Overview & Reviews
The SLK's 2.3-liter supercharged engine gets dropped into the C-Class, replacing the normally aspirated engine of the last C230. Performance has been turned up a notch. In addition, leather seating surfaces are now standard across the C-Class line.
- Fast and luxurious.
- Initial hesitation when taking off from a standstill.

Going on my 5th MBZ - 1999 Mercedes-Benz C-Class
By Tom - October 14 - 10:00 amI just bought a 1999 C230 Sedan Kompressor with less than 69k miles, in great condition internal/external. Apart from a little cricket noise the car is perfect. Ive owned a 2001 coupe C230 Kompressor and I prefer the sedan for its solid stance and build quality. Ive owned 4 others E, TD, E4matic and very happy with all of them. I regret selling them - think this time will be a keeper.

Is there anything bad? - 1999 Mercedes-Benz C-Class
By MBRob - August 29 - 8:36 amI received my first Mercedes upon turning 16. It was a hand-me-down 190E with 197k,but I was hooked on Benz from then on.Before starting college, my parents surprised me with a 99 C280.It had just over 70k so it was just getting started. After having for almost 2 years, and 50k miles I still love it. Mercedes has outdone themselves. The horsepower seemed a little small until you drive the car. It is fast! It really seems to have everything a car could need! Besides a couple small quirks, broken cupholder(surprise) and failed wiper motor, I have had no problems.Services are a little pricey, but people who complain about that had to have known that beforehand. Good gas mileage too. Way to go MB!

Great Car - 1999 Mercedes-Benz C-Class
By FearlessPussycat - July 16 - 2:00 amAfter over four years and mixed city/ highway driving, this is a terrific car. I leased it for three years and bought it after the lease was up. I live in an area with terrible streets, terrible drivers and four seasons. The car has held up very well--no rattles or squeeks. The turning radius is amazing and the car does everything well - stop, go and turn!

My Loyal Companion - 1999 Mercedes-Benz C-Class
By raymo - June 23 - 4:43 pmIve had BMWs, Audis, an Alpha Romeo, and a Maserati. Each ones strenght was overshadowed by its reliability weaknesses. My 230 is a joy to drive. Its very responsive yet gets great gas mileage. It has been a low maintenance, strong and reliable car. Im afraid to get rid of it.

old to new - 1999 Mercedes-Benz C-Class
By jamiebutlr - April 17 - 2:00 amhaving owned a 1978 280 CE for some years, decided to try daimler-chrysler product with minimal research and many test drives. This is still a Mercedes, no doubt with loader, yet responsive supercharged 4-cyl. Great fun and similar timeless design and quality to my dearly departed 1978

Best Buy!!! - 1999 Mercedes-Benz C-Class
By GermanCarGuy - January 10 - 10:00 amI purchased my 99 C230 in April of 2003 with 68K miles on it. What a great car. I have had absolutely no problems with this car and now I have 101K miles on it. The W202 C Class is much more reliable than the newer W203 C Class. I know, my wifes 01 C240 has been nothing but problems from day one.

Watch out - 1999 Mercedes-Benz C-Class
By micaheldab - October 9 - 6:10 amI am sorry to say this is my first and last Mercedes. Just a month ago new transmission under warranty now compressor on a/c went. I have spent a lot more on maintenance than on my 2 Hondas. Sad thing is I still owe $6,000 on this. Mercedes needs to go back to the drawing board. Mine has 82,000 miles on it. My nephews 96 Accord with 199,000 everything still works his car like it rolled off the showroom floor.
