Model Overview:

The Mazda CX-7 is a compact crossover SUV with seating for five. Introduced for 2007, it was a refinement on the more utilitarian Tribute and like most newer Mazdas, it has an athletic demeanor. The CX-7 also incorporates most of the elements that continue to make crossovers so popular, including carlike handling, available all-wheel drive and a useful amount of cargo capacity.

Although the CX-7 is fun to drive as crossovers go, its base four-cylinder engine is memorable for its sluggish acceleration and subpar fuel economy. The available turbocharged four-cylinder solves the performance problem, but its fuel economy is even worse. With the efficient CX-5 waiting in the wings, the CX-7 was phased out after the 2012 model year.

  • Do Yourself A Favor and Buy Something Else! - 2007 Mazda CX-7

Purchased new in March 2007. Constant CELs (check engine lights) from the beginning. I dont drive it much. Has less than 70,000 miles on it almost 10 years later. Just spent $2k repairing timing chain and oil control valve. Has needed prior expensive repairs related to the turbo engine. This is an old car but kept in the garage with VERY low miles. The oil is changed frequently, the maintenance is kept up. It should be a VERY good car at this point but it isnt. You will find yourself with expensive repairs if you buy this car. Researched online and many owners had a blown engine at 60-100K miles. Mazda stopped making them for a good reason. On top of that, whatever the advertised MPG is, is a lie. I get about 250 miles from a full tank of gas. Thats about 16 MPG regardless of freeway or street driving. Yes, its cute but the reality of owning it isnt.

  • Fell in love....now HATE - 2008 Mazda CX-7

This was my second car ever and I was completely in love until the cars issues began! It killed me to see this car break so much because it was my baby. Turbo went twice, tires had to be changed at 20000 miles, navigation only works when it wants to, the engine ticks VERY loudly, squeaks like a 30 year old car, battery just went due to bad starter (still fighting dealership over that), the gas mileage is terrible!,the paint scratches very easily, and the abs has failed more then once. This car could be a awesome car if they fixed the problems! I loved it so much when I bought it!

  • Stay Away from this SUV - 2007 Mazda CX-7

Wow, I am not really shocked at all the complaints but i am glad to see that i am not the only one in distress, I bought this junk brand new in 2007 and now it sits in my back yard not running at all. My timing chain broke at 56,00 miles, YES, and when it broke so did my engine. I always had thoughts that this car was junk because I would hear a rattle from time to time after acceleration and then a puff of smoke and check engine light stayed on, ac is horrible for back passengers, horrible, There needs to be a recall on this SUV nothing but junk and know I have a to pay for a car thats need 10,000 worth of work, I had this car serviced every 6000 miles now look, JUNK JUNK JUNK stay away

  • Nothing but Problems - 2007 Mazda CX-7

My wife and I purchased the CX-7 in November 2007. The vehicle has been in the shop more than 40 days. It is an electrical nightmare! Problems range from parking lights that do not turn off to windows that will not work. The car has a stiff ride, poor rear visibility, and a cheap looking interior. MPG is horrible averaging about 15. I believe that its sibling, the CX-9, won car of the year for 2007, however the CX-7 is anything but!

  • Dead Engine at 37K Miltes - 2007 Mazda CX-7
    By -

I wish I would have done more research before buying this car. The bad experience at the dealership when purchasing the car should have been my first warning sign. After 2 1/2 years of driving, with no warning (no check engine light, no oil light, no nothing), it is dead. Works one day, the next they say the engine is dead due to improper maintenance (not true) and I need a new engine. No warranty coverage because it wasnt properly maintained (not true). Took 2 weeks for them to tell me they wouldnt cover it. $300 later in rental car expenses, Im still without a car. Thank you Mazda. Customer service and quality...two words that dont go with Mazda. Never again.
