This Year's Model Updates:

Ever expanding and improving its brood of stately vehicles, Mercedes gives the C-Class a complete overhaul for 2001. A choice of two new engines, increased safety features and sleeker sheet metal tempt those who seek to gain a foothold into the exalted realms of Mercedes ownership.

Pros:
  • Solid construction, free scheduled maintenance, S-Class Jr. styling.
Cons:
  • Tight squeeze for backseat occupants, pricey for its segment.

  • So far so excellent - 2001 Mercedes-Benz C-Class

After 27k miles, I havent had any problems. The C320 has lots of power when you need it and drives very smoothly. I got the sport package and the car handles very well around the turns.

  • Excellent road car, poor reliabilty - 2001 Mercedes-Benz C-Class

Car driven all highway miles. Excellent engine and drive train. Quiet interior, low wind noise. 32 mpg w/ 6spd. Solid handling and tracking, supurb braking. Very high frequency of maintenance and expense compared to previously owed Volvos. Parking brake failed 3x, climate control 2x (and never the same as new), teleaid 1x, CD player 2x, both rear coils cracked 1x, strut bushing replaced 3x, fuel line clogged 1x, keys 1x, turn signal harness 1x, light harness 1x, oil level sensor 1x, ignition Lock and Steering Lock 1x, ELT connector 1x. The amount of service necessitated selling the car. It is a huge dissapointment as the car is a joy to drive.

  • Decent Car for the $$$ - 2001 Mercedes-Benz C-Class

Leased it in 11/2000 and purchased at lease-end. Few problems; but ALL cars have problems, ALL of them! I have the sport package with xenons, phone, CD changer and it is an awesome ride especially in light of the hands-free laws in certain states. Would I buy another? Yes! But not where I got this one.

  • Great car with only 2 design flaws - 2001 Mercedes-Benz C-Class

I was one of the first owners of the redesigned C-class. It is a sharp looking car and I get lots of compliments on the style. Mercedes had some original kinks, but they have worked them out.

  • Disappointed in Chicago - 2001 Mercedes-Benz C-Class

I bought this car after driving a Volvo for 5years - the 850Glt. Went for the safety (eight airbags) and class of driving a MB product. I thought I was taking a step up...I was very mistaken. First the seat comfort does not nearly compare to the Volvo. Second the interior room - particularly the backseats - is terrible. Engine performance for price is lackluster. The Volvo850 GLT w/ turbo was the same price (year-on- year) and lacked about 30hbp. One did not feel confident accelerating onto expressways - particulalrly the Eisonhower and Edens in Chicago...The C240 is not worth it - PERIOD.

  • Worst Car EVER - 2001 Mercedes-Benz C-Class
    By -

I bought this car with only one previous owner with only 57k miles cash for 7k. Worst mistake ever. As soon as I got the car things started breaking down, transmission, electrical etc. If you are looking for a luxury vehicle STAY AWAY!

  • Mercedes Benz C240 (6M) - 2001 Mercedes-Benz C-Class

The only reason I bought this car was it came with a 6-speed manual transmission, the only MB sold with a manual in the USA in 2002,and it was the smallest MB to fit a family of 4-5. The car has excellent ride for it size and fun to drive with 6-speed manual. It has more power than I need with a small V-6. I must say built quality is poor, especially when it comes to electrical components. We had all kinds of problems with those dummy keys, they had to change several times; one time the trunk would not open for weeks until the dealer ordered parts and fixed it; and now the radio is not working properly. If I have to buy another car of this size again, it will be a BMW 3 series.

  • Great Car! So Luxurious! - 2001 Mercedes-Benz C-Class

I love my car! It has almost 70,000 miles and is still in amazing condition. The car is so fast and the interior is so luxurious. The engine is powerful and the car is fully loaded well beyond other cars in its class

  • Fun to drive, when not in the shop - 2001 Mercedes-Benz C-Class
    By -

I preordered the car in Dec. 2000. The car is wonderful to drive. Its comfortable, fast, and sporty enough to whip through the corners. Yes, the car could use some more power for my tastes, but it has plenty for normal use. The car gets good gas mileage considering engine size/weight. Main problem is quality. The car is being fixed every 2-3 months. Engine, transmission, electronics, brakes, AC, radio, CD changer, paint flaking off and lights. The dealer has been very receptive and everything has been fixed for free, but I am tired of the problems. My warranty is running out and I think I am going to sell it. If you are looking to buy a used MB avoid this model like the plague.
