Ive had my Matrix for almost a year. What an awesome car! Ive packed it with my family of 4, loaded the rear to the ceiling, and stuffed a luggage rack with gear and mountain bikes and then climbed the mountains around Flaming Gorge Utah. It didnt miss a beat! I love the styling. We still have people stop us to talk about the car.

I truely enjoy my Matrix. My VW Passat wagon finally died and was looking for a replacement. A new Passat was out of the question(price). My search took me to Toyota. First impression, wierd. My wife didnt like it. Since the car was for me,that was a good thing. Well,as time goes by the car has grown on her. I tend to go for something different. I like the fact that the roads are not full of them yet. It still attracts attention.

  • Fun, functional and versitile! - 2003 Toyota Matrix

I purchased and XR auto version in February 02 and received it in July 02. I love the car. Its fun to drive, very functional and versitile. Great fuel economy too. I only had problems with the rattling dash and CD player that plays only half my CDs, even after 3 replacements. It is an economy car and not a luxtury car, so its not very quite and the materials are actually much better and others in this cathegory, but not like the camry!

This little car has all the benefits of a small, sporty fuel sipper and the hauling capabilities of a minivan. He drives noisy and eats parking bumps (too low). I will keep him until the hybrid is born.

This car is a very good and reliable car. Only problem is that is is so low to the ground, which scapes up the bottom bumbers.

  • Very good 4WD wagon - 2003 Toyota Matrix

Ive had this car for a month now and put 2,000 miles on it. I live above the snow line in the Sierra mountains of California. This is the perfect car for my situation. It has good acceleration, handling and comfort for me and my 2 kids. It does great in snow covered roads without cables and feels secure. I drive to the SF bay area once a week to work and the car does wonderful on the highway averaging 29-34. It also cruises real nice at 80 mph and can easily cruise at higher speeds.

  • Fun car to drive. - 2003 Toyota Matrix

I like everything about this car but two things: 1. Not enough power. The car does not accelerate fast enough. 2. No covering for the trunk area. I want to put a subwoofer in my car, but I dont want to show it to everyone who walks by my car when I park it on the street.

  • Great car but cant get options we want - 2003 Toyota Matrix

I really liked the Matrix at first. A hatchback with folddown seats, great for hauling bikes, for camping trips & it has good gas mileage (unlike most SUVs), plus potential safety features. However, have been frustrated as dealers say cant get ABS brakes without other option packages such as spoilers & fog lights etc. Also none available with side airbags except for XRS, but then you compromise the good mpg and get the spoilers. Takes 120 days to get custom car. So may buy Standard rather than XR, & forgo safety features so we dont have to get stupid spoilers. May look at the Vibe to see their options (they look better too).

I am probobly one of the few who has put over 30,000 on my XRS. This car has aged like fine wine. After turning 25,000 miles on it, the engine runs smoother, notably quicker acceleration and the shifter is a little less figity. I love the little VVTL-i engine and the versitility. Perfect for me and my yellow lab and a few friends on a weekend camping trip. No issues with the car to date (not bad with a production number of 4,122). Be sure to have a TRD cold -air intake installed.

I went from a Mustang Convertible v8 engine to a Toyota Matrix 4 cylinder. The adjustment was so much easier that I had imagined. I test drove many of the other wagons, including the Rav4, and I felt the handling of the Matrix was superior to the rest. The ride is smooth and quiet. The interior is roomy and comfortable. It can seat 5 easily. It is smooth riding in the back seat.
