A sporty new XRS model debuts boasting a 170-horsepower engine and a sport-tuned suspension. Additionally, all Corollas receive a restyled front fascia and rear taillights. The LE model now has Lexus-like Optitron instrumentation, along with a cloth-trimmed center console and sun visors. Side curtain airbags, stability control and a JBL audio system are all new options.

  • Refined and roomy interior, excellent gas mileage and crash test scores, long list of safety features, spunky XRS model, illustrious reliability record.
Cons:
  • Awkward driver-seat position, bland personality, gets pricey when even basic features are desired, sedan body style only.

  • Wow . . . Corolla! - 2005 Toyota Corolla

We bought our 2005 Corolla in 2007. It was a repo with 13,000 miles on it. It is 2012 now and the car has 160,000 miles on it. The car, knock on wood, has had no problems that I can recall except needing usual oil changes, tires and brakes replaced. We also had the serpentine belt replaced when it needed it at about 100,000 miles. The car gets excellent gas mileage, between 30-35 mpg average. We had a problem with the air conditioner about a year ago and then found out that these cars have a cabin air filter behind the glove box. Cleaned dust and leaves out of filter and air works fine again. Does not burn oil. Just a great car. We love our Corolla and have purchased 2 more since.

I enjoy driving the 2005 Toyota Corolla. It handles very well and gas mileage is good. I originally made a down payment for delivery of a Prius, but after waiting nine months, changed my mind and bought the Corolla. Im glad I did. I had a Cressida, and two Camrys, and I am sold on Toyota automobiles. Never a problem! And, since I live in Southern Florida, I appreciate the cold A/C of this car.

I bought a 2005 CE model with a manual transmission with 7k on the odometer for $10500 OTD. It works well and it does well what its supposed to do. The original tires are not the most confidence inspiring. Will replace with new Falkens for more secure wet and dry traction. Overall, I like the car, very frugal -38 mpg highway commute with AC on. Original stereo is very decent, brakes are good and the seating position is fine for the size of the car. Im 6 ft tall and Im comfortable, but I will need an occasional visit to a chiropractic - not a car for long journeys.

  • Best car I ever had - 2005 Toyota Corolla

I bought my corolla in 04 with only 9miles on it. As of July 2010 i have 242,000+ miles on it and it still drives great. My first clutch lasted up for about 188,000 miles before it was replaced. but its not something to be driven in the snow.

  • Be very careful when buying a corolla - 2005 Toyota Corolla

After owning for 40 days, the fuel pump died in my corolla with 67,000 miles. The big problem is that mine was made in Japan. Because of that the fuel pump will cost over $800. If my corolla had been made in North America the fuel pump would cost $130-250. Why on earth would Toyota want to do that to their customers? Right now my car is still in the shop because I dont know what to do and neither does my mechanic. If the VIN starts with J that means it was made in Japan and you should not buy it!

  • Great all around car - 2005 Toyota Corolla

Great car if your looking for safety, reliability, and comfort. Although edmunds says its a bit overpriced I disagree 100%. The safety, mpg, and overall feel make it well worth your money.

  • just great/fun so far, witt - 2005 Toyota Corolla

its just great so far. has been over a mountain passes in colo. 14 times,so know it will do what is required,it has enough power though it needs second many times at those altitudes,as it is an automatic trans. style is smooth and clean seating is just fine for two and gas mileage is superb. service is spotty at best,so far. it has been in for service three times (5days)for a hole in seat and warped plastic side airbag piller covers. perhaps 05 parts are behind schedule, suggest waiting for warrenty work.

  • An excellent car - 2005 Toyota Corolla

I purchased my Corolla in 2005 and am extremely pleased. Gas mileage is its strongest suit, a consistent 37-40 mpg (41 when I first bought it, and Id probably still be getting that if I changed the air filter more frequently and didnt drive 70-75 mph). Ive had no mechanical problems at all, just the occasional oil change, fluid fill-up. 5sp manual makes it fairly fun to drive and allows me to compensate for the moderately low horsepower (126) when accelerating so I can beat out a lot of faster cars if I need to. Stability does suffer around 75 mph, especially on a windy day. When I change tires, Ill put larger ones on. The interior is extremely roomy and well-designed.

I traded in a 2004 Camry SE V6 for this car. The Camry needed Premium and never got better than 24 MPG even on long highway trips. First, I can say I like getting 37-38 MPG. But when I have to fill up, it take a few extra minutes. If I just fill till it clicks, and hit a few more times, it is still not full. I slowly put usually another 2 gallons or so in it. The stereo even with 6 speakers is pretty weak. I like changing gears. I have had this car 6 months and have about 23,000 miles on it. I just can NOT find a good driving position. I avg about 1000 miles a week. My back kills me some days. It has very little Lumbar support. It is sporty to look at and 2 real adults can fit in the back.

  • Like it...but too noisy - 2005 Toyota Corolla
    By -

Bought the car new. Took until about 18000 miles before it started getting good gas mileage 36-39 mpg mainly highway, so do not get discouraged, it does improve! Am very disappointed in the road noise and uncomfortable seats. The windows do not seal real well. If there is a good cross wind, the side mirrors produce a high- pitched whining noise. Would not recommend this car for highway commuters who spend more than 30 minutes on the interstate one-way. It is very good in the city and the road noise is not really a problem when driving at slower speeds. It is very peppy and fun to drive. Have had absolutely no problems with it.
