Overview & Reviews
Two new trim levels join the Jetta lineup for 2006: the upscale 2.0T and the sporty GLI. Both feature a 200-hp, turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder, and both can be equipped with VW's trick DSG direct shift gearbox. All Jettas besides the Value Edition now feature standard alloy wheels, and torso-protecting rear-seat side airbags are newly optional.

VW Jetta 2.0T If you looking - 2006 Volkswagen Jetta
By Berney2000 - February 2 - 4:03 pmIve had this car going on 10 months. I will say VW has done well with redesigning the Jetta, my previous car being one. I like the compact and but economical spaced aspects of the Jetta. For a compact sedan its overall amazing to drive and has neat features. The gas claims 30, Ive only seemed to get about 26. Interior is fun and somewhat comfortable. With todays gas about $2.71 per gallon its cost me only $30.00 which I do enjoy.

Nothing but problems.... - 2006 Volkswagen Jetta
By Fletcher - January 29 - 2:00 amFor every dollar saved in mileage, you will spend two on maintenance. The following has been repaired so far: turbo, dash display control chip, stereo, interior lights, and drivers electric seat controls. The outside mirror defogger works intermittently and the ceiling skirt is falling down and in some places, hanging. Dealer maintenance is expensive as are the parts. In hindsite, a quality Japanese car with weaker gas mileage would have been a better choice. Never again.

Engine Issues - 2006 Volkswagen Jetta
By Jenny - January 23 - 7:56 amI bought this car because of its great looks and cheap price tag; however, all I have faced is headaches. I am currently going in for the fourth time since my purchase for engine, exhaust, and electrical problems. One of the times there had been a recall through VW, and I was never notified.

Problems.... - 2006 Volkswagen Jetta
By SC Meshell - December 17 - 2:00 amI am currently trying to sell my Jetta now that the transmission has gone out and will cost $3,000 to replace. In addition to the transmission my trunk never closes the first time around, I avoid using it just so that I dont have to attempt closing it 50 times before it clicks. The first day of a new job, the key would not fit in the ignition. I had to have a tow truck come down and the dealership said I might needed to replace the ignition. The interior radio and window buttons have bubbeled and peeled, and as of today five of my six CDs are stuck in the CD player. I am really disapointed and will most likely get a horrible return on what I thought was a great investment.

New Jetta - 2006 Volkswagen Jetta
By deblynn49 - December 12 - 11:23 amI just bought a new Jetta TDI automatic. It only has 300 miles so far but we like it. It is fun to drive, kind of like a European sports car. It has guts, too.

Fun and Practical - 2006 Volkswagen Jetta
By Brian - November 3 - 11:30 amI bought my 2006 Jetta Value Edition as a 2.5 base with manual transmission, no options. After testing Honda, Toyota, and Mazda, VW is the most fun to drive and has the best build quality. Designed for America and built in Mexico, it still maintains its German character and keeps the driver--and driving--at the top of the priority list. There is enough torque to surprise anyone at stoplights and you can push from 70 to 90+ in 5th gear by just giving it a little gas. Downshift to 4th and hold on - all on regular 87 octane and 27 mpg. The interior is simple, functional, and the controls are well-engineered and intuitive. Pax room is generous and its visibility great (for parking). The steering very accurate. At 13,000 miles, I have had no problems.

GLI = FUN - 2006 Volkswagen Jetta
By GuyIncognito - October 29 - 10:03 amI picked up my GLI last week after seriously considering the Accord Coupe V6 6MT and the Altima SER 6-speed. The GLI blows both cars away when it comes to the "fun to drive" factor. Yes, it has its typical VW "quirks", a minor rattle in the dash that will get fixed at its 5,000 mile service, and the stereo system is not terrific, but you dont buy a GLI to listen to music. Punch the acclerator in 3rd gear, listen to the amazing 2.0T spool up and say goodbye to almost anyone in your way. Watch out for the flashing lights though...

Headliner - 2006 Volkswagen Jetta
By Sammers - September 14 - 6:50 pmIm surprised no one else has mentioned, at least not that Ive seen, the headliner falling down. My car, granted has 65,000 miles on it, but the headliner started falling down already. Of course its out of warranty and they wanted to charge me a thousand dollars to fix it. Needless to say I was/am not happy about that. No cars headliner should fall down after 4 years. I know people with cars older than 10 years and their headliners are still in tact. Otherwise the car is pretty decent. I dont think Id be another Volkswagen. I had the same problem with the finish coming off my buttons, luckily that was covered under warranty at the time.

Constant Repairs In A Pretty Package - 2006 Volkswagen Jetta
By tmalone - August 5 - 3:33 pmFor the cost of my 2006 TDI I could and should have bought a lightly used BMW, Acura or Lexus. The amount of time its spent in the shop has more than eclipsed the gas mileage savings Id intended by going diesel. Buyer beware: emissions warnings, glow plug issues, service and recalls await! Regular maintenance oil changes are astronomical $$ and good luck trying to perform any maintenance yourself. The 2006 TDI Jetta is a good-looking, well appointed and fun car to drive. Just make sure you live close to the dealerships service department. Sorry VW, Ill never buy another.

Not so great - 2006 Volkswagen Jetta
By Gretchen - July 17 - 8:36 pmThis car was great for the first 2 years of ownership. Throughout the third year, I have had nothing but problems: 2 oil leaks, 1 coolent leak, brakes had to be replaced, and I have had to have the ignition rebuilt twice. Luckily it is still under warranty but this car has turned into more of a hassle than an enjoyment.
