This Year's Model Updates:

A sporty new XRS model debuts boasting a 170-horsepower engine and a sport-tuned suspension. Additionally, all Corollas receive a restyled front fascia and rear taillights. The LE model now has Lexus-like Optitron instrumentation, along with a cloth-trimmed center console and sun visors. Side curtain airbags, stability control and a JBL audio system are all new options.

Pros:
  • Refined and roomy interior, excellent gas mileage and crash test scores, long list of safety features, spunky XRS model, illustrious reliability record.
Cons:
  • Awkward driver-seat position, bland personality, gets pricey when even basic features are desired, sedan body style only.

  • Dont waste your money - 2005 Toyota Corolla

This has been my second Toyota and I always have heard good things about the Corolla, but I have to say I was not impressed at all. I hate that it does not have anti-lock breaks. When I bought it they told me it did and then I had to find out through a minor fender bender it didnt. I also had problems with my speakers, windshield and passenger door. It is hard to accelerate and at times it hesitates when turning from one road to another. I hate it and wish I had never gotten rid of my Rav4. I loved my Rav. I would not recommend this car to anyone. I had way too many problems with it for a new car. It should have been perfect.

Ater owning it for less than 2 years, I have had so many problems with my 05 Corolla. I drive it under very normal conditions, no abuse or anything close to it, did all scheduled maintenance. Here are the problems so far: (1). In 6 months, the left mud guard fell off. (2). In 18 months, the fual pump broke, left me in the middle of nowhere on the interstate, after the car was towed and fixed, (3) service light went on about 6 hours after I got my car back from the dealer, another thing broke, and it is back to the dealership. In conclusion, this Corolla is awful!!!

  • OK for rental, would not buy. - 2005 Toyota Corolla

Had this vehicle for three days as a rental in Denver, CO and it suited this purpose quite well. I guess as a commuter or grocery-getter, it would be a reasonable choice. The main problem is that this car is WAY underpowered (getting on the expressway is scarry business and having the pedal to the floor on hills was not uncommon) and not fun to drive at all. Ive driven 1.0L in Europe that performed better. The driving dynamics seem awkward at best, likely due to the vague steering. The passenger comfort is decent for this class of car but overall, this car is mediocre at best. I would consider a Focus instead as its more fun to drive and has the 2.3L.

This car needs to have a smoother ride and the doors need to be easier to maneuver. Too much wind whistle and too much rattle.

  • Be very careful when buying a corolla - 2005 Toyota Corolla

After owning for 40 days, the fuel pump died in my corolla with 67,000 miles. The big problem is that mine was made in Japan. Because of that the fuel pump will cost over $800. If my corolla had been made in North America the fuel pump would cost $130-250. Why on earth would Toyota want to do that to their customers? Right now my car is still in the shop because I dont know what to do and neither does my mechanic. If the VIN starts with J that means it was made in Japan and you should not buy it!

The car is too small to find a comfortable position. Made for very small people, the power is... there isnt any. The seals leak on the window. Very noisy ride. AC cant really keep the car cool enough inside. The sound system is poor quality. Low and hard seats leave a person hurting after a trip around town. Visibility is very poor to the rear of drivers side. Low clearance under car makes a small road hazard a very big problem. Cheap paint, chips easy. Handling on icy roads very good, but low clearance is again a big problem.

  • Not what I expected - 2005 Toyota Corolla

This car is way overrated. The ride is noisy and the alignment do not last. The design of the front windshield design blocks the view when turning. Blind spots are bigger. Just recently had to replace the ECU (computer). The tensioner pulley is making noise. Will be replaced next time it goes in for service. Foot place on left broke off. I will replace it soon before warranty expires. One of the worst vehicles I bought.

  • Not up to my expectation - 2005 Toyota Corolla

This was my first brand new car and it didnt meet my expectations. Three days after I took it home the dash became loose and the side panel where you pull the seat belts out popped out. After three months, the front passenger window had really bad wind noises. I took it in to the dealer and I was told that it was normal. After five months, my brakes already needed replacement. Six months down the road, my front tire needs to be replaced. It was not worth my money to pay for. I see a lot of good reviews about the car, I surely got one that was the worst. I will never buy a Toyota again.

  • Decent small car - 2005 Toyota Corolla

We bought this car as a replacement for a gas guzzler. We have yet to hit 33 mpg in town. My daughters 97 Corolla does better. I am 62" and find the front seats uncomfortable and the back seats impossible. I cant find a comfortable position for long drives because the steering wheel does not telescope. The seats do not offer much lower back support. I had a Civic for a month while the Corolla was getting a new front end. The Civic seats were more comfortable and the cloth was better quality. Civic had more pep but was also much noisier. Both cars suffer from not being set up for taller dirvers.

The car is what you pay for. It is very economical, but not what I expected from a Toyota. If you want a cheap car that you want as a beater this car will do. Dont look for quality when buying this car. This was my first Toyota and I probably won’t go back. However, I would recommend it to others. Toyota wasnt for me.
