Model Overview:

The Mazda CX-7 is a compact crossover SUV with seating for five. Introduced for 2007, it was a refinement on the more utilitarian Tribute and like most newer Mazdas, it has an athletic demeanor. The CX-7 also incorporates most of the elements that continue to make crossovers so popular, including carlike handling, available all-wheel drive and a useful amount of cargo capacity.

Although the CX-7 is fun to drive as crossovers go, its base four-cylinder engine is memorable for its sluggish acceleration and subpar fuel economy. The available turbocharged four-cylinder solves the performance problem, but its fuel economy is even worse. With the efficient CX-5 waiting in the wings, the CX-7 was phased out after the 2012 model year.

  • Hate this Car - 2007 Mazda CX-7

Bought this car in 8/07. Hated it since the 2nd week of ownership! (I traded it last month.) This car is over-priced, cheap looking, hard to see out of, poor gas mileage, premium gas. I bit the bullet, worked out a good trade and kissed it good-bye! Never been so glad to get rid of a car!

I loved this car when we first purchased it. After 3 months we started having problems with it. It has been in the shop 14 times in the year that we have had it. Trying to get it declared a lemon. New transmission module, new computer, new tires and new engine!! Dont buy this year model!

  • Do not buy this Car - 2011 Mazda CX-7

We purchased our CX-7 a month ago, and are very unhappy with it. Do not buy this car, it is impossible to get replacement tires for it. Only one manufacturer makes them and they are completely out of stock and on back order. We have a punctured tire and no way to fix it. Also while car has decent handling and nice interior features, it is not the most comfortable seats. Really wish I had not bough this car.

  • JUST DONT DO IT!!!!!! - 2007 Mazda CX-7

There has been something wrong with this engine I noticed it right after I brought it, I have a clacking sound when starting it, every now anf then white smoke from the exhaust, oils burning, I have gotten oil chages regularly, I think the turbo is going bad, I brought it from Monroeville Chrysler Jeep and Dodge they over priced it and when I took it back the next they denied any problems. The turbo I hear is 3000 to fix , do not take the risk.

  • Worst in Category - 2011 Mazda CX-7

I drove over 800 miles on a weekend getaway with a rental CX-7 AWD and the least that I can say is that this car is a disappointment. I spent a fortune on gas, the car was averaging a bit less than 18 mpg on the highway and about 12 in city driving. There was no fun to drive, the turbo has almost no kick. I was shocked to see that the car didnt have electronic temperature control, a feature that 15,000$ car now have. For that price range, I would without a doubt buy a Ford Edge that looks way better and that is tens time more fun to drive and has 20x more features than the CX-7. Shame on you Mazda.

  • Worst Car Ive yet to own! - 2007 Mazda CX-7

Hmmm.... lets see.... how many people have had happen the EXACT same thing as I have--Bad VVT causing timing chain stretch? Started to happen at 62k miles and thus Mazda is not standing behind the car. Luckily I caught it before it caused a snapped chain and ruined engine. Timing chains are supposed to last MUCH longer, and yet Mazda acts like it is a rare occurrence. I also struggled with the turbo lag. At first I fooled myself into thinking that it was normal for a turbo-until I owned a TDI Jetta--not even close. The unsettling lag and then surge in power at times was almost comical. The longer we owned it, the less an less we liked this car--sold it off for a new Subaru!

  • Poor Quality - 2011 Mazda CX-7

I purchased my CX7 the day before Thanksgiving last year. Overall I am not impressed with this vehicle. It has already spent a total of three weeks in the shop because of air conditioning issues as well as electrical issues. For this vehicle not even being a year old I am VERY disappointed to see the plastic lenses getting cloudy on the head lights. This is something I would expect from a 8 to 10 year old vehicle. When I asked the dealer about it I was told this is normal. This vehicle practically lives in a garage, while at home it’s parked in the garage, and when I am at work it is parked in the underground parking – never really sitting out in direct sun light enough

  • Never buying a Mazda again. - 2007 Mazda CX-7
    By -

My wife bought her CX-7 used with around 40,000 miles. Timing chain broke at 60,100 miles. No check engine light until car actually stopped running (in passing lane on busy interstate). Mazda is replacing the engine right now, no questions asked, despite her not being able to find all her oil change receipts. I suppose we have to thank everyone else before us who had this problem and complained, otherwise wed be in the same boat. This thing apparently develops other problems that we dont want to to have to deal with, so as soon as its fixed, were trading it in!!!

  • Stay away. - 2011 Mazda CX-7
    By -

As suggested by another reviewer.... stay away from this car. The reliability is HORRIBLE on these cars. Mazda needs to scrap their powertrain on this one and start over again. Interior hard surface plastics do not wear well and look cheap in comparison to its peers.
