Ive driven a variety of cars over the past 20 years; from a Super Beetle, to an RX-7, a Sienna Van, and now a Matrix. Who says a 50+ years young woman has to drive a MawMaw car. Due to the high cost of fuel I descided to downsize, but just didnt car for the style of most small cars. I also like to drive Toyotas. I just saw this car for the first time on the lot while getting my Sienna services, and one week later am driving a White XR. I find it has enough zip for the driving I do for work. Have not taken it out on the highway yet. Wished I had researched the car, and done more negotiation with the dealer on the price.

  • Fun, functional and versitile! - 2003 Toyota Matrix

I purchased and XR auto version in February 02 and received it in July 02. I love the car. Its fun to drive, very functional and versitile. Great fuel economy too. I only had problems with the rattling dash and CD player that plays only half my CDs, even after 3 replacements. It is an economy car and not a luxtury car, so its not very quite and the materials are actually much better and others in this cathegory, but not like the camry!

Weve owned the matrix for 5 years now and it has over 100,000 miles. Only routine maintenance. Bought for the interior flexibility since we have 2 dogs. We bought ours used but would have preferred the V6 for a little more pep. We have had a very good experience and plan to drive this car for another 100,000 miles.

This little car has all the benefits of a small, sporty fuel sipper and the hauling capabilities of a minivan. He drives noisy and eats parking bumps (too low). I will keep him until the hybrid is born.

the matrix is a nice car. i got the XRS, automatic. shouldve gone with the 5/6 speed version. The RPM is at 3000 going at 70mph, sucks.. should be less than that if u get the 5/6 speed version. Muffler is kind of noisy.. (this could be a plus or minus depends on you... its the kind of noise u find in a typical fixed civic). The only thing is the RPM @ 70mph is too high... needs lower/higher gear ratios which u should be able to get with a 5/6 speed version, although its a manual

  • Excellent value. - 2003 Toyota Matrix

Overall the car is a good value. Great fuel economy. Handles well, accelerates fine, even with A/T. Lots of room for rear passengers, even deceptively so, at least my kids say so. They are teenagers. Like the fold down seats for cargo. Stereo acceptable, but cds seem to skip, maybe my cds? Can start car without headlights coming on by first engaging emergency brake, then start car. Good for night starting at certain places.

  • The Crazy Car - 2003 Toyota Matrix

This car is a very good and reliable car. Only problem is that is is so low to the ground, which scapes up the bottom bumbers.

  • Incredible Toyota does it again - 2003 Toyota Matrix

Its an optical illusion from the outside-it appears that the seating would be "low" --instead The seats are spring/cushy and sit high.(Before I had a Subaru Outback, the seats sit just as high.) Wonderful ride, handling and Fun to drive. The best part MPG. My first ank of gas was a combinaton of Houston traffic and highway miles 30.8 with my AUTOMATIC

  • Unreliable, poor quality - 2003 Toyota Matrix

I raved about this car when i first got it. But after a transmission failure at 130,000 kms I am very disappointed. Fuel economy has gone down ever since. many rattles in the car. failed caliper. toyota cost over 800 dollars. The premium you pay for a toyota is no longer worth it. Buy north american and save some money as Toyotas quality has gone down hill!

  • Very good 4WD wagon - 2003 Toyota Matrix

Ive had this car for a month now and put 2,000 miles on it. I live above the snow line in the Sierra mountains of California. This is the perfect car for my situation. It has good acceleration, handling and comfort for me and my 2 kids. It does great in snow covered roads without cables and feels secure. I drive to the SF bay area once a week to work and the car does wonderful on the highway averaging 29-34. It also cruises real nice at 80 mph and can easily cruise at higher speeds.
