Two new trim levels join the Jetta lineup for 2006: the upscale 2.0T and the sporty GLI. Both feature a 200-hp, turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder, and both can be equipped with VW's trick DSG direct shift gearbox. All Jettas besides the Value Edition now feature standard alloy wheels, and torso-protecting rear-seat side airbags are newly optional.

Solid, fun, different. - 2006 Volkswagen Jetta
By Fahrenvergnügen - June 7 - 6:26 pmIve had the Jetta for 3 years and am very satisfied. Its a good sized vehicle for me and the type of driving I do: trips around town, sometimes with people and things, and the occasional road trip. After 48K miles, Im hard pressed to find any faults at all. Its reliable, fun & sensible, but not boring and bland like the Asian competition. The 5spd and 2.5 motor have plenty of torque to compete off the line if you are a skilled rower. The interior build quality is Teutonic solid, ergonomically correct for the driver. Pax might find it a bit "stiff" (mine have, but I dont care, because Im having fun driving). Looking forward to at least 100K unless I upgrade to an Audi before then.

Spewing thick blast exhaust smoke - 2006 Volkswagen Jetta
By PR - April 14 - 8:26 pmStarted before warranty but thought it was typical of diesels. Past warranty real problem of excessive smoke while accelerating and what felt like clutch slipping so that the car would almost not move, very dangerous when departing from stopped position & left turning. Nobody knows anything but it will be thousands to TRY & fix. Very disappointed.

Exellent Choice - 2006 Volkswagen Jetta
By JV - March 18 - 10:30 pmFor what is out there at that this price, this car is an excellent choice. I love the DSG direct shift gearbox. I found a couple of annoying things mostly related to what I think may be the computer (the clock runs slow, the airbag does not go off when passenger leaves the car, Satellite Radio deletes my pre-selected memory). Other than that, I love it. I wonder how the DSG works with a Turbo or a V6.

faulty headliners - 2006 Volkswagen Jetta
By nandev - February 15 - 2:00 amWe own this vehicle..I would not buy another..one month out of warranty with 20,000 miles on it the headliner started pulling off. Went to dealer,they stated they would order a new one. well 8 weeks later and now they wont return our calls. Stopped by and we were told they couldnt see were one was ever ordered. They should have been up front and stated sorry cant do anything about it. Honda does courtesy warranties on stuff like this. No more VW for us. We are in our 50s and our cars are very well taken care of. This is unacceptable. They have a problem with their headliners falling down..

Lots of Fun Including the New Technology - 2006 Volkswagen Jetta
By RB - January 22 - 8:46 pmI have done my homework reviewing and testing driving sports sedans (Maxda6, Acura TSX, Pontiac G6, Volvo 40/50, Sabb 9-3) over a 3 month period before settling on the 06 Jetta. Ive traditionally bought North American GM. My GM products have done me well but they dont have the fit/finish and technology that the Jetta offers. My Jetta is loaded to the gills no other options available, 2.0T, DSG Auto, side front rear airbags, and zenon headlights. I have 2,200 km. on it so far. The car is real fun to drive, quick and responsive, no rattles and squeaks. Drives better at 160km/hr with still lots of pep to go. Overall mechanicall better then all the other cars tested, performance and technology.

Electrical Problems Galore - 2006 Volkswagen Jetta
By JettaGirl06 - December 25 - 6:33 amLove the car and its great mileage, but the electrical problems are horrific. Would never keep it past the warranty. Wipers jump when turned off, blew out two cell phone adaptors, one head light stays on sometimes after engine turned off. There are annoying rattles. A screw fell off of the door panel. The batteries in the key chains last about four months. One tire blew out (could have hit something, but not sure). Radio has poor reception. But love the engine, the really clean smell (does this thing have an ionizer?), the fuel mileage is above stated once broken in.

Never Again - 2006 Volkswagen Jetta
By Momof1 - December 13 - 9:23 amI am a previous 99 Jetta owner and bought the 06 Jetta in 07 and have had nothing but problems. The dealership hates me because Im constantly in there. Cold starts on this thing are horrible car makes a really annoying noise which I was told all of them make after repeated visits to the dealership for this problem. The headliner came undone and had to be replaced about 2 months ago. I just had the catalytic converter replaced this month and now I have this burning smell coming from the rear of the car. I have to say that Im very disappointed with this vehicle and will probably trade it in soon only because I dont want anything to happen to it when my warranty runs out.

All around great car - 2006 Volkswagen Jetta
By Greg - November 19 - 9:40 amSome minor interior quality things need to be improved, like the window buttons have started to loose its paint, and homelink transmitter fell off. Over all its a great car. Have not had one bit of problems with it. Doesnt have that great of pick up and go. But has a lot of modification options which Ive taken advantage of.

Drives like a porsche - 2006 Volkswagen Jetta
By Bob Young - October 9 - 5:17 amIve replaced many parts with OEM parts, The Radiator, front axles(2), new brakes- front/back, timing belt, water pump, front airbag, turn signal led strip, 4 new tires- 65k warranty. Body has a few small dings and scrapes, leather interior is very good condition, overall a good daily driver or 2nd backup vehicle, dependable and drives great.
