for a rear windshade that wont turn off, squeaking shocks and strange noise from transmission. Its unfortunate that such a comfortable and beautifully styled car has all of these annoying problems. This could be my last MB.

Car has luxury look and feel, even after 6 years. Runs smooth, tracks well, and remains quiet and comfortable. Great car with lots of class!

This is the first MB that I have bought and it has been one of the biggest mistakes in my life. First, the car has frequent break-ups, from the wipers, to the air conditioning, to the suspension, to light bulbs, to whatever you want to think about. Second, the service is a real NIGHTMARE in Garage Isla Verde in San Juan, Puerto Rico. My experience is that they are unreliable, arrogant, indifferent and totally foreign to customer service excellence. Service is as bad as the C320. At least they are consistent on that!!! NEVER fall into the same mistake of trading your BMW for a MB. Youll regret it for the rest of your life.

  • So much hope - 2001 Mercedes-Benz C-Class

Loved driving the car, great handling! Made me look forward to the drive to/from work. Fun on the weekends too! However, having an alternator go out at 52,000 miles is ridiculous. We bought this car used, 44,000 miles, in May of 2005. After the alternator was fixed at the dealer yesterday afternoon, drove the car straight to be sold. We felt like this car was ready to become a money pit. We had MANY bulb failures, and a "thumping" that the dealer couldnt ever figure out nor fix. We had researched the Lexus and intended to buy one, but, found this car on the lot and fell in love. Reliability is very important to us, and we (I) made the wrong decision.

I bought this car used from a dealership and quickly realized that I would encounter numerous issues with it. It looks great inside and out but it stops there.I have had so many repairs from the dealer they know which loaner car I like best and I have developed a friendship with one of the CSRs at the dealer. At one point they have my car for over 4 weeks trying to determine an issue and even brought Mb Germany into the mix. I didnt expect a MB to have so many issues...broken climate control unit, steering column,cd player, digital dash display and more. The paint chips and has faded in numerous places and the door seals have dry-rotted making for a very loud ride on the road.Poor form MB!

  • Excellent so far - 2001 Mercedes-Benz C-Class

Excellent value (1 year old 11000 miles). Pleasant drive, quiet, firm comfortable ride. Handles well, but a tad heavy. Tried C240 stick: sluggish and trans inferior to 87 Golf. Auto- trans excellent. Many controls weird but some just fine (seat adjusters impossible to misunderstand). Seats almost as good as Volvo (high praise!) but wish they located me better. Overall: Really nice car, really good machine. If it holds together were going to like this car for a long time. If youre spending this sort of money youd be nuts not to try one of these.
